I'm not seeing a new thread, so I'll start.

I was looking forward to starting Adriene's 30 Days of Yoga this morning, anticipating a nice long session for a Saturday. Well, it's 30 days of yoga and January has 31 days, so it really starts tomorrow! Today's is just a 6 min intro. So I repeated the New Beginnings one I did during the week, and it was pretty short. The rest of my exercise today will be getting this house in shape--take down Christmas, clean everything, get ready for the tough work weeks again. Starting my healthy eating goals too (just trying to get back to tracking and hitting my protein, fiber, sat fat, calorie, and fruits/veggies goals). I stepped on the scale but will use Monday as my official weigh in day. And frankly, today's weight was rather scary--2 pounds more than yesterday. I don't think it will be that bad on Monday. I was up until 2:25 waiting for my kid to get home from her NYE party. And not enough water either.

Thanks for starting the thread.

My goals for the month - build up  rowing to 30 minutes, then increase intensity. Adriene January programme but with flexibility. Pj sun salutations every day. Maybe some wild swimming once I finish my university module?

Today - pj sun salutations,  walk with family and dog, 12 minute rowing, 20 minute yoga.

Yeah, I like the idea of doing each day's yoga after work, but I know in reality that I will have trouble if she posts a longer session midweek. 20-30 min I can probably fit in. 45-50 would be a lot harder, especially if I'm swamped with work. Last year I completed all 30 days but out of order and I took January and February to do it.

I also like the idea of rowing. I don't think we have room for a rowing machine in the house; I should try one in the neighborhood workout room just to see if I would really like it or not. Good luck with that goal.

I've been remembering over the last couple of days that I used to set myself goals around the beginning of each January. I haven't managed to muster the emotional energy to think about that recently, though. And I can't decide whether I think it's a good idea for me.

For now, I'm going to stick with completing the usual 500K of walking for this season (manageable because this time it's the full 10 weeks, instead of the shorter holiday timeframe), keeping up with my 14,000 steps per day and doing at least 20 minutes (aiming for 30 when possible) of additional exercise Monday through Friday.

I'm still on the lookout for some way to add variety to my routine, but, again, that requires emotional energy I can't seem to gather. So, keeping up with the usual it is for now.

That said, I did finish off my reduced mileage goal for the Holiday Hustle yesterday afternoon, then took an additional short walk with my husband in the evening to get a better view of the NYE fireworks from WDW. Bonus to that was that, since we walked back home after midnight, I woke up this morning with a short walk already to my credit.

The dog and I walked just about 4K this morning, and I spent a couple of hours taking down and packing away outdoor holiday decor, which has brought me almost to my step goal for the day. As soon as I finish a late lunch, I'm taking myself to a nearby nature preserve to do my own solo First Day Hike. Probably will head out again with the dog later this evening, just for the sake of maintaining her routine.

Holiday Hustle Challenge Update: 375K completed
Winter Warmup 2022 Challenge: 4.0 of 500K
Daily Walking Streak: 308 Days
South Lake/Lake Apopka Trail: 3 of 25.5 miles

Today I was *lazy*. Last night I slept fitfully until 3 am when DS finally got home from a NYE party and I never recovered despite a short morning nap with the kitten. It was grey and foggy and misty all day—normally my favorite weather to be outside, but today I just didn’t make it out at all. So no walks, which is unusual for me and I’m a bit mad at myself for reading all day.

I did manage to get in 20 minutes of rowing. I’m dreadfully out of practice but I’m looking forward to making myself do it most days of the week. One key for me is having something to watch while I row. Queer Eye seems promising—light and fun but also inspirational.

I’m interested in the yoga challenge—where can I find it?

So much rain today. I just have not been able to pull myself together and get moving. We emptied the basement last week to work on repairs and rehab down there. Stuff everywhere, and my awesome ds constantly under foot. I love having him home, but my spaces and routines are not my own. With my left shoulder/elbow injuries some of my favorite options are not possible and I just don't feel comfortable at the gym with this wretched omicron variant ripping through my mostly-maskless state. I think the plan for tonight is going to be a nice, clean, vegetarian dinner and some PT work this evening. I think I might try to persuade ds and dh to a longer walk altogether tomorrow? We shall see...

Helllllllllllllllooooooooooooo LADIES!

I have not been a member of Well Trained Bodies in several years, but to quote the late and great Robin Williams "I'm back! What year is it?"

