  1. This weekend, a realtor was walking up to people in Walmart's parking lot about a house she has listed for sale. She talked briefly with me, but since I don't feel comfortable with strangers walking up to me when I'm trying to put my groceries in the truck, I made it clear I wasn't interested. I was polite but firm. Actually, I felt sorry for her. She was dressed professionally with heels on a hot and humid afternoon.
  2. Praying for your brother and all your family. :grouphug: :grouphug:
  3. I registered my daughter at a local Christian school as well with no problems. The public high schools in our area will only test 11th grade homeschool students. My daughter is in 10th grade this year so this is only a practice run. It is frustrating. I wish the PSAT and AP tests were handled the way the SAT is.
  4. Texas is very stict about unexcused absences and tardies. I would check to see what your school district's policy actually is to avoid problems.
  5. Studies come first! Are there any work-study positions on campus that would have flexible hours? I hope she finds something that allows her to work and study.
  6. The owner of these forums has asked that we not post photos unless we have taken them ourselves or are absolutely certain those photos are in the public domain. Celebrity photos are especially not allowed! Let's not create problems for Susan! Please remove any photos that don't adhere to this policy. ETA: This policy is included in the "terms of use" for the forums.
  7. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family.
  8. Congratulations on your granddaughter! Prayers for her continued improvement.
  9. One more is to wear a good hat. My daughter bought a brimmed hat at REI that was treated to reduce the amount of sun exposure. I wore it this spring when I had to attend an all day outside event for work. I was surprised what a difference the hat made in my comfort level. To be fair, it was hot and humid that day but nothing compared to August.
  10. I have the same problem. This year, I've just not gotten out during the day any more than is necessary. There are clothes you can buy at REI and other places that cover and protect from the sun but are still cool, letting air circulate through the material. Some of them would be okay for business casual. Unfortunately, they're expensive. My older daughter bought some last year when she was having problems with both the heat and sunburn. Otherwise, I second the handheld fan mister and ice pack.
  11. I'm trying so hard to be more frugal. We've already cut a lot out of our budget. Today, I sold some books to Half Price Books, got my money and left without buying anything! Not much money for the books, but I put it in the fund we keep at home in case we need cash.
  12. Happy Birthday!!! I hope you day was wonderful.
  13. We really enjoyed the opened ceremonies as well! It was beautifully done. NBC does a horrible job. I wish I felt I could add anything to my budget. If I could, I would pay for TunnelBear or something!
  14. I love Christmas music too! Enjoy your CD.
  15. Buying Landry's generic semesters ahead of time drops the price a lot. That's the only way we can afford the classes.
  16. I'm so sorry! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  17. Welcome to the forums! Since you didn't mention the ages of your children, I can't direct you to a specific area but check ou the various boards for advice and suggestions.
  18. Welcome! There's much collective homeschool wisdom on these forums.
  19. If he's interested in any of the Great Courses, the online streaming service has a couple of philosophy courses. I believe there's still a month's free trial. thegreatcoursesplus.com
