  1. Glued to this one. Thank You Kathy in Richmond, I went to the tutorial site and think that will be very helpful. We will be starting Foerster's Algebra I and MWB after Spring Break. Butterfly how much time is your son spending on it each daily/week. What are your plans for geometry after your DS completes Algebra I? I am following behind you.
  2. My best friend is a teacher in a Texas public school elementary. I applaud all you teachers. I wish you a wonderful career.
  3. I worked as a bedside RN in an Surgical ICU for 8 years. I loved it, but it was exhausting, back breaking work. This is the reason I went to graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner, where the work is not nearly as physical demanding. Case managers require RN experience but sit behind desk all day.
  4. I have been glued to this thread, boy oh boy can I relate. My own 11 y/o daughter is very compliant for what I require. She is starting to buck just a tad with eye rolling and sighs occasionally. I have answered this by increasing her "dead head" downtime spent watching anime and Youtube. She is very passive with some Executive dysfunction. I often joke that I will have to go to college with her. I currently am pushing and prodding her to advance in math by a year (she in 6th grade public school). My other child would have told me to go jump in a lake.
  5. What a timely post!!!! I just bought MWB Algebra I, Foerster and solutions manual for this coming Spring. I have been also trying to find a geometry (totally self directed program) as well. I am glad I found your review of the MWB geometry. I was worried about it. Please give me your review of MWB Algebra I program your daughter recently completed. How long did it take, was it tedious? How long were the study sessions and did David Chandler's lessons fit the test book. Please let me know what you decide on geometry. I think our daughter's are a lot alike with math. :hurray:
  6. Can you recommend a program for geometry? I'll give the Algebra I a chance since I already paid for it. I will post my review upon completion.
  7. Lubbock, TX Home of Texas Tech Grew up in Dallas metro but moved here for school at age 31, never left. Love the slow moving life here.
  8. I have purchased the Foerster Algebra I text and solution manual along with Math Without Borders Flash drive. Planning for DD 12 will start this spring. I am wondering about the geometry and or algebra program from MWB. Can anyone comment? I will add, 1) I have no algebra or geometry personal experience 2) This is a supplement to the algebra and geometry she will take in public school. Thank You
  9. I have had 2 copper T IUD and now the Mirena for the past 5 years, it is due to be removed soon. I am 48 and don't need it anymore. I had more spotting with the mirena than the Coppper Ts but I loved the IUD form of birth control and that was the only type I have ever used. I never had any problems in the 25 years I had them.
  10. How do I find Math Circles and math club type organizations in my hometown? I have tried googling this to no avail. I have an 11 y/o daughter that attends public school. She has expressed some interest in this.
  11. Hello All, I am brand new to the forum and I am learning so much from you wonderful educators. My Dd is in 6th grade and is currently in preAP 6th grade math in an all girls' public middle school. She is going to Mathnasium right now for grade acceleration. She has taken the 7th grade credit by exam math A exam (pending result) and now needs to prepare for 7th grade math B exam. I just ordered the AoPS Prealgebra book and solution book. I am wanting to stop Mathnasium because it is very expensive. I am hoping she and I can work on this together. I am excited and want to give it a shot. She loves Mathnasium and I fear she will not like the frustration that comes with stretching her brain. (I know I don't do well with frustration).
