PineFarmMom
I'm guessing this is an allergy/congestion issue (because he is congested), but for the past week or so my 3yo ds' face area stinks. At first, I thought it was his breath. I would brush his teeth and bathe him and still the smell was there. I've not encountered this with any of my others. It is so bad right now that my other family members don't like him in their space. Poor boy. I guess I'm calling the doctor today, but I just wanted to ask here and see if anyone else has had this happen and what you did to help it. Nakia
Does he have something stuck in his nose?? That would cause odor and congestion.
Ellie
Does he have something stuck in his nose?? That would cause odor and congestion. That would be my guess, as well.
Jennifer in MI
Yup. My brother smelled really bad for a while. My mom took him to the doctor and there was a PEA stuck up his nose!!! The doctor was able to get it out quite easily. I hope it's something as simple for you!
Alice
Another vote for foreign body in the nose. Recently we had a kid about that age with a googly eye (like for crafts) stuck up there. :)
lynn
I agree with others. He might ahve put somethig up his nose. He may be ablet o blow it out if it's not embedded or to far in there.

Karen in CO
:iagree: We have a friend that had 6 small pieces of paper stuck up there - way up in the sinus cavity.
katemary63
Kids are so weird! I stuck a bead up my nose when I was a child. My parents took my to the Dr. because they couldn't get it out. When I got home, I stuck it right back up there!
4kiddies
My only other thought is a sinus infection?
Impish
I'm going with the something up his nose too. Plug each side of his nose at a time, and get him to blow, HARD. See what happens. If nothing comes out, and the smell continues, I'd get him in to the Drs.
KidsHappen
I agree with everyone else. Foreign body in nose. Every single one of my children stuck M&Ms up their noses. I have no idea why.
specialmama
I agree with everyone else. Foreign body in nose. Every single one of my children stuck M&Ms up their noses. I have no idea why. Wow! M&M's times SIX! That's got to be a world record! :001_smile: I mean, the probability of that happening... man I wish I didn't skip highschool Statistics!
Tutor
I agree with everyone else. Foreign body in nose. Every single one of my children stuck M&Ms up their noses. I have no idea why. LOL! Our oldest stuck an M&M up her nose when she was 5. She came crying into our room in the middle of the night, "Mom! Mom! I'm dying! I've got blue boogers!"
Chris in VA
Dh stuck a bead up his nose when he was about 5. His skin actually grew around it! He had a bad odor, too. Didn't deter his mom. She had 6 more kids...

mcconnellboys
I must concur! Normal congestion generally doesn't cause odor even when there's a lot of infection....
BabyBre
I saw a Dateline or other such program about a woman whose doctors could not figure out what on earth was causing her to have this same problem. It turned out to be a very serious infection (not just a sinus infection, but some sort of nasty infection of the tissue). It had permanent effects for her. When I saw the title of your thread, it reminded me of that case. I hope your doc can figure it out.
mom4him
I agree with the others that it is probably a foreign item(my little guy did it 3 times!) Sinus infect. would be my next guess also. There is a third. Does he show any sign of yeast infection? Is his tongue white, is his cheeks rosy? These can be 'signs of' yeast.
Tree House Academy
I had a very bad smelling sinus infection once, but I think I was the only one who could smell it as no one else complained. I bet money he has something stuck in his nose. :)
BalanceSeeker
...it's just something a kid HAS to experience to know what it feels like. I think ruling out a foreign body is a must!!! Haven't we all done it? I remember sticking a broken-off pencil eraser up my nose at age 3. I just couldn't resist. I remember it like it was yesterday, and the inevitable ER visit that followed it :001_smile: Christa

Laura Corin
He was seven at the time. I thought we had got through the 'up the nose' phase unscathed but he - in this as in many things - proved me wrong in my parenting assumptions. lynn
my dd has done this to many times to count. We did have to go the ent to have a lego extracted it was beyond reach. $50 for 15seconds of work, but there was not way I could bring myself to do what he did.
