The link for the Master Books is the DVD set only. What you linked from Rainbow Resource description says : "Ask Dr. Callahan Algebra DVD Set w/ Printed Teacher Guide, Tests, Syllabus" The RR resource set is from the original printing of Jacob's Algebra, it was OOP for a while. Now it's been re-released with a new cover and perhaps they are marketing the supplements differently.

We have a family of 7. We live in a hcol area and we have always lived in a 1 bathroom home. SIL even lived here before dd married him. You can absolutely do it. I do wish we had a half bath for guests but its not a necessity.

I have a friend who is looking for some fun history reading for her son. She is asking for a world history book I don't think that she's looking for curriculum but maybe something like Story of the World or horrible histories for high schoolers. Any ideas?

This is where you as the teacher need to adjust the curriculum to suit the needs/level of your child. It is a lot of reading, my children were not great readers so when we had a TOG week like that I would choose to a) cut the reading assignment down and only assign questions that were covered in what I assigned, b) do some of the reading together, c) do the reading over two weeks. Sometimes we just listened to SOTW. TOG will give you all the pages from your book that covers that week's topic, the assignments are not always evenly distributed. TOG is a buffet, so choose what is appropriate and move on to the next topic. Have fun with TOG, enjoy the ancients and do what works and leave the rest behind without guilt. You will cover this time period again so don't worry about gaps. I hope this helps.

I have graduated one dd ,who just got engaged last week, and still have 4 more to go! I have 8 more years of homeschooling left. ETA: Yes, Cami I am tired! I love it. I've taught all five of my children with it and I've never been sorry. I think the best thing about it is it's so simple to use. If I want to add more to it it's easy to get readers or letters to use to suppliment. I don't think teaching reading should be complicated or expensive.

Not exactly a library sale, but a school near me has a annual used book sale fundraiser. This year I found nine volumes ofThe Young Folks' Shelf of Books for $9 and all four of Churchill's History of the English Speaking People for $8.

FIL is in the hospital. All my shopping was done yesterday via Amazon. I was thinking of giving the kids box cutters and letting them open the Amazon boxes!

Most reception halls in my area charge upwards of $70 a plate for weddings. If you want really fancy we are talking $125/ person. I've been shocked elaborate weddings we've attended lately. Most places have a reception coordinator. I would've liked someone that wasn't family to keep things running smoothly at my wedding. We even forgot to sign the marriage certificate and we paid overtime fees for the limos.

The Amish families that I've met in PA ( we buy from Amish farms) all send their children to small Amish schools. Pathway readers and Rod and Staff books are used in many Amush schools. One woman I knew was as much in awe of how I managed to homeschool as I was in awe of how she managed her farm, housework and children.

My father was just diagnosed with Parkinson's too. This thread is scaring me. I'm glad it's here but I'm not ready to face this. MIL is recovering from major cancer surgery and I'm caring for her. It's certainly been a challenging summer.

I have used all three books mentioned. I agree with what everyone said about the fonts in 100EZ lessons. It was confusing and dd had trouble reading it. Phonics Pathways worked well for us and since OPGR was not published yet, it was the best choice at the time. When OPGR was published I began using it and all these many years later, I'm still using it. I am teaching my youngest to read. Here are some of the reasons I like it the best. - It teaches phonics to a 4th grade level. It is a complete and thorough program - Additional readers are not required. There is a story or at least reading practice in each lesson. - It is helpfully scripted for those who have not taught phonics before and the script is easily skipped/scanned by a more confident teacher. - it is easily adapted to different learning styles, and has lots of opportunity to review concepts. The only con is that some of my children didn't like reading from the book. So I adapted my lessons so that they were handwritten or typed out. This was a pro for some kids as we made up our own books, drew pictures, and did copy work from the lessons.

I just discovered chalk markers. I used them to make signs for dd's graduation party. They are not cheap although I just googled and found some way cheaper than what I paid. They wash right off with water. I really like chalkboard better, I may be painting some walls in chalkboard this summer and get rid my dry erase board.

I love these books! I may have to read them again this summer. I keep hoping I've missed a book so I could read another new adventure.

Check your teacher's disk. There is a syllabus that gives you the assignments for each chapter. Dr Callahan gives a sampling of what problems to do, gives guidance on grading and a goof perspective on how to challenge you student.