I used to be super active in the thread and in real life doing programs like P90X, running races and climbing mountains, but then my body started trying to kill itself in 2018, finally nearly succeeding in 2020. It failed, so yay, and I was diagnosed with Lupus. Recovery has been slow and working out regularly has not been an option but I think we're there so I'm here. Hi. I do have chronic pain and fatigue so I will be spotty. I'm also undisciplined and moody, so there's that too. Ahem.

My dietary style is basically Whole30 and my fitness philosophy is "Variety is the spice of fitness." -Tony Horton

While I have started a mixed martial arts cardio series I did not work out today (January 1st! 😱) because I finished my week on Friday.

See ya Monday! Hopefully.

P. S. If you've been here for a while but have a new name please let me know.

I hope it is okay for me to join in. I generally lurk on this thread and enjoy reading what everyone does for fitness.
I am getting over an illness, not sure if it was Covid or not as I couldn’t get a test. (I am vaccinated and boosted but there are so many breakthrough cases around here right now.)

2021 was the year I was finally able to resume working out on a regular basis. I was so looking forward to my last workout of 2021 (hot yoga, followed by a spin class) and my first workout of 2022 (108 Sun salutations), but I had to cancel out of both due to not feeling well. I did get out today and walk two miles with my family. I hope to do a 75 minute hot yoga class tomorrow.

I didn’t want to “like” your post, but I can so relate to this quoted part. I got sick three years ago and endured a year of invasive tests and many many blood draws. Every specialist I was sent to said that women with autoimmune disorders generally have a rough time through menopause and often get a few more autoimmune disorders during those years. Gee. Thanks. I am still being monitored for lupus, but the final diagnose was young onset Parkinson’s with fibro. The chronic pain and fatigue is miserable. I have to keep a real tight schedule of working out and eating right to stay balanced. Too much or too little, eat the wrong thing, everything goes out of whack. I feel like this is a full time job, just staying upright.

Agree 100%. I'm sorry you're struggling. I am on the upswing. Maybe you can get there when your hormones settle.

Nice to see you @Slache and @GoVanGogh.

I walked to the sea today - about 9.5 miles. It's a route I've posted pictures from before - just extended  - so below is me at the sea. Apart from the walk - I did my pj sun salutations and I hope to do the day 1 Adriene challenge if I manage to submit my essay in time. Eta - essay submitted. Off to yoga and a shower.

I did get in a nice ramble around the trails at a nearby nature preserve yesterday afternoon. I used to take the kids to that park for homeschool nature and science classes when they were little, so it's always kind of a dice roll as to whether those memories will be good for me on any given day. Yesterday, though, it worked out. And the late afternoon light and views were lovely. I walked about 5K.

Then the dog and I logged another 2.25K in the evening, making for a good day, step- and mileage-wise.

We started this morning with the usual 4K around the neighborhood. Not sure what the rest of the day holds, but I will make sure to get my steps and keep up with my mileage goal for the day.

@Slache and @GoVanGogh Welcome! Sorry you are both suffering with physical issues, but hopefully some added support from on-line friends here will be encouraging.

@Laura Corin Wonderful photo! You look so happy being outdoors enjoying the gorgeous scenery!

@Jenny in Florida Your photo made me want to jump into the scene and enjoy the warmth and sunshine. I really miss blue and green things outdoors. Everything seems to be shades of grey here.

I've been battling either covid-booster-shot effects or a cold for the last couple days, and I haven't had much energy and nearly constant head-aches. Dh and I had to cancel our early morning tennis, as dh is feeling even worse than me. I did manage to get out for a long dog walk this afternoon. The temp has dropped from +1C to -18C with windchill. We don't have enough snow to cross-country ski yet, which is a little frustrating.

My healthy eating has plummeted to a constant stream of quick and easy comfort food and loads of clemintine oranges.

@wintermom Sorry you and your husband are under the weather . . . and that the weather is so frigid in your area!

I had a few days right after Christmas when I lived on oatmeal, Kind bars, rice and clementines. Sometimes, it's just what you need to do.

Thanks! It's hard to be self-disciplined eating-wise when you aren't feeling physically or mentally well. I hope you are feeling a little better now.

I shouldn't complain too much about our temps, as my parents and siblings have been freezing at -38C temps in Alberta. Compared to them it's been balmy here. 😉

@Laura Corinlove the pic and your gorgeous skin! Beautiful!

