  1. :grouphug: Hugs to you sweet momma that I treasure her experience and opinions! Hope you and DS10 are in Savannah or getting close to it soon with a glass of wine in your near future! Toast!
  2. We have not used Tablet Class but at that price I think we will. What course are you looking for? I know a couple of boardies that I value their opinions highly have been quite happy with Tablet Class. My plan is to use the Jurgensen text with it for Geometry.
  3. I have heard of MatLab but don't really know what it is. Can any one shed some light. And at what age range would it be go for someone who is thinking CS or engineering? D12 has been attending http://www.math.ttu.edu/texprep/ this summer and has a great time. It was a gentle introduction into engineering. She found that she likes logic.
  4. I find the sample annoying. It seems to waste a lot of time. I know it is just the generic sample. I hope the actual courses are not this chatty with non essential stuff. The topic looks great, hope to use in in the future.
  5. D12 was obsessed with Percy Jackson, so Black Ships Before Troy felt very familiar to her. I read her an except of Butler and one from Fagle. She liked the Butler one but she did not care for Fagles. We need some experience with poetry.
  6. We are not accustomed to any poetry. so I think I will look for the Butler translation. Thank YOu. I also really like the idea of audiobooks!
  7. I am ok, but due to my foolish impulsiveness and anxiety not as well as I should be. I have a paid for 40 y/o home with no updates that I lived in for 12 years. I bought it and paid it of in 7 years. I thought I wanted to build a house in my dream neighborhood so I did. Huge mistake. I went from living a completely debt free life to one with a large house payment. I put 1/3 down payment on the new build. I still own my old house. I added my parents to the deed (for homesteading) and now they live there. I am very happy about that. I am paying extra on the new house payment but the taxes and HOA fees are high. I totaled my paid for 8 year old Honda and had to buy a new one. So I have a car payment for another 20 months. I have no money saved for my kid's college. I would sale this house but I would lose my shirt. So I am trying not to think about it. If I can pay it off within 6 years. They I can pay monthly for me kid's college. I am too scared to really spend money these days. I do have a 6-9 month emergency fund. I don't live paycheck to paycheck but I worry about money all the time.
  8. D12 read and enjoyed Black Ships Before Troy. Is there another retelling of The Iliad that goes into more depth.
  9. My neighbor's kid is a freshman EE student at TAMU next month. We live in Lubbock.. It seems to make more financial sense for D12 to attend Texas Tech so she may live at home and hopefully graduate debt free. I struggle with TAMU and certain debt/ better job prospects or TTU and most likely debt free/ not as good job prospects. D12 will likely end up in EE, CS, CE or ME.
  10. I grew up in Dallas/Ft Worth (North Texas), Amarillo is in the Pan Handle, I now live in Lubbock, (West Texas) but El Paso is Far West Texas. And yea, I think it is funny that San Antonio is considered South Texas. I was born in Port Lavaca, now that is South Texas.
  11. D12 is 2/3 through Foerster Alg 1. We have the Math without Borders Videos. David Chandler's videos are excellent. EDTA. D12 rarely uses the videos, she says the text explains it so well. I can not praise this program enough. My daughter is really clicking with it. I love the amount of problems. She does only the odd and all word problems. Also there is an excellent solution manual from Addison-Wesley. D12 checks her own work with the solutions manual. Have you looked at tabletclass? I know there is a video solutions. I am leaning towards TabletClass combo with Jurgensen for geometry. We will be staying with Foerster for Alg II for sure.
  12. I too will be probably using Tabletclass for geometry and probably using Jurgenson with it. I wish I knew when the next sale is also. Kid is doing Foerster Alg I and really clicking and cruising through it so far.
  13. I paid 609 also for expo 1 but in the payment plan. I missed the early registration discount. If WWSI works out then we will take advantage of the discount next year for WWSII.
  14. I paid 609 also for expo 1 but in the payment plan. I missed the early registration discount. If WWSI works out then we will take advantage of the discount next year for WWSII.
  15. After a bout with insomnia I must trudge to work, butt dragging. D12 to be dropped of at day engineering camp at local university. Have a great day.
  16. I am not a home schooler. I was feeling like the public school education my child was getting was deficient but did not know what to do about. I started lurking on CC and found me way over here. This is where I was meant to be. I would have never even heard about the different Algebra programs. I learned of Foerester on this sight and what an incredible fit for my D12 it has been. She is going to try the WWS I that I also learned from this site. This site is a wealth of information. I very so lucky to have stumbled on it.
  17. Harry Potter is our all time favorite Percy Jackson is the 2nd fav, and Warrier is her 3rd all time fav. She read To Kill Mockingbird, Fahrenheit 451 at my urging. She read Half Bad, Wild Child, Steadfast, Spellcaster Sorceress all of her choosing. She used to love reading but not so much anymore.....very sad. The only reason she reads at all as she has "technology" free time so she reads.
  18. I work in geriatrics. I take care of elderly Veterans. This disease is soo prevalent. It is such a strain on the families. My prayers are with you, with all of us that are touched by this terrible disease.
  19. D12 is not girlie and has shown no interest in make up, fashion or hairstyles. My D12 has always been "young" for her age, I prefer it like that.
  20. I work 40 hours a week with pretty awesome benefits and my work drive is 11 mins from my door to work. Yep, it is a govt job and I would not trade it for the world. It keeps my "single mom of 12 y/o" life manageable.
  21. Does anyone know the differences. I have read some reviews on Duke Tip Geometry but nothing on JHU CTY. They both use Jurgensen, JHU CTY shows a Thinkwell sample and Geogebra sample. They are both self paced. Have not found about grading yet. I am feeling some low level anxiety over finding the right fit. Algebra I is locked up tight with an awesome fit for D12 with Foerster. She is cruising through and has no struggles. She very, very rarely gets a problem wrong as it is usually little error not an error us not understanding concept. A live online course is not an option.
  22. Has anyone ever used REA Problem Solver to supplement math text? Wondering if it would be a good fit to supplement Tablet Class geometry.
