stephanier.1765
I know there has to be a thread about Peter Capaldi's costume but darn if I can find it. Can someone point me in the right direction because I'm dying to know what everyone else thinks about it?

elegantlion
Actually I think it's sassy and sophisticated. I like it.
TrixieB
He's... old. The clothes are cool. But I can't say they make the man!
redsquirrel
He's... old. Over 1,000 now, isn't he?
jrn
I love it!
dbmamaz
I love the shoes. My 10 yo said "he looks rich, old and powerful, strong and fancy, which is awesome!" and my teen said he looks like Dracula A bit of an article; http://www.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2014/01/doctor-whos-day-roundup-doctor-shoe/
Jilly
I like everything but the pants. They bother me so much, not sure why, but they do. I think it is the pleats.
theYoungerMrsWarde
Thing is, the re-booted Doctor is well known for his running. Those are not running shoes.
Jean in Newcastle
I like everything but the pants. They bother me so much, not sure why, but they do. I think it is the pleats. They are sort of jodhpurs- ish.
Word Nerd
I like it. I was very impressed by Capaldi in The Hour (it takes quite an actor to pull my attention away from Ben Whishaw!) and am looking forward to seeing him in the role. In fact, he's the only reason I'm looking forward to the next season of DW, as I'm about ready to give up on the show.
Seasider
Love the jacket with the red lining and the crisp white shirt. I like those shoes. But those trousers....what are they? Pleated pants? Skinny jeans? Jodhpurs in need of actual riding boots? It's like they're having a style world identity crisis. Wait, I know! The Doctor picked those up in the late eighties. Somebody tell him MC Hammer wants his pants back.
Loowit
When I first saw the picture I was thinking that he is trying too hard. The clothes are okay, but I would have liked something a little more casual. I guess I will have to see how it all fits when the season starts. When I showed it to my middle kid he said, "Oh, come on! He looks like the third doctor. Especially his jacket."
dbmamaz
Yeah, a lot of ppl are comparing this pic to Pertwee's look. Same age, I think.
redsquirrel
It is prob a shoutout. Matt Smith was very upfront that he was inspired by the second doctor. Those shoes are Doc Martins, a real statement. And you are right that Docs are not for running. Maybe some butt kicking, lol, but not running. Although Matt Smith seemed to run well in those fancy boots of his. I am wondering if the pants are punk? Punk-ish? The don't bother me or not bother me either way. Tennant was def. inspired by Quadrophenia for his outfit. I know Capaldi was in a punk band.....
elegantlion
The pants look off because they're pleated with skinny legs. Previous eras of pleated pants had straight legs. I notice harem type pants are becoming "trendy" again in women's fashion. Not quite Hammer pants, at least lets hope they don't go that far. The jacket is stunning and I see a new trend with bright linings. I was not initially excited about Capaldi having the part, but the more I read about his personal passion for Doctor Who, I'm excited to see how he makes the part his own. Seasider
I'm thinking those pants would probably look okay if he were standing straight. That pose probably is about the worst for presenting them.
OneStepAtATime
And his outfit may morph a bit along the way so I'm not stressing. Parts I like and parts I don't but who knows what he will look like in them when he is actually in motion as The Doctor?
happi duck
Yay!
Rosie_0801
I think he needs a hat to look like he really means it. Without one it looks a bit like playing dress ups.
Mrs Mungo
If he had a certain type of hat, then he would look a lot like a member of the Knights of Columbus. I am not sold. It needs something...hmm...I don't hate it. Can we get a River Song reaction shot?
Rosie_0801
Well, we've narrowed it down a little. He doesn't need a Knights of Columbus hat to complete his look. A plain old pork pie hat?
VaKim
I just threw out a 20+ year old pair of shoes that looked exactly like those. DH had them from his dress uniform when he was in the army, lol. My girls love that he is an older man. Especially my oldest. Her favorite was Pertwee. Word Nerd
Maybe he could borrow Pharrell's hat.
Cindy in FL.
Definitely not a fez or a Stetson! I think the pants are a boot of a problem, but maybe hey won't bad so bad when he's not posing like that. Pleats are not cool!
jelbe5
I have been excited about this Doctor since his eyes made an appearance in "The Day of the Doctor". I think he is going to be a real bad@$$ - in a good way. This outfit confirms it for me.
dbmamaz
fwiw, many of the older doctors had young male companions to do the running for them. But not Pertwee - he'd been in the brittish version of the green berets or something.
HRAAB
First thing my dd said was that he reminded her a little of John Pertwee which was fine because she liked him. I agree the pants don't seem to fit. Anyway, I'm trying to keep an open mind. I'm starting to feel more excited.
redsquirrel
Ok, so in the article linked the quote from Capaldi says, "Or as Peter put it, when describing the whole ensemble: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.†So, no hat I am afraid, lol. And I think the pants are meant to be streamlined, and any movement is going to come from the jacket. They are wanting to keep a very modern silhouette. I am not saying it works or not. Like I said before I have zero opinion about the pants, lol. I am not one to actually pay much attention to costumes, I know I miss a lot that way
dbmamaz
It will be interesting to see the pants in motion. But really, no, i dont spend a lot of time looking at the pants. But sometimes the overall look strikes me.
Slartibartfast
I think he needs a scarf so I can make one. The other Doctor Who scarf is too long to make many without feeling surly about it. :( I don't care for the pleats. JMHO.
elegantlion
"I wear pleats now, pleats are cool"...although a fez would add a certain something to that outfit. I think a dashing white scarf, maybe a bit shorter than this one, would look good. But that might be too "Sherlocky"
