  1. It is a constant struggle to get Latin done each day. My boys hate it and honestly, I hate teaching it. I have never enjoyed teaching foreign language so my lack of enthusiasm probably isn't helping the situation. I have no issue with the program we're using; it's a quality program that isn't too dry. I also see the value of Latin but at what point do you decide this isn't a hill worth dying for? Are there any good self-paced computer programs besides Rosetta Stone? My youngest is using Classical Academic Press' new online class but it's for younger students. Should I just transition ov
  2. Do you know anyone in the military? They can purchase tickets on base for significantly cheaper. A friend purchased annual passes for our family so we were able to save $70/ticket.
  3. History has never been my boys favorite subject but they are loving this. They actually ask to do history first. That is all. :D
  4. Costco also just put out their Christmas decorations & wrapping paper. :scared:
  5. Awesome! I'm almost positive I'm going to buy this year but this will give me a chance to check it out a little further. Will the do a group buy this month?
  6. San Diego is a big area so it really depends. Is your husband going to be working in a specific area or city? North San Diego is much different from the city proper or South Bay. That being said, there is a very active homeschooling community throughout San Diego. Can you narrow down the area a little more?
  7. Too many are relying on rote memorization and plugging numbers into formulas with any try understanding of the concepts. They don't understand "why" which really comes back to bite them in advanced math. We've used MUS from the beginning and my oldest is now in Prealgebra. It's a solid program. Fortunately as homeschoolers, we have many solid programs to choose from.
  8. When I asked last year, I was told his lectures aren't recorded. He uses many visual aids so apparently, the audio lectures don't translate we'll without the visuals. Again, so frustrating...
  9. Seriously? No Andrew Kern either?? I saw that MCT wasn't on the schedule so I emailed RFWP. All I received was an email saying that neither he nor they are attending...no explanation. The convention is listed on their Facebook page. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes but I'm upset that I paid $$ to see certain speakers who are no longer attending. I'd see SWB anytime but I've heard all but one of her scheduled lectures. Totally annoying!
  10. What happened?? Michael Clay Thompson was listed as a speaker and RFWP as a vendor but when I checked over the schedule (which just came out), he's not listed. I shot over an email to RFWP who responded that neither he nor they will be attending. He was the main reason I was going to attend. So frustrated...:banghead:

  12. I downloaded Life Science into Dropbox on my Ipad which allows me to print out the activities in the TM. We read directly from the Ipad and only print the activities.
  13. What about potato salad? Traditional hawaiian plates usually include white rice and potato salad.
  14. If a PDF gets downloaded into Notability, are they able to use a stylus and do the work on the iPad itself? I know you can't in IBooks. I have DropBox but I'm not sure if you can do it there either.
  15. Has anyone used this? I'd be very interested in hearing some feedback. I want to use Literary Lessons for LOTR later and thought this study would be a good starting point while my boys are younger. I'm also considering doing it as a coop class.

  17. Herein lies the problem when you compare some math programs...spiral vs. mastery. A mastery program like MUS will not cover the same topics in 3rd grade when compared to 3rd grade CLE. It's comparing apples to oranges and there will be gaps (for a time.) My oldest has just moved into MUS PreAlgebra. He's in 5th grade and has used MUS since the beginning. Now that he's almost at the end of MUS's elementary math cycle, I can do some comparisons. I helped a friend's daughter with her Abeka Math 6 book (6th grade.) My son would have no problem jumping right into that book. I've also com
  18. No. MUS does have a different sequence than other math programs which leads to some of the "falling behind" opinions. Sue in St. Pete has written a very detailed review of MUS on these boards. I would definitely do a search and find it.
  19. Is this still up and running? It looks like most of the information was last updated in 2011. It looks fantastic so I'm hoping they're still around. Our coop wants to do Apologia P.S. next year as well. Oops...I was looking at their old site...O
  20. I've had great success using Phonic Pathways in combination with ETC. PP is my main phonics program with ETC as extra reinforcement.
