Hi Liz.

My day was ok.  I'm very tired.  I got through the basics but I get frustrated at not being able to do more.  And yes, I'm resting.

My pulse has been pretty high tonight - 102.  I'm drinking some magnesium right now.  My bp has been moderately high 163/99 at last reading.  I took it because I was feeling dizzy.  I'm resting now in front of my computer. ;)

I've been having pain tonight in my throat.  Is it my voice box?  Is it my thyroid?  I don't know.  Sometimes I wish I had a doctor on call because I don't always have these symptoms when I'm actually there for an appointment.  Sort of like the washing machine that works when the repairman comes to look at it. . .   I can breathe and I can eat.  That's good!   :D

I have no idea on the sinus infection.  I haven't had any sinus pain for awhile now, though the ENT had still seen signs of infection.  Since he can see in places I can't, I have to take his word for it.

Friday - My husband and I think that my latest antibiotic (number 3 for those of you who are keeping count) has stopped working. I'm puffy, swollen and my sinuses and voice box hurt. I'm also so very tired. I did sleep fairly well last night but despite trying to take a nap today haven't been able to do so.  My bp is holding at moderately high.

Oh my goodness, Jean, how utterly exhausting and discouraging.  Is there any sort of specialist somewhere in the world that might be able to help?  We could start a fund.  Switzerland, maybe.  I am only half joking.

I have had two friends that had chronic health issues that kept getting additional very serious health problems and they both finally went to an amazing infections disease doctor down here (one of the few doctors in the area I could recommend wholeheartedly).  He saved their lives and caught the issues that not one other doctor had.  Both had issues that were very unusual and hard to diagnose but he has had a LOT of experience and is really great at thinking outside the box and digging deep for the answers.  He also saved my life. And he is an incredibly sweet person who genuinely cares about his patients.  If you are interested, I can pass you his information.   He truly is a genus.  Just PM if you think at some point you might consider trying for an opinion from an outside the box thinker that is not in your area.

A couple of people have mentioned infectious disease doctors.  But. . . I'm not infectious, as far as I know.  I was planning on asking about an immunologist on Monday.  Is that the right specialty?

As far as the general chronic illness issues - they are a pain (literally!) but there are so many people who have similar or even worse - many even on this board.  This current acute illness is more worrisome to me because it is acute and we don't seem to be getting a handle on it and it seems to be getting a bit worse as it goes on simply because my body is getting tired out by it all.  I don't think the sinus infection itself is that unusual - just the fact that I'm not getting better with treatment and because it is affecting my blood pressure now.  (Though maybe that is more common than I know.)

Jean,

Infectious Disease doctors don't just see the infectious patients.  They also take the I have been to every doctor and I need help, you are my last hope patients.  One I worked with loved a good puzzle patient.  I would highly recommend you try to get in with one.   I really hope you find someone who figures out what is going on.   :grouphug:

Adult infectious disease specialists are physicians who have completed an internal medicine residency and then done an additional two (or sometimes three) years of fellowship training concentrated on infections.   Some have special interests in a particular bacteria (ie. TB) or virus (HIV is a good example) but many do garden variety ID and are quite adept at working up prolonged fevers, infections that aren't responding to treatment, and immunocompromised patients among other things.
