  1. sAT and SATII math allow CAS. She is in public school and they use Nspire in school. Her school allows CAS. Our goal is National Merit and PSAT does allow CAS. So I don't think she will be taking the ACT at all. But I am wondering what function the CAS would work in learning Foerster Alg II as she "afterschools " Foerster Alg I was a perfect fit for her and I hope this will continue with Alg II. I
  2. I have ordered the TI Inspire CX CAS graphing calulator today. Plan is for daughter to start Foerster Alg II this summer. I am guessing that one does not use the CAS option while learing but can use it to check answers. Is that correct? I have never used a graphing calculator before. Thank you.
  3. Following.......I have an online friend who swears by ALEKS. And her kids received NMF. But I have not tried the sample yet. Curious
  4. Did ya'll do the odds of every question and single word problems? I am sorry but I don't understand " odds of drill". My 7th grader has been doing odds of every problem and all word problems. She will be starting Alg II in the fall and wondering do we still do all odds and every word. I have heard the Alg II/Trig book has many more problems (I have not seen it) Thank you for your time.
  5. I have heard it is a great program. But I have never seen it. My friend who kid got NMF in high stat state, used this on her kid.
  6. Can you say why you don't want to use MWB? D12 has been using Foerster Alg 1 and we have MWB but she has not watched more 2-3 videos as she has not needed the instruction. She has understood the book. I am planning on using Foerster Alg 2 in the fall while she is taking geometry in public school 8th grade. I want to spend 2 years 8th and 9th going over the Foerster Alg II book. I am planning on using MWB. We "after school" and I don't know what else would work for out after school hours for teaching. I assume ALg II will be quite a bit harder and she will need instruction and it sure can not come from me. So I am all ears too!
  7. I have no college savings for my only child age 12.5. I am working hard on paying my mortage off and fingers crossed, should be paid off by the time she graduates from high school. I will then pay form my income towards any college cost that (hopefully merit) does not cover. if I pay my home off then I will be able to contribute appox 18-20 per year. Also have 20,000 in a CD for a college car or to go towards cost. If not enough merit money comes in (will have too high EFC) then daughter can live at home and attend Texas Tech. If that happens I should be able to cover the cost of tution/fees books. What I will not sacrifice : I am turning 50 this year and I max contribute to retirement including the catch up, I will not pull out equity from my home. I will not draw from my emergency savings plan. I am single and I am trying very hard to make my future secure. I believe my daughter can bloom wherever she is planted and state schools are perfectly fine for us.
  8. My personal situation: I lived 5 hours away from my family for the past almost 20 years. I had a home (modest) I had bought and paid off. I held on to the home and offered if my parents wanted to move in there they could. They moved in, I have added them to the deed so they could get the head of household deduction and over 65 cap on school taxes. I do not charge them any rent. They take great care of the home and it is theirs till they die then it reverts back to me. They pay the property taxes and home owners' insurance. And now they only live 3.5 miles away instead of 350miles. Win-Win for all!
  9. Can MCT CE 1&II be used indepently by a 13 y/o child? D12 is currently working on Wordly Wise 3000 on 7th grade level and having no problems at all or compliants (that means she likes it). I was thinking of doing CE 1&II when she finishes 7th grade level Wordy Wise. I am hoping to prepare her to start reading English classics. I love how Wordly Wise is done independently (so does she) as D12 does not like guidance from me much. Can she work through MCT CE by without much help from me?
  10. What kind of schools require all SAT/ACT scores. We are only aiming for state schools. My kid took Duke Tip SAT in Oct as a 7th grader and she too tired out. But is was very good for her to see what to expect. She enjoyed taking high stakes test with nothing on the line......If that makes any sense.
  11. My reluctant English/writer girl is working through Wordly Wise 3000 and is on grade level. She used to love reading in elementary school but now as a 7th grader to get her to read is like pulling teeth.
  12. We had the same problem last summer when D12 took an extended break from any Algebra. Just circle back around. We are too using Foerster Alg I and plan to use his Algebra II, but I will keep working in review. I really think d12 will be prepared well with Foerster.
  13. D12 is taking WWS1 currently (delayed) she loves Ms. Myers.
  14. The Center for Lit middle school lit class sounds really like it would help my reluctant English/writing D12. Do they read a book a month and then do discussion over the book. This would be for a public school child that could do it "after school". She is currently taking WWS I "delayed class" and doing well with time management and public school work. Thank you Would start this class after WWS I is complete. So more than likely in the summer or fall.
  15. My daughter took the Duke Tip SAT completely cold. She thought is was very hard. Hopefully that will be a motivating factor for PSAT 8/9 in the fall. I am hopping to see if some light prep will yield if she does have potentional for NMF as it is very important to us as we are chasing Auto Merit money based on test scores, not competitive merit.
  16. D12 is taking WWSI with WTMA and I too and shocked at the lack of writing. She is making great grades but she too spends minimal time on weekly assignments. Yes, it is only 1/2 through.
  17. Lost Math Without Borders Algebra I thumb drive during our move and my computer crashed and did not have it backed up. D12 is on chapter 10.8 and rarely uses the videos but asked to watch one tonight. Does any one have a Math Without Borders Algebra I disc/thumbdrive I could purchase? I have looked in the classifieds already
  18. I don't live a theater that is showing it also. DVR is set!!!! Can't wait to drool!!!! Cant watch it live as it is Bowl season.
  19. D12 is already at a -8.00 and -7.75 and must get her eyes checked every 6 months until she stops growing. Her Dr. says the same thing, Growth spurts worsen vision.
  20. I just want to say I have lived in Texas all my life and lead and was raised completely secular life. We use "Come to Jesus Meeting" all the time where I am from.
  21. D12.5 is still growing. Her shoe size is somewhere between 3. and 4. She has not reached 5 foot in height. No menses yet. She is still growing but she will remain petite.