------------

I've been furiously cleaning the house and greatly curtailing my time online. I'm hoping to pop in more next week. As the regulars know I've really slacked on posting at the end of the year. I really didn't feel great, was stressed etc. I had a hard time giving my usual focus to exercise. BUT I kept at it- I exercised 5 days a week except a couple of weeks I took off to deload. My workouts weren't always as intense as I'd like and I had to back down on the weights some days, I didn't walk as much as I'd like and sat on my butt way too much but I kept with regular exercise. I'm calling last year a win, all things considered.

Tomorrow I'm starting Caroline's new program Epic Endgame (4 days of lifting and 1 day of cardio- free on YouTube). I'm feeling better and better after my last med change and feeling hopeful that I can start increasing intensity more and add back in much more walking. For now, I'm setting my walking goal to twice a week. I'm really focusing on eating now, as it was hit the hardest this fall. After lots of tries to gently recorrect I'm putting a lot more intense focus this direction to get back on track.

30 minutes rowing, 2 walks in the neighborhood for around ~4 miles total, >10,000 steps on the day. I’m pretty happy with today's efforts.

I've been embarrassing inactive during covid. Several years ago I hurt my hip in a boot camp class which totally derailed me. I’d been very active until that point, taking Spin class and yoga 3x/week, boot camp 2-3x/week, HIIT classes, hiking/skiing, tons of cycling. And then everything came to a screeching halt after the hip injury. 2+ years of physical therapy and seeing a DO finally reduced the pain, but I still have to be careful or it flares up. Add to that intermittent excruciating hand (and as of last summer, foot) pain especially in the warmer months—and the immense stress of covid— and I’ve really lost my way. This summer I started hiking more and discovered I've lost a lot of confidence in what my body can do, so I’m committed to concentrating on challenging myself again and rediscovering my strength.

Thank you, @Ali in OR for providing this safe, supportive space. I’m looking forward to challenging myself to check in here regularly to help keep myself accountable, and to connect with all the awesome warriors here seeking to do their best in these very un-best times. 🙂

I'm trying to be better in 2022, and so far so good ....

Saturday was mostly spent driving home from another city + unpacking, but I got some exercise doing housework + a bit of late night yoga.

Sunday I started the day doing yoga, again did lots of housework, and walked the pup.  I didn't overeat; I slept through dinner and just had a couple slices of bread and a banana.

Today again I started the day doing yoga, took the pup for a longer walk, and had fruit to start the day.  I hope to do more, but we'll see.  Busy work week ahead.

Back to work today--and a regular schedule.

Started 30 days of yoga last night at 8:30--didn't want to mess up on Day 1! Hopefully I'll be able to get to it earlier most days. 30 min on the treadmill this morning. Got my official starting weight this morning--and I now need to lose 4 pounds instead of 3! But better than the 5 on Saturday...

Yep, I braved the scale this morning, too. I've been trying really, really hard not to let weight be a focus for me, for a variety of reasons. However, I was feeling like I might have gained a bunch (clothes felt tight and weird, etc.), so I figured I should at least know. Turns out I was up only two pounds from the last time I weight a couple of months ago, which, considering we just came through the holidays, I consider not terrible.

Now I just need to figure out how to balance trying to lose weight with not letting myself focus on weight.

Sigh.

Pj sun salutations and easy dog walk. I enjoy the strength that even my fairly low level working out gives me - I picked up compost at the garden centre today,  and it was pretty easy putting the 50 litre bags in the car.

I'm just about to do Adriene day 2. Tomorrow I'll row again.

It's sunny but -17C, so I'll go for a walk when I've built up enough courage and energy. I'm still feeling poorly, with head and body ache.

Our province just announced required on-line elementary and high schools for 2 weeks, and the closures include my indoor tennis. I'm sad but also relieved because it's so confusing trying to figure out when/whethe to test, how long to isolate, etc.

Over the years I've peeked in on these threads and decided the people here were way beyond what I do for exercise. I know, I know, anyone can join regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. And I should know better because as someone who frequents the book a week threads I've often said something similar to those who want to participate there but say they can't read much.

Anyway, I'm going to try and join this year and not worry about my fitness level. Dh is officially retired now as of last Thursday, and while it might impact my schedule it will actually be nice to have someone to walk with. I had been walking 3 miles 2-3 times a week and trying to do a video on the other days.

