Can you post your 9th graders plans for next year?

Recommended Posts

Hi~

I am new here. We homeschooled about 4 years ago. I need to hs my dd (14) because she has a chronic auto-immune disease....

Here is what I am thinking about for her:

Biology: take at cc, oak meadow bio?? Really struggling with this one. I would like one with labs.

Eng: IEW

Math: Geometry, most likely TT

World History: TOG? MFW?

French: Rosetta stone

Thanks for your help!!!!

Welcome mamananci!

When I'm planning hs schedules, I start with 5 core classes: science, math, history/social studies, English/language arts and foreign language. I then add in the electives and extracurricular that the dc will be doing. Here is what my current 9th grader did this year:*

Math: Geometry using Life of Fred

Science: Chemistry using Apologia

History: Middle Ages using Dorothy Mills' The Middle Ages, Truthquest (though co-op)

English: Rhetoric in the Classical Tradition, The Writer's Workshop, American lit (through co-op) and Rod and Staff Grammar (this summer)

Foreign Language: Latin II through Florida Virtual School

Logic: Traditional Logic I and II

Literature: various selections for middle ages along with a Shakespeare play. Not sure yet what I'll call it on the transcript!

Bible: Proverbs, Covenant and memory work (I add this to our schedule because I need to allot for the time but I haven't yet counted it for credit on our transcript.

Hope that helps!

Lisa

*It's sometimes more helpful for me to see what others have done than what is planned because what is planned on paper in June (for us) doesn't always pan out. ;)

Here's what I have planned with my 9th grade son who will be doing much of his course work with his 10th grade brother.

Math: Finish Art of Problem Solving Geometry; move on to Algebra 2 (probably Art of Problem Solving)

Science: Conceptual Chemistry with me at home. He wants to add in Biology (using ABeka) in our co-op. I'm mulling it over. If anyone is capable of doing both, he is.

History: U.S. History using A Patriots History of America possibly over 2 years

English: Michael Clay Thompson's program (we're working through the Magic Lens and Word within the Word)

Literature: Great Books study (ala my co-op worldviews class)

Electives: ACT Prep (1 semester); Logic; Career Explorations (at co-op)

We will not do foreign language until he can do it through dual enrollment.

This is all highly subject to change. For example, the U.S. History course may or may not pan out. I'm still waiting to see if my friend is going to teach this out of her home, which I possibly can afford, or through a business that offers classes, which I cannot afford. Also, I have a number of english resources but I'm not sure which I'm going to have him use in 9th, or how I'm going to combine them.

Math: Algebra II--Life of Fred

Science: Introduction to Chemestry--NOEO level III

History: U.S. History, part 1 (taught by a friend of mine)

English: Some parts of and/or combinations of: Wordsmith (writing); English Workshop (grammar and writing); Lightning Lit American Early-Mid 19th century (literature); possibly Growing With Grammar 8; possibly Jensen's Format Writing; other American Lit w/ other lit guides; MCT vocabulary

Foreign Language: Latin II (half)--Latin Prep 2/3; French 1--French in Action

Logic: The Argument Builder

Arts: Choir, band (french horn), music theory/composition (all at a co-op); he'll do Atelier Art over the summer with his younger siblings

Plus he's in Scouts, and may do speech/debate club.
