Ria
"Yeah, there was a sniper and he shot at us....don't worry, we scared him off." Ugh. That was one sentence I could have lived without hearing. I held it together on the phone and then fell apart later. This is just. so. hard.

SonshineLearner
No doubt! My brother took "field trips" and would let us know when he returned. Waiting was always hard; I can't imagine guys being overseas there when there was no real communication possible :( Prayers for a safe, speedy return! elegantlion
:grouphug: I'm sorry. I hear things like that, but it's while my son is playing Call of Duty on xBox. My heart skipped a beat when I read your signature and realized you weren't talking about a game. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

swimmermom3
:grouphug: I am sorry. That truly is something no parent wants to hear. My dd's boyfriend left for Iraq on Friday. I know it is an honorable and good thing that they do, but still... He's not even our son, just a 19 yo young man that we are very fond of. michelle l
My oldest will be a senior at our local ps this fall, and we just got our first call from the Marine recruiter. It really got to me to realize he is at the age where that is a possibility for him. It is very easy for me to say "Thank you for serving", even though I sincerely mean it. It is quite another when I imagine my own child in that situation. Our servicemen and women, and their families, have tremendous courage. Prayers for your son's continued safety. Impish
I think I threw up in my mouth a bit. Fear for you, and your ds. My eldest is in the Navy, and stuff like that haunts my dreams. And my son hasn't even deployed yet! :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Jennifer in MI
It was hard enough hearing stuff like that from my brothers. I simply cannot imagine from one of my own children. :grouphug: And, thank you to your son and family for his service.
