My daughter took French 1, 2, & 3 with Madame S. at the Potter's School, but as a high school student. The class, for her, was a typical high school class. Email Madame S. for her advice. I don't know how responsive she would be during the summer, but during the school year, she responded quickly.

I work for a rec. center now, but I so need to bring in more money soon. Years ago, I subbed and enjoyed the experience, but I subbed in a much smaller city. I need flexibility to homeschool, work at the rec. and then a second job. Subbing, in theory, would do nicely since I work evenings & weekends at the rec. Subbing a couple of days each week would help a lot. My daughter can work independently those days. There's such a mixture of kids coming to our rec. centers. Some, probably most, are really good kids but the others give us such a hard time. I had to kick out a large group earlier this week. The summer is always a tough time for disciplinary issues for us. Remembering how bad last summer was with the kids, I'm beginning to rethink subbing. So...is there a bag of tricks experience subs have to help get through the day. I'm thinking of working only in elementary schools at least at first. Where's that middle line between being too lenient and too strict.

Derick Owen's pre-calculus is a really good program, but it didn't work for my daughter. She really disliked the format. It's nice to pay by the month without a contract though. I wish looking back I had found a good online class for her, but that depends on the student of course. The cost over 9 months (the maximum you have to pay for DO) would have been about the same. I didn't know about Math without Borders then. It would have been a much cheaper alternative.

The one semester of TX government seems overkill to me. My daughter finished the course last year and said it could have been covered as a section in the regular government class rather than an entire semester.

My daughter took the general SAT with essay for the first time this morning. She felt confident about most of the sections except the non-calculator one and the essay. With the essay, she wrote 2 1/2 pages but wasn't sure if she was going in the right direction. We'll know in July.
