We just finished third grade. Dd used:

All About Spelling (finished level 2, completed level 3, started level 4)

Growing With Grammar 4

Supplemental grammar workbooks - Daily Paragraph Editing, Editor in Chief Beginning, and both Punctuation Puzzlers

Writing Tales 1

finished Miquon

Developmental Math Levels 10-12

LoF Fractions

Key to Fractions

SOTW 3 plus a lot of supplementary books on American history

Literature was a list I put together

We did a bit of earth science at the beginning of the year, took a break from science when the baby came, and then used The Elements for chemistry

Near the end of the year she started on MindBenders, did a basic geography workbook, and also did a test prep book for ITBS. We had finished up our history early as well as the scheduled lit list.

This is what I've got so far, for two third graders, six weeks apart in age but very different learners:

Math: MCP 3 for one, Horizons or Saxon 5/4 for the other

Grammar: R&S

Writing: WWE 2 and 3, depending on how they progress

Spelling: R&S or Spelling Workout

Reading: CLE Reading and lots of good books to read

Handwriting: HWT cursive

History: SOTW using either Biblioplan or MFW, still deciding - either way, lots of good historical fiction read-alouds and readers

Science: Either MFW's suggestions or Abeka, lots of nature study

Guitar for one of my guys, weekly gym and swim for both

Several choices, including Bible and science, sort of hinge on my history choice and the jury's still out on that...thanks for helping me think it all through!

Blessings,

Aimee

mom to 6 great kids ages 6-18, schooling k, 2, 2 and 5

* Math: We'll continue with my strange brew of Singapore, BJU, and MEP

* History : Using Core KNowledge books as a guide and doing Early American history and Roman history

* Geography : Focused on thirteen colonies, but also learning the 50 states and the geography of the Roman empire

* Writing : Copywork, dictation and narration from our own sources

* Grammar : GWG4

* Spelling Power

* Literature : We will be doing an in depth study of the Aeneid, and a Shakespeare play, and learning some more poetry.

* Latin : LfC A

* Science is relaxed still here, but we will cover astronomy when its warm, and some physics and mechanics when its cold - using K'nex and the Sonlight experiment kits for this with lots of library books.

*Other.

Art classes at the local art school once a week.

Once a week cottage school enrichment at the ps which cover - Spanish, Science, literature, art, music, and P.E.

I don't assign reading, but she reads an hour or two daily and currently is trying to read all of E. Nesbit's books. She also loves fairy tales and myths from around the world.

Here's what he's done:

*Math--Singapore

*Reading--Finished Phonics Pathways; Pathway readers level 1-3; Good lit from library--he picks some, I pick some

*Writing--Writing With Ease level 2

*Spelling--Explode the Code 5-6

*Grammar--finished FFL 1/2; started GWG 3

*Latin--began Song School Latin w/ little sis

*French--Ecoutez! Parlez! 1

*Science--I failed miserably at doing this this school year. I am hopeful for next, though!

*Geography--Beginning Geography Workbooks from Evan-Moore w/ little sis

*Music--Music Ace 1; Story of the Orchestra (not finished with either)

*Art--we are going to try one of these art videos this summer--the one on Monet

*Memory work--math drill and Developing Linguistice Through Poetry Memorization (I think that's what it's called--it's the IEW program)

We haven't done all of that all the time. Like we didn't do music and geography at the same time, and he alternated French and Latin daily.

English grammar and cursive writing-School of Tomorrow 3rd grade paces

Writing composition-WWE 2 and narrations of history and science

Spelling-Rod and Staff spelling 3

Math-Christian Light Education Lightunits 2nd grade, still working our way up coming from another curriculum.

Bible-Either Bible Study Guide, or Greenleaf's OT history which I already own...can't decide completely, either...I really like the Bible Study Guide, so most likely it will be that...:)

Science and History are my iffy subjects yet...either Abeka, BJU, SOT, SOTW, or Mystory of History which was just given to me...I'm having such a difficult time deciding the direction that I want to go with history, whether traditional or chronological...blah,blah, blah...I just need to make a decision already.

