  1. Our "co-op" used Holt Algebra 1 and Holt Geometry. We like them both because of Mr. Berger's videos. He is the math teacher for CTY. ;)
  2. Has anyone used this? Are there chapter tests WITH answer keys in the textbook? There is a test booklet with answers. However, the one review says it is too easy. Is that true? Or would that test booklet be a good purchase? We are using Apologia in a co-op. However, the local high school uses the Holt text. We are considering transitioning to the public school. They will need to have samples of work to award credit. I'd love to have tests from their own textbook to give them.
  3. She is kind of fluent. She has a limited vocabulary because we don't speak it at home. So, she doesn't know things like outdoor activities, etc. She probably will know a lot more after camp. She'll have to talk about everything from taking a shower every day, to eating meals, to hiking/canoeing/swimming, etc. This will be her first year at this camp. I'll let you know how it goes. They have an international program at this camp so that they accommodate travelers at customs, provide insurance, etc. The entire camp is French only, so it is an immersion for my dd. International campers only comprise about 25% of the total camper attendance. There will be campers who speak no French. However, they said that the international students are lumped in with the native Canadians. I think she will fare much better since she has had so much French in the past. That would be fun to try. I do know with skype, it is hard to determine who talks when. It's a little like walkie-talkies without pressing a button to talk. LOL! Maybe we can make up a hand signal to show when someone wants to add conversation.
  4. My daughter has been speaking French for years. She will be going to camp for two weeks this August in the Laurentians outside Montreal. She is 13. Maybe your daughter and my daughter can skype each other this year. Cleo, I'll send you starbucks for a skype session!
  5. Is there something like Future City for high school students who cannot find any team mates so needs to be able to enter independently?
  6. I am listening to this as well. :lurk5: :bigear: I told DH last week that for our next few vacations, we were going college shopping instead of "vacationing." But, would you do that during a summer vacation? Or would it be better to go on a regular week during the year? How many can one tour in a since excursion without overloading? Can you take lots of pictures to help you remember? When is a good age to start?
  7. Can I just say, "y'all are awesome!!!!!" :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: You have talked me through so much! Humbled at how much y'all know and how much I still have to learn.
  8. It is changing, but it is still a one-year course. You have to choose, just like with the AP physics C.
  9. Thank you for that. DD will likely have 7th A1, 8th G, 9th A2, 10th pre-calc, 11th AP Calc, 12th ????? Lots of time to figure that one out. I looked at the EPGY website. They have lots of options! I called our local middle school. They have 1 boy taking algebra in 7th grade, and he goes to the high school to take it. :/ She did say more take a1 in 8th, but not that many. I also asked about chemistry for 8th grade. The woman said none take it before high school. DD will take: 7th Int. Phy and Chem, 8th Chem, 9th Bio, 10th AP Chem, 11th AP Phy B, 12th AP Phy C. If she were in our public school, she would get 9th Bio, 10th Chem, 11th Physics, 12 AP science. It confirmed my decision to homeschool!
  10. Thanks for all that, Nan. In 6th grade, I started keeping a report card because summer camps want one when we apply. So, I have that down. I also started keeping annual binders into which I put the graded tests and final graded papers for the year. I didn't think of the TOC and ISBN numbers, so I am grateful to get that suggestion before high school. Another thing to add to my practice run this year. :D I am planning to have DD take a few SAT2s. Math and science for sure. I think math comes after algebra 2, so that will be when dd is 9th grade. So, next year will be a good year for me to research where and how to sign her up.
  11. Thank you for that. Yes, she will still have at least 3 more math credits, including AP Calculus in 11th grade. I may add statistics in 12th grade. Not sure if I have to. Like you said, I will plan that according to college requirements when I get closer to that time.
  12. Yes, I'll do that next time. I should have waited until I finished the thread before quoting anyone. I just downloaded the NCAA's sample transcript, which has a spot for 8th grade. So, I could list French 3 there. In Texas, the TEA website states that math and foreign language can be pulled up from middle school. I'd have to look to see if there are other subjects, but I remember those two for sure. After heavy cutting.... Yes, she will continue French courses in high school. I want her to get the AP out of the way in 9th so that she will have more breathing room for the English, math, and science APs in 10th-11th grade. I was thinking a year of "cultural studies" where she studies French literature, movies and art. Then maybe a year of French history. I am open to these ideas. LOL!
  13. Thanks!!! Apologia Chemistry and Biology anyone?
