Spock
My daughter will be 9 in August, a few days after we start the new school year. She will be using: Bible: We will read through Exodus, Ruth, John, and Acts together, with oral narration. She will also do one written narration a week, drawing a picture for her written narration because she loves to draw. She will probably draw pictures for some oral narrations also. (She did this year.). We will be using her Sunday School verses for Bible memory (in Spanish and in English). Math: She will be using Singapore PM 3B/4A and (I hope) 4B. We also have CWP 3 to finish, and TPS (the older version of CWP) 4 to do when she finishes. In addition, we have IP 3B, 4A, and 4B to go along with this. Spanish: Rod and Staff Spanish Reading C and D. She will do oral narration and copywork in addition to the readers and workbook. Spanish Sunday School. English: Rod and Staff English 4. Daily dictation. Mad Libs once a week. Oral narration of every school book she reads or listens to. Written narration 4x week from various school books. Daily reading (mostly books from AO 3 or 4). Daily read aloud and poetry. Science: Apologia Zoology 3. Burgess Animal Book. Secret of the Woods. Nature journal. History: Story of the World 3, with Activity Guide (mostly just the coloring pages and maps, maybe a few easy games or crafts if they catch my eye). This Country of Ours, ch. 6-77 (with editing as needed). An Island Story. Various readers (biographies, historical fiction, etc) related to the history (this is separate from the literature she is reading for English class). Some Dover coloring books. Oral and written narration. Geography: begin a notebook of the 50 States of the US. (This will be mostly independent, with her filling in some notebook pages and state maps). Art: 6 works each by Rubens, Copley, and Michelangelo. We spend 2 weeks on each painting/sculpture, looking at it and talking about it daily. On the Friday of the 2nd week, we all sketch it from memory and compare what we remember to the actual work. She also draws a lot in her free time, and has access to various art supplies. Music: A folk song and a hymn for each 4 weeks of school. We usually choose these at the beginning of each month. Basically I just play them once or twice a day. At some point we talk about what the song is about, when or by whom or why it was written, or other relevant information. We also go back and listen to favorites occasionally. I want to get back to having a composer for each term also, and play music by that composer at some point in the day, perhaps during math, grammar, and/or reading. Her father and older brothers play (on guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, and some piano, as well as CD) contemporary Spanish and English Christian music as well as various songs (mostly rock) from 1950-2000.