We also do MCP's map book and we have a few drawing books that my son is always working on.

Okay, that's the gist of it...we use other things to enhance what we do, like Tatras Vertical phonics to improve reading and spelling skills, and some other helps and lots of library books.

My poor dd is 6 hours a day at the mercy of our public school system, but here's what we'll fit in in the time I do have her next year for 3rd grade.

Saxon Math

First Language Lessons

Writing With Ease

PS spelling list (or other program - undecided)

Story of the World

Song School Latin

Mindbenders

Typing program (undecided)

There's no more time in the day!

Here's what we are planning to use:

Lively Latin Big Book II

Righstart Math D

First Language Lessons 3

Writing With Ease Level 3

Story of The World 3

All About Spelling Level 4

Spanish for Children

Abeka Cursive handwriting

R.E.A.L. Chemistry

She does competitive gymnastics at least 10 hours a week, and she might play soccer or take swimming classes. So we don't do much with physical education at home besides letting her have time to play on the swingset, ride her bike, hit tennis balls at the courts 2 miles away, etc.

She takes private piano lessons, but we'll probably check out library books for music history and cd's for music appreciation.

In the past we have used Artisitic Pursuits, but I feel that she is ready for something more. So, I'm still looking around for a good drawing program and we will most likely enroll her in classes at the art museum.

We either buy or check out children's novels from the library for reading as we go along. Right now she is reading her fourth book in the Little House series, so she might want to finish those. But, we just sort of choose those as we go along. Ditto for free reading.

I haven't quite decided about literature yet. This year we read D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths and we're finishing up DK's Children's Illustrated Bible. We have D'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths, but I haven't decided whether to use it or not.

We'll probably finish up The Geography Book for geography and just work on memorizing regions of the world. This year we worked on continents. Next year I'd like to start on countries.

This is what I did with my 3rd grader (this would be 2 yrs. ago, as she is going into 5th grade now) and I pretty much used the same thing with my 2 older dd, as well.

Math - Saxon 3 and since we school year-round, we got started on Saxon 54 as soon as 3 was completed

History - SOTW 3 & a Catholic history text for the same time period were the spine, then I followed suggestions from TWTM for supplemental reading.

Science - The Elements (mainly)

MCP Phonics C

MCP Maps, Charts, & Graphs C

Abeka Spelling & Poetry 3

Grammar/Writing - we enroll in Seton Home Study's program for English.

Latin - We had good intentions with PL, but the teacher wasn't on top of it and if I must say, maybe had a negative attitude about doing it, :blushing: so it never really did get accomplished.

Religion

Piano

Tennis

Sheri :)

We're in a bit of disorder. We started in December, so grade-wise, we're everywhere. He is, technically, going into 3rd grade, but we started so many subjects at the first grade level that we're just hoping to be "caught up" by fourth grade.

English:

WWE 2 - 3 (we should be caught up by September)

FLL 2 -3 (same here)

Spelling Workout 3

Reading... We're going to work through my E. B. White books and then go from there

Math:

We're using workbooks right now, but I am really hoping to trip over a hundred or so dollars and be able to get Saxon Math 3

Languages:

Latina Christiana I (we should be done with Prima Latina by mid-summer)

Hey Andrew! Greek 2 (one more week of the alphabet left!)

History:

Sotw 2 (we'll be done with the Ancients this summer)

Science:

Adventures with Atoms and Molecules (Chemistry) and we're memorizing the periodic table.

History: Biblioplan year 2

FIAR - for science, art, and to round out applied math and language arts (I have picked a couple of texts to teach the FIAR science lessons. We're using RS4K Chemistry pre-level 1 and The Story Book of Science)

There are a couple of things my 6th grader is going to do, but I haven't decided yet if my 3rd grader will as well. They are French (Learnables on CD) and typing.

Blessings,

Laura
