merry gardens
My 7 year old shared at lunch the reason why we homeschool: otherwise we'd be bored until it's tv time. (tv is restricted in our house)
Guest inoubliable
My kids will tell you it's because I need a cover for watching Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson. That, and someone needs to fetch my bonbons from time to time.
elegantlion
My ds will tell you it's because we like to sleep in and he gets to eat in class.
quark
My ds will tell you it's because we like to sleep in and he gets to eat in class. This is us too! And I can get all dreamy-eyed over mathematicians and physicists without inviting suspicion and feel better about my books budget! dbmamaz
hmm, asked my teen . . . 'because we both had trouble in school'. not nearly as entertaining.

JessReplanted
We homeschool: DD6 - "because it's good." DS10 - "because you love us." DD5 - "because it's good to learn."
Mommy22alyns
Because we don't want to wake up early and catch the bus. Because we want to be done with school before the bus comes back around. Because we get to wear PJs all day. I also get "because you love us." ;)
myfatherslily
My 7 year old shared at lunch the reason why we homeschool: otherwise we'd be bored until it's tv time. Tarreymere
I had to poll the kids. Nine year old dd: "We homeschool so we can have time to socialize." :confused1: Um, not sure what to say to that.
Aspasia
Dd5: "Because it makes me smart." But why don't I send you to public school? "Because it's boring." I may have mentioned that they sit at their desks almost all day. The threat.
DragonFaerie
So after DS finally rolled out of bed at 9:30 this morning, I asked him why we homeschool. This is what he said. "It's a lot more fun and because I can get done faster because it doesn't take as long to line up and walk to every place and waiting for somebody to explain stuff to other kids. And I get to watch TV during breakfast and lunch." Obviously we've talked about how he can get his work done much faster because in public school there's a lot of lost time. And we wouldn't want to miss out on Dinosaur Train, either. :D
Outdoorsy Type
10yo - because it's cheaper than sending us to a private school, and you didn't want to spend much money. ( must have overheard me talking about the high cost of a local private school the other day) 9yo - you didn't want us to be bullied. ( somewhat true)
coralloyd
Dd10-"Because, the school doesn't teach right. Oh, wait that might offend someone." Um_2_4
I polled the oldest 2 and got an unanimous "because you love us and want us to be smart"
ChristusG
I just asked DD8. At first she looked at me like I was crazy. Then she replied with "because you don't want us to go to school." So I said "but why?" Then she said "so that you can see us." True....I'd miss them if they were gone so much. So that is part of the reason. I asked DD6 why we homeschool....she said "I don't know" about five times. And then said "because the teachers don't teach us about Jesus." Smart girl! beaners
Oh dear. I asked my 5 year old. She said, "Because I can't go to a school." (As if there's some reason she's banned? Ha!) "Okay honey, but why can't you go?" "You know, so I can see Daddy on his days off when he's home." She's on the money there. Somehow that was followed by another comment from her. "I know more about fossils, and you know more about vacuuming." Uh, really little girl? I'll admit I'm the world's worst housekeeper, so I must not have much going for me! windmillmarie
My neighbors are a lovely longtime homeschooling family and one of them told me they homeschool "so mommy can sleep in and stay in her pajamas all day." Now obviously, I know the family and the mom and know that's not reality, but it was hilarious to see her say that.

Sisyphus
A long time ago, the kids were like 6 and 9 or so, and had well child checkups, back to back, so they were in there together with the dr. He asked about school, and when they replied they were home schooled, he asked what they were learning, and they went ON and ON about learning to laundry. Like for 5 minutes, I swear. We had just that day had a "laundry lesson" because I figured it was time they could help out more at home- and that's what stuck in the days lessons. Laundry. So if you ask Dr. Whateverhisnamewas, my kids homeschool to do laundry.
PuddleJumper1
DD says "because schools have yucky food like mashed potatoes." My daughter thought the food looked HORRIBLE during her few months in ps. Her reasons for wanting to come back home to homeschool were more to do with working on her own schedule and interests and not dealing with the drama but she had a lot to say about the food too. LOL! I can just imagine what both the olders would have said our reasons were when they were homeschooling elementary.

shinyhappypeople
9 yo DD: "Because public school is stupid." 8 yo DD: "Because we get more education and I would have never met [bFF]" (her BFF is homeschooled) 9 yo DD: "AND public school is STUPID." Yeah, clearly she had a rough year in PS.
bluemongoose
DD 8: Probably because it is better for me because if I was put in PS everything would be too easy for me. DS 6: Because we don't want to get up very early and also you can run out of energy easily at PS. DS 4: I don't know...because we don't go in the school bus. Jeannie in NJ
my ds who was in public school for 5th-7th said that he homeschools now "Because the teachers were mean" which was actually true and my dd who was in public for only 9th grade said "because the entire day was a wasted day in public school, all we did was watch movies"
Mommy22alyns
Because regular school takes 8 hours. And it's boring. (NO, I have not poisoned their minds, just pointed out when the bus arrives.) So you can be with us.
Mandylubug
Ds10 : because when I am in a classroom with friends, I can't focus on my math. (In summary, he is spot on) Ds9 : because we get to be a family in the mornings since Daddy works in the evenings (again another very valid reason) Dd 7: because you love us too much. Dd7: because school was hard and I didn't know what to do and the teachers never helped me learn ( we came in at the end of the year from out of state. The girls were definitely neglected and was never even assessed for their level. Indeed it was an issue) Over all I think mine understand that homeschooling is the healthy and best option for our fAmily. I was impressed with their answers. myfunnybunch
I asked my boys why we homeschool. Ds12: So that I will learn to diagram sentences. :p (Goofball.) And so I have time for piano. Ds10: I dunno. But I don't want to go to school. There's homework and only 15 minutes for recess. Ds8: So I can be with you all day, Mom. :001_wub:
