  1. Inappropriate content: No politics. This topic can be discussed in the appropriate private social group.
  2. An IC can offset the part of the SS / medicare tax the employer would otherwise pay as a deduction. It lowers the effective percentage paid.
  3. My boss at work has been wonderful to copy me on critical messages. Many of the job related group messages IMO should have been sent as emails anyway, but my boss is young. She's a decent boss thankfully; she makes a not so great work situation bearable. If and when I find a different job, I'll probably have to change carriers, but for now the cost of Tracfone allows me to provide phones for my daughters and me at a rate I can afford. ETA: If employers want employees to use texting as the principal means of communication, the company should provide cell phones! Not going to happen where I work though.
  4. My daughters and I can't get group messages on our Tracfone phones either. I occasionally get video messages, but never thought they might be group messages. I've never tried to open one before.
  5. I'm so sorry! Continuing to pray for your family.
  6. I'm one of the moderators; no likes for me! I hope Landry Academy was incorporated. Otherwise, Greg Landry could be in serious debt for a long time. I didn't mention how sad I am for Greg Landry. He may have made some bad mistakes or not! Regardless LA was clearly so important to him.
  7. I didn't anticipate how sad I would feel now Landry is officially closing! I've cycled through shock, anger and now a deep sadness. Sadness for all the teachers who were counting on work, for students expecting to begin the spring semester soon, and for us parents who have invested in our children's education. Still praying for all! Next week, I'll be deep in planning classes.
  8. I don't like posting emails, but in this case I am. This just came. Dear Landry Academy Family, (I'm sorry if you receive this more than once) As I mentioned in my last email message earlier this week, we have been struggling to keep Landry Academy alive. After exploring many options that would potentially allow us to keep our doors open, we havereached the point of no longer being able to operate. This is not how we envisioned our dream of Landry Academy ending. It is with much sadness that we close the doors of Landry Academy. We know this places you in a difficult position - we're very sorry. I have been working hard on a solution that I hope you will carefully consider. I have arranged for Veritas Press to work with you directly on special arrangements and pricing for both the spring semester and for the 2017-2018 school year. They have been very understanding of this situation and are willing to give you some credit for our online classes and generic semesters for which you are registered. If you are registered for full year 2016-17 onlineclasses, one semester spring 2017 online classes,or generic online class semesters, we'll send youa separate email message today with details of thearrangement we've made with Veritas Press onlineclasses. It will take some time for us to go through studentand family accounts for intensives, trips, classes, etc. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are not able to issue refunds right now. It will also take time for us to be able to process transcript requests, etc. We are very grateful for you - families who have loved, supported, and encouraged us for years. We know so many of you personally and many of youare like family to us. Thank you for your continued support, patience, and prayers as we work through the details of closing Landry Academy. Greg Greg Landry Founder and Director, Landry Academy
  9. The teacher who posted about Landry closing said the information is from Greg Landry via email. So sad. Part of me is still hopeful!
  10. It's also possible Greg will reorganize the company and reopen under a different name. Unfortunately, reorganization will probably not happen for this semester's classes.
  11. I so hope the information is wrong, but the teacher posted 2 messages. The first mentioned that Landry's email was closed and some possible explanations. HIs second post said that Landry's closing was official, but he has no further information. Hopefully, there will be an official message soon!
  12. In our area, the policy was strictly enforced because teens would show up with an 18 or 19 year old; someone legally an adult, but not really an adult. Several theaters had multiple problems with teen crime and vandalism as well as general teen nonsense. As for the younger than 5, that part surprises me but it would make for a much quieter experience. I'm not sure if the policy is being adhered to now here. My teen daughters haven't been to a movie theater in a long time; I just realized that!
  13. I just saved a print screen of my ledger from Landry's website. It's probably not necessary at all, but I thought I would like a record of all my generic semesters and financial transactions just in case. ETA: My daughters have taken classes at Landry for several years now; I very much want them to continue operation! Praying for wisdom for Greg and for all the teachers affected by this situation.
  14. I'm hoping and praying that at least the year-long classes will continue since the students have committed so much time already. My daughter is in chemistry now, but is registered for a spring elective and an intensive. I would be less stressed teaching an elective unexpectedly compared to finishing up chemistry with its labs.
  15. I received an email from Landry today confirming they have not been able to pay their teachers in full for the past few weeks. In the email, Greg asked that parents refrain from emailing about specific classes until some decisions are made. From the message, I gather more information will be forthcoming later this week. I was so hoping the email would be decisive one way or the other, but I also understand Greg and his staff need time to make decisions. Honestly, it doesn't sound very positive to me, but I'm continuing to pray.
  16. Dallas area. It's 75 degrees and humid. A/C running off and on.
  17. Oh no! I'm so very sorry he's sick. Praying for a quick recovery!
  18. Merry Christmas! I'm the only one awake this morning. I miss the days when my daughters would wake up early morning to open their gifts. Now, as teens, they sleep in as long as they want! At least the cats are up with me!
  19. My daughters have taken several Landry classes over the past 5 years. I have no doubt Greg Landry will do everything possible to continue classes. It's just disconcerting to have so little official information.
  20. After Lanny posted, I realized I did not go to Landry's official Facebook page. The Facebook page I saw is for parents and students. It's there, that some parents are posted concerns about Landry having problems.
  21. Oh wow! I was concerned this summer. Landry has had opportunities for group buys in the past, but the last one seemed different, somehow. I bought a couple generics then anyway. Thankfully, I don't have too many generic semesters sitting in my account, but my daughter is in a year-long class now and is registered for a spring class as well as an intensive. I can find another class for the spring one, but she's half-way through chemistry. I really didn't want to teach chemistry. Landry's Facebook page has similar "rumors." With the holidays, it may be January before we know anything. I'm praying that everything is okay.
  22. Praying for him and for you. :grouphug: :grouphug:
  23. We have Christian Heathcare Ministries. There is some coverage for pre-existing conditions. It's limited for the first year, but increases after that, I believe. Routine prescriptions are not covered, though. Praying you find affordable coverage.
  24. I'm so sorry! Praying for you daughter and the young man's family.
