  1. If you had trouble ordering, you may want to check your bank account. I just got a message saying that due to technical issues during the Dollar Deals sale, some orders were charged more than once. Even though they said that the problem had been corrected, I do not see a refund in my account yet. The customer service rep I talked to couldn't help me, so I am waiting to hear from someone who can. I am really glad I didn't have a huge order since they charged me 5 times for 1 order. :glare:
  2. Our homeschool group has been using Google Groups for a few years now. We have liked it very well. We require everyone in the group to have a gmail address to make access to the google calendar and docs easier for everyone.
  3. I voted no bikini. They are not modest enough. I cringe when I see babies and little girls wearing them. I dont think it is cute at all. I'm not totally opposed to tankinis, but have seen too many that ride up every time the kid jumps into the water. I like the idea simply because it makes going to the restroom easier. I would love it if I could find a tankini top paired with board shorts for myself or my dd.
  4. This is what happened with my now 8 yo DS. He was extremely gassy and had green, frothy poop. I cut dairy from my diet and he was much improved. When he was older, I added it back thinking that it would be okay. He didn't have stomach issues then, but developed terrible eczema on his face. Unfortunately, I didn't associate this with the dairy until he had an allergic reaction when eating mac and cheese. I cut out dairy again and the eczema went away. He is still allergic to milk along with several other foods, but he is otherwise a healthy boy.
  5. Our group switched to Google Groups a couple of years ago. We use Google Calendar and Google docs to communicate with each other as well. We really like it.
  6. We love these videos too. There is also a great website called Jelly Telly that has more videos you can watch for free. Some of the clips are from WITB, but they also have episodes from other programs like The Fantastic World and Adventures in Odyssey. There are games on the site also.
  7. That sounds good! Maybe one day next month....:)
  8. I bet I know which Goodwill you went to. I saw some Longaberger baskets there once (not in great shape either). The smallest one which also happened to be in the worst shape was $25. The others were much higher in price. I only go in there for clothes anymore and only on Monday when clothes are half price. It upsets me most that this is in a basically rural community where people shop thrift stores because they can't afford to buy new. There is another thrift store in that town that has much better prices across the board.
  9. I always steam our cabbage. I didn't know I even liked cabbage until I tried it this way. My whole family loves it (that is really saying something). I do add a little salt and a little bit of sugar. It is so yummy.
  10. I've always washed mine. I hardly ever buy new. I don't dust as often as I should, but haven't had any problem just throwing them in with the towels. They aren't quite as fluffy as when they are new, but they work just the same.
  11. Our first GPS was Ethel. We had to get a new one and didn't like the female voice on it. We changed to the male voice and called him James (as in "Home, James").
  12. Thank you for sharing! I have been disappointed with RS4K Chemistry this year, but we are almost through. I was looking for something else to fill out our year in science. I think this will be just what we need. :001_smile:
  13. One thing I do is say in a normal tone of voice, "If you can hear my voice, clap once." I repeat at the same tone using different actions until I have everyone's attention. If I have trouble getting anyone to hear me, I do the action also. HTH
  14. Here is my list. Thanks to those who shared their lists. 15. How did you use it? Do you read through the chapter with the students and do the activities in the student portion together? Did they like the games and songs? What age range would you recommend? I would love to hear your experience with this curriculum in a co-op setting. The class begins in January, but I would like to get most of my planning done early. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
  16. Here you go. 4 cups coconut milk (full fat) (cream of coconut will not work) 3/4 cup granulated sugar pinch of salt 1 TBSP vanilla extract Stir the coconut milk and sugar together until the sugar is dissolved. Add the salt and vanilla and freeze in an electric or hand operated ice cream freezer. I usually at least double the recipe for this so that my ice cream maker is as full as possible. Enjoy!
  17. We have tried the coconut milk ice cream also, but it is so expensive. I found a great recipe that uses just coconut milk, sugar, and vanilla. It turns out nice every time. I freeze it in small containers to take with us whenever we go to a birthday party or somewhere there will be ice cream for everyone else. He loves it. I try to make as much as my ice cream freezer will hold and we have coconut milk ice cream that will last us quite a while since he is the only one who eats it. :001_smile:
  18. We have been dealing with multiple allergies for my ds for 6 years now. As much as possible, I have tried to make dishes for him that at least looked similar to what we were having. If the dish we had contained noodles and tomatoes, then his had safe noodles and tomatoes. Sometimes, I make two separate (but similar dishes). Sometimes I pull his servings out before I add the allergen food to our portion (with stir fry, I take his out before I add the egg). If we have pizza, I make a pizza with a crust that is safe for him. At first, I think I used just a safe bread as the crust. Since he is allergic to milk, I tried a vegan rice cheese. He really didn't care for it. At this point, he is able to have wheat again, but still no dairy. He prefers pizza crust with sauce and nothing else. Occasionally, I can put some meat and veggies on as toppings, but most of the time he eats it plain. I also try to use a chunky sauce with veggies hidden in it. As long as he has his pizza, he does not feel like he is missing out. It isn't that much more work, especially if we are doing homemade pizza anyway. Hang in there. :grouphug: Since she is young, it is much easier than it could be if she were older. My ds now understands that certain foods could make him sick and he would rather do without than try something that could hurt him, no matter how good everyone else says it is.
  19. We do Life of Fred on Fridays. So far, this has worked well for us. We use Saxon for our main math curriculum.
  20. I second St. George Island. We went there last year for a couple of days with other families from our homeschool group. It was the best time I've ever had at the beach. My family likes to visit Mexico Beach as well. It has been fairly quiet when we've been there (just for the day). Have fun!
  21. I was disappointed also. I went to the leader's forum on Thursday and was more disappointed with it than anything. There were almost no sessions that related to leadership or leading a homeschool group. The workshops there were all either about patriotism or parenting, both topics that were better suited for slots on Friday and Saturday. I did fill out the survey to let them know what I thought. When I got the convention catalog, I initially did not see many workshops that looked interesting. I did go to a few and some were very good. There was one in particular that I enjoyed on how the brain learns best, but it was not in the catalog. I found out later that the person who gave the talk had given another talk the day before and I missed it. I did go to the Gravitas workshop and it was about the curriculum. There was a speaker change at the last minute. It wasn't terribly interesting, but I'm glad I went because I found out about some new products that they have to go along with the books. There have been a lot of changes in the FPEA this past year and the board of directors put on the convention because they no longer have an executive director. Some directors and staff stepped down this past year, so that was a difficulty as well. The best part of the convention was the hotel. The Gaylord is much more family friendly than the other hotel. The hotel made changes and accommodations with homeschool families in mind.
  22. I'm going, but I don't any answers to your questions. I am most looking forward to fellowship with the other homeschool moms traveling with me. I always come home feeling refreshed.
  23. I am one of the leaders of our homeschool group in Calhoun County. We are a very active group. PM me and I'll send you a link to our website. I would be happy to talk to you about FL homeschool law if you would like. If you move to Marianna, I can give you info on their homeschool group as well. When will you be moving? May I ask what brings you this way? It seems rare for people to move to Calhoun County. Emily
