wy_kid_wrangler04
I know my plans have changed since the last thread) So here we go! Bible- Who is God (Apologia) Proverbs People Manners Matter by Fred Hartley & Andrea Hartley Smith (not bible- but still important!) We will do these one at a time over the whole year. Math- Horizons 3rd grade and Singapore (she already started horizons- we alternate which one we do after every chapter) English-- R&S 3 Latin- Song School latin with her brother in K and latin for children with her sister in 7th Science- Finish Apologia botany (we are doing over the summer!) Apologia Zoology 1 and 2 (she chose those two!) History- American History BJU Heritage Studies 3&4 (we take 2 weeks per chapter so it will be easy fitting those both in!) World History- SOTW2 with plenty of read alouds. We do SOTW and read alouds as a bedtime thing! (she requested that!) I don't test her in this at this grade level (that starts in the 2nd history cycle here) just going for good exposure at this point :001_smile: Spelling- Continue with Spelling Power and Apples daily spelling drills Reading- Classic Worktexts 3 and Shakespeare Worktexts 3 Geograhy- Trail Guide to US geography (Mon, Wed, and Fri) Health- Exploring Creation with Physiology and Anatomy (Tues and Thrus) Typing- Typing Instructor Deluxe (not pushing this at her age- she requested it so when she has time and wants to) We add art in to history, science, geography and health so we dont do a seperate art program! I am debating something for music, we will see what happens! I will admit, this looks like alot- but it really isnt they way we do it and she is generally done in 4-5 hours with "recess" included (unless she is being a space cadet :001_huh:) Edited July 5, 2010 by wy_kid_wrangler04

These are new to me and look interesting. Thanks. I would love to :D Classic Worktexts is classic literature written in language (though not dumbed down, KWIM) for elementary kids. Each book has vocabulary, and they have reading comprehension activities and other similar activities. I really enjoy them because later when they are in high school they will have a background knowledge in the classics when they study them. The Shakespeare worktexts are the same. Click on the links I provided in my previous post and you can click on any grade and see samples (I think) You can also see what titles come in each grade level! Spock
We just started our second week of school (with a 12th, 5th, and 3rd grader). My 3rd grader: Bible: Old Testament Bible reading M-TH, New Testament Bible reading on F. Monthly memory (3-5 verse passage in English, 1 verse in Spanish). Daily Psalm. Oral narration. possibly some written narration later in the year. Math: Singapore Primary Math 3. Singapore Topical Problem Sums 3 (original edition of Challenging Word Problems, left over from older brothers who weren't allowed to write in the book). Daily math facts drill. English: MCT Island (Grammar, Practice, Sentence, Poetry, and Vocabulary). Alternate copywork and dictation daily. 1-2 periods of 30 minutes reading with oral narration daily. Daily dictionary drill. Sequential Spelling. Spanish: Daily read aloud to me from preschool level Bible story book. Oral narration in Spanish (often in English first, then Spanish). Daily dictation. Weekly listen to read aloud. History: 2-3x week. library books on US history, War of 1812 through around 1900, with a focus on Native Americans because we haven't studied that much yet. biography of Amy Carmichael. chapters from Child's History of the World from the same time period as the US history readings. Geography: 2-3x week, alternating with history. 4 weeks spent coloring maps and learning the names and locations of the continents and oceans, which I just discovered he doesn't know well. Then, one continent per month. (We will pick 2 countries from each continent to read and lapbook about, along with mapwork.) Science: BJU Science 3, 4 days a week. We are using the workbook, but not the tests at this level. He narrates his daily readings orally in addition to answering the questions. He also does the experiments. On Fridays we do nature study instead. Fine Arts: This is covered lightly, together with his 5th grade sister. Basically, they look at the same painting every day for two weeks, trying to find something new each day. Sometimes we talk about it. Sometimes they sketch it from memory after two weeks. We also choose a hymn, folk song, and composer each month, and listen every day. Sometimes we sing along. Beyond that, art supplies are available all the time to use in free time. We also have a keyboard (electronic piano type) they can play on. Their father/oldest brother have 3 guitars and an electric bass between them, but they are mostly not allowed to use those yet.)
