I can counsel my children a lot...the words come out of my mouth at appropriate times over a period of many years. How much learning and internalizing goes on though? My kids continue to struggle with anxiety and negative self-talk and it's not because they've never been informed of techniques to combat those feelings/issues.

For context, this is what my hubby told me (he works in financial research). Right now, the US stock market is down a little less than 20% from it's recent historic high (in February). I'm don't think that's true. Even if you started a new high deductible health plan on Dec 1, you can open an HSA at that time and fund it completely. From the IRS: "Last-month rule. Under the last-month rule, if you are an eligible individual on the first day of the last month of your tax year (December 1 for most taxpayers), you are considered an eligible individual for the entire year. You are treated as having the same HDHP coverage for the entire year as you had on the first day of the last month, if you didn’t otherwise have coverage."

HSA funds grow tax free and you pay no penalties or income tax as long as you use the funds for eligible health expenses.

Wait, I don't think you can reimburse yourself for an expense incurred before you opened the HSA. So if you had a procedure two months ago but only opened an HSA this month, you can't use HSA funds to pay off that expense.

Yes, I agree. Unlike other retailers that regularly have discounts of 40-50% off, LL Bean doesn't run deep sales all the time. I think 8 or 9 years ago LL Bean had a 30% off coupon but I don't think I've seen one since--25% off is a good deal.

If you base it on our experience, it may not save you anything except the hassle of negotiating. When we bought our van 10 yrs ago, we got a better deal (than Costco) by emailing a bunch of dealerships and asking for their best price for what we wanted. Also, a couple of months ago, I got a quote from a HVAC company that was set up inside Costco and it was more expensive, by far, compared to quotes we got from unaffiliated companies.
