What's your favorite chick flick?

Recommended Posts

Well, I was going to say:

Bridget Jones's Diary

or

The Pained Veil

but neither of those may be quite right in this case.

Chicago, maybe?

So, I was sitting here racking my brain... and this is what I thought of: I remember seeing a movie w/ a gal pal (friend since high school). This was a long time ago. The movie? Total Recall (Ah-nold & Sharon Stone). There's a scene with a fight between 2 women. My friend is thinking the fight is totally cool & she said that; at the same time, I was saying what a cool suit one of them was wearing in that scene. ROFL! So, maybe Total Recall could be considered a chick flick. ;)

There are a few chick flicks we let our teenagers see - While You Were Sleeping and My Big, Fat Greek Wedding with a little bit of fast forwarding and Ever After as is.

And all the Austen movies are good.

My favorite chick flicks are just too racy to share with teenagers, I think.

I have no idea what a 17 year old would like, but my favorite chick flicks are:

13 Going on 30

The Other Bolelyn Girl

Just Like Heaven

Practical Magic

Because I Said So

Bridget Jones (I actually prefer The Edge of Reason to the original)

Kate and Leopold

I recently rented 27 Dresses, and while it would never go on my all-time favorite list, it's fairly recent and decently good.

My absolute favorite of all time is The 10th Kingdom, but it was a miniseries, so it's about 100 million hours long. Every few years my husband and I spend a weekend watching it.

:iagree:

My teen is now into reading English Literature. She reads the book, we discuss it and then enjoy a movie night together;).

"Pride and Prejudice"---very true to the book, plus a great introduction to the literature, if they've never read it.

Are there any other chicks out there who typically dislike the chick flick film genre?
:seeya: Me, me, me!

There are a very few I like, though I'm not sure about where they are on the chick flickness meter.

Before Sunrise and Before Sunset

Dogfight (the one with River Phoenix)

Ladyhawke (though I loathe the soundtrack)

Truly, Madly, Deeply

Say Anything

Typically? Yes, absolutely. There are a few I love, but generally I avoid "chick flick" and "romantic comedy" threads, because the vast majority of them just make me cringe.

I love the old classics for Mom & Daughter movie night with my 17 year old!

We watched "Gone With the Wind" this weekend!

We've also enjoyed "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Steel Magnolias", and "Casablanca".

She was rolling on the floor watching "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", but that's not exactly a "chick flick"! :D

Well, spill. :)

I'll keep the list short... These are just a few of ones I like.

Amelie (of course), A Slipping Down Life, The Big Easy, Cashback, Chocolat, Croupier, Kinky Boots, Waking Ned Devine, Save Grace, Lars and the Real Girl. Memento, Priscilla Queen of the Desert. All my dd12 has seen, but we are not the typical WTM family... warning, many have adult content.

I'm very curious to see my kids' reaction to Sid and Nancy in another 10ish years. It will seem like ancient history to them.

Oooh... Sid and Nancy.... there's a love story, and it's a musical to boot!

Oh, and I loved Croupier.

Yes, Bridget Jones's Diary is my favorite chick flick. However too much adult content, so I'd say the new Pride and Prejudice or Steel Magnolias.

Mine already think anything passed 1990 is ancient history! Oh and speaking of Sid and Nancy, I totally forgot two great German ones! In July and Run Lola Run. Too many movies, too little time. :tongue_smilie:

Usually what I consider to be a "chick" flick (at least for me) others would not.

Just to clarify: I am not necessarily looking for some cheesy romantic flick but was wondering if anybody had seen anything they thought "WOW, I would recommend this one"...and since there will be only girls, I mentioned chick flick. I personally prefer a good mystery. Any suggestions there? New or older?

I have 3 younger sisters. Our mom is a huge action movie fan. Her favorite movie is The Terminator. My dad is now extremely confused as to what consitutes a chick flick. He calls movies like Boondock Saints or The 13th Warrior chick flicks.

Roflol... If I were to name *my* favorite "chick flicks", they'd be things like Braveheart and Henry V and Batman Begins and Casino Royale and 3:10 to Yuma... There are a few of the more "traditional" chick flicks that I like -- Pride and Prejudice (though I'm a rebel and much as I love Colin Firth, I prefer the newer theatrical release P&P), Love Actually, Bride and Prejudice (it just makes me happy!), Shooting Fish...

Is this a sad movie? I try not to watch movies where someone dies. Unless it has a happy ending, and then I might...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I cried my EYES out...through most of the movie. The dying happens at the beginning but it ends up happy (as it can).