I signed up for Adriene's 30 days of yoga. I've done many of her videos and like the way she talks you through everything without being condescending or assuming everyone is at the same level. As was mentioned she started it yesterday, so today was Day 2.

New Year's Day was kind of a lazy day but dh and I did our walk on NYE so I'm counting that. We walked again yesterday plus I did the first day of the yoga challenge. Today I just did the yoga video but I too am counting taking Christmas decorations down and putting them away as a fair amount of exercise on top of the yoga video.

30 minutes rowing + neighborhood walk. 8,000 steps, so not quite enough. Will make a better effort for at least 2 walks tomorrow.

I had forgotten how good I feel when I row. I’m really excited to be rediscovering it. It was 51 degrees in our exercise room this morning so it can take a fair bit of motivation to get started, but I’m always glad when I do.

So glad to "see" everyone! It is so much inspiration to see so many different plans and goals.

I finished my workout already 50 min total- upper body strength. Loving the format of this series so far (a whole 2 days in). Longer sets but longer breaks too (60/30). I never could nap yesterday and did not take a walk. I was just too stressed and tired. Today is a new day! Slept pretty well although not quite enough (still too much adrenaline in me couldn't go to sleep for a good while).

Apparently, I spoke too soon on the whole stepping-on-the-scale thing. I know better, but I stepped up again today and saw an additional three pounds.

Unrelated: I was looking at my step count logs for the last few months and noticed that I have been consistently beating my minimum goal by decent amounts, so I went ahead and bumped my daily goal to 15,000 steps. It felt like a great idea at the time . . . until I set out for last night's walk and remembered I needed those "extra" steps. (I made it, though.)

Headed out this morning in chilly-for-Florida weather and wandered a little farther afield than planned because I found a path I didn't recognize and wanted to see where it goes. We ended up with 4.7K, which is a nice start to the day. It did mean that I had to somewhat abbreviate my regular Tuesday exercise at home, but I did almost 15 minutes of strength and stretching.

Regular evening walk later.

Yeah, that's what happened to me Saturday. And they're not jumping off quickly as I expected!

Did Adriene's Day 2 before dinner prep yesterday. This morning I did my bodyweight circuit and then I normally do a short yoga after. I was up a little early, so I managed to fit in Adriene's Day 3. It helps that it was only 24 min. And I cut the plank and crunches from the bodyweight circuit expecting I would get enough of that in the yoga. I am not used to daily yoga and I have some right shoulder soreness. The planks bother it, but I think what caused it was those opening up moves where you're on all fours and one hand stretches up to the sky. I can do that sometimes, but so often that range of motion just isn't there (my arm is more sideways than up), and I think I tried to force it too much one of these sessions.

Howdie, happy 4th day of 2022!

This morning I did yoga first thing again.  Really hope this becomes a habit again.  I can already start to feel a difference even though my daily routine is very short and gentle.

I had to do several errands after dropping the kids off to school, so I took the pup for a shorter walk.

Started my eating with fruit again.  However, I also started eating the candied popcorn we got as a Christmas gift.  It has a ton of sugar (not surprising).  After eating more than I should have, I hid the bin out of view.

Someone offered to sit with the pup today so I could focus more on my work.  This means I am at my "fitdesk," where I don't have to sit on my tailbone.  I can either stand or pedal or balance on the seat someway or other.  Better than just sitting on my butt.

I put on my "posturific brace" after not wearing it for a long time.  (When I dislocated my shoulder a while back it was impossible to use.)  I also hope this becomes a habit.  It does discourage slouching.

As for weight loss, I'm another who does not weigh myself.  But while cleaning out my closet the other day, I found some old belts that used to fit me.  I tried closing them with my present waist, and well, let's just say that was a workout in itself, LOL.  I am thinking maybe trying that every so often to see if I'm making any progress.  I hope it doesn't end up causing the same problems that the scale used to cause.

I don't find that move easy either. And I tend to push things. Thanks for the warning before I do day 3.

Otherwise - pj sun salutations,  dog walk with Husband in chilly sunshine. Maybe some rowing in a minute.

Just when I was starting to feel better... I woke up with a bad sore throat and tested positive for Covid. 😔 The rest of the family tested positive as well, so at least we can all suffer and support each other together. We were all completely heatlhy until we started getting our booster shots. Could have been exposed at the vaccination centre, I guess. Bummer.

My outdoor exercise won't change much, except I'll be walking alone and I won't be pushing myself to do more or be able to think clearly. 😉
