  1. I would like to know about WTMA's online SAT prep.
  2. My heart is so happy for you and your sweet family! God Bless!
  3. I live in Lubbock. I think it is a nice city. Gets colder and more snow in the winter than Lubbock. it is greener than Lubbock. What do you want to know? My boss lives and works out of Amarillo. I can ask her.
  4. I have heard several boardies really like Tablet Class. One did Algebra I on it and the other is doing geometry on it.
  5. Bumping. Just for a comment. All middle schools and high schools in our school district are Title 1. We have no choice. I definitely see what dmmelter is talking about.
  6. This is the way I have always done math in my head and always assumed it was because I was too dumb to do 387-190=387. I never new this was mental math......well good to know I am not as dumb as I think.
  7. Following...... My kid is taking a logic course (not for credit) at her engineering camp. IT is her favorite course. I was thinking down the road we mind look more into this. She is on chapter 8 of Foerster Alg 1 and watches the MWB sometimes at my urging but usually not. I have been grappling with the geometry conundrum for a while. As I do not have the ability to teach her, and I have loaded her up with grammar, WWSI class and spelling. So I was thinking of doing a get it done kinda geometry and then adding logic later. I don't know what to do!
  8. My I interrupt for a moment.... My DD is 1/2 white (mom) and 1/2 Indian (Dad is from India). What would you put down on forms? . I usually just check both boxes of White and Asian.
  9. I can only add our experience with Foerster I but we have never seen LOF. D12 is working (chpter 8) her way through Foerster I with MWB videos. Prior to Foerster I textbook she did the (Prentice Hall Texas Middle School book) She is a public school kid. She has not had any problems with the Foerster text as of yet. She likes how visually uncluttered it is. The first 4 chapters of Foerster were a review. she did not start really learning new concepts until the 5th chapter. So I would say the spiral middle school text prepared her well for it.
  10. I just got the WWSI student workbook in the mail. WOW it is very detailed. I showed it to my D12 (who will be in 7th grade). Her eyes were huge. It looks a bit daunting. However, I love how detailed it is. My D12 does very well with structure and details. I think it will be a good fit. She will be in the WWS I Delayed course this fall. Eager to the growth in her writing skill. She is in public school.
  11. Creekland I go to both college confidential and here. College confidential is where I learned about this board. I only wish I could homeschool D12 how always been in public school and thrives with all the social interaction. I love following you on both boards.
  12. How do I check the selectivity rating against other ABET schools. For us, it will come down to where she receives the most automatic (non competitive) merit money and that will probably not line up with the most selectivity. I am specifically looking at UT Dallas, Texas Tech and UA-Huntsville. Also, does ABET matter with computer science?
  13. Listening........ I registered D12 for the WWSI class in the fall. She will be starting 7th grade public school. I am anxious to see how much work it will be. I would love it she could do WWS I in 7th and WW2 in 8th. I think by the time she is in 9th grade the public school work load will prevent any further writing classes.
  14. Wildiris posted about Kelly Gallagher's " Article of the Week". We are gonna give it a try, but slow it down to one article every 2 weeks. Thank you guys!
  15. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I love this site, thank you for sharing it!
  16. Well she does not like to read nonfiction al all. The most she will read is historic fiction mostly in World War II. Please understand I am not upset at all with her or her performance. I do understand she is a bit above Level III. I just want to help with nonfiction reading and comprehensive. By after schooling a full school year of math, her math skills improved very much and she only missed one math question. So I was wanting some middle school nonfiction articles to read together and I can ask her questions. Thank you Wildiris, I really like the pace of one article a week. We will give it a shot.
  17. Look up PREP-USA My D12 is doing the Lubbock-Prep right now. TexPrep is all over Texas. This is a 6.5 week day camp put on by the math dept of universities and jr colleges. Camp is Mon-Fri 8am to 2pm from 2pm to 3pm is optional UIL Number Sense My D12 is in TEXPREP 1 and having a lot of fun in a no stress/no competitive way. She is making new friends and working on group projects. And it is only 10.00!!!!
  18. (HUGS) You are in my thoughts!
  19. For Algebra I: look at Foerster Algebra I. It is loaded with high quality word problems.
  20. D12's STAAR Report came in. 6th grade is tested on reading and math. She did fine in math missing one question. However in reading: she missed 4 questions all in nonfiction reading analysis. Any suggestions what we can do to shore up this weakness. She will be taking WWSI in the fall. She enjoys reading dystopia type fiction and very little outside that genre.
  21. D12 is registered for the WWS I Delayed course and I see this is with Kayla. If this course works out well, then I would like D12 to take WWS II Delayed class the following year while she is in 8th grade public school. I would assume the delayed courses would not be workshop style. I don't see how that would work.
  22. Where can I find these lectures? I would really like to listen as well.
