  1. I am a fairly no nonsense cook. My current stove/oven came with the house when we bought it 20 years ago. It is a convection oven. It has yet to give me an issues and is no noisier than the regular bake option. I wouldn't use the center griddle because I like my electric griddle pan that I can take outside to cook things like bacon and I make pancakes maybe 2x a year. I grill outside because of the smell and grease factor, like the bacon. We don't entertain the way we used to so I don't need the double oven. If I was going to go for a double, because sometimes I do wish I had that extra oven, I would want the double wall oven. I don't like bending to lift out the heavy items.
  2. Since it has been properly refrigerated and doesn't smell bad I would cook it up and eat it.
  3. In my younger days I would force myself to finish a book I hated. I don't remember why I thought I had to finish every book I started. Now, the majority of the time, I will abandon as soon as I am sure I hate it. For book club, I will usually finish it,or at least skim it, so I can talk about it. Unless I really, really, really hate it.
  4. Having been a kid pre-pooper scooper laws it is much nicer not having to navigate dog poop everywhere. I also get where you are coming from in regards to landfills full of plastic bags of poops.
  5. As a kid we threw apple cores out the window and my kids do the same. But only in unpopulated areas. Never someone's lawn. I only wish people extended that same courtesy towards my property.
  6. Dh is making his yummy lasagna. Although more accurately I cooked all the pieces he needed and he assembled. Makes my life easier since there is less mess when I am the sou chef.
  7. I would be surprised. In these parts coffee/tea is included in the dessert portion of the catering. You would have to request that they remove the coffee. I don't drink coffee but I know other people do so I would know to order coffee if it wasn't included. Sounds like the caterer forgot the coffee to me.
  8. Costco is my preferred. BJ's if no Costco. I will not give one thin dime of mine to the Walton family.
  9. I bought them once. Think they are still in my freezer. I will sometimes throw some in dh's smoothie.
  10. I don't think it is as prevalent as it used to be in the younger generation but it is still out there. Especially with the older generation.
  11. Dh and I will be married 25 years this year and I can honestly say I don't always like him. Love, yes, but some days he can be the most irritating person on the face of the planet. Seriously irritating. Like let me start this project that will take 2 hours 15 minutes before we have to leave irritating. Put the empty container back in the fridge irritating. Unable to find the item right in front of him irritating. I can't imagine my life without him but some days I want to hit him upside the head with a can of corn.
  12. My dd(16) said no way. Even glitzed up they look like her brother's shorts. I had some luck buying women's petite sizes for basic shorts when dd was younger.
  13. Dinosaur's Binket. Mostly because of the word Binket. Seriously, it's a blanket. The Disney princess books. If I never have to read Goodnight Gorilla or Eric Carle again I will be happy. Curious George-seriously the man in the yellow hat is a poacher. Books everyone else in this thread hated that we use and love in our house: We all love Love you, forever. I still recite love you forever to my kids when I say goodnight. We are able to have a good laugh over stalker mom. My kids know I will use the keys they give me. I am not climbing through a window. Go Dog Go-opportunity to talk about being happy with your own hat. You don't need some shlubs approval. The Giving Tree-a lesson in how not to be a total selfish ingrate.
  14. Harold and the Purple Crayon The Monster at the End of this Book The Secret Garden The Phantom Tollbooth A Wrinkle in Time High School: Brave New World 1984 The Handmaids Tale
  15. y son had a case of chicken pox a few years after he was vaccinated. It was a mild case. His sister didn't catch them.
  16. Hmm. When they were infants and toddlers they probably had 5 or more becasue accidents happen. Now as teens/young adults-pajama pants and tshirts. Probably 3 pairs of pajama pants each.
  17. I have not seen that horrible image that is now burned into my mind's eye. I don't spend a lot of time where the younguns hang out.
  18. I don't fear getting old. Since I am 50 that is probably a good thing. I do fear losing my health and mental acuity. My grandma is 105 and sharp as a tack. Her body is slowing down. At 98 she had to start using a walker. She says the secret is good genes and my aunt who takes care of her. I think it is better when you are able to live with family then be in a senior home.I am sure there is more I could be doing for my physical health and everyday I strive to make better choices.
  19. According to my daughter I dress like a mom. My uniform this time of year consists of capris, a solid color tank top, summer cardigan/blouse, comfortable sandals/loafers. Sometimes I will shake things up and wear a print. Wear what makes you happy.
  20. Tadpole, Mid-Atlantic but I do know the term pollywog.
  21. I would not forgo the insurance. You never know when a medical emergency will come. An accident, cancer, aneurysm, chronic illness. Not a gamble I would be willing to take.
  22. All of them. That would be my favorite potato dish. Some family favorites: Easy Potato Soup: 1 onion, chopped 2 carrots, chopped 1-2 stalk celery, chopped, leaves included 3-6 cloves of garlic tsp salt Red pepper flakes, to taste 6-8 potatoes, cubed Add everything to pot. Cover with water (or chicken stock) to the top of the potatoes. Bring to a boil and simmer for 25 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Add 1/4 milk or non-dairy milk of choice. Mash soup. Leave some potato chunks. Add salt & pepper to taste (it can take a fair amount of salt). You can add just about anything to this soup. Super forgiving. I've added corn, spinach, tumeric, cayenne pepper, parsley, anything hanging around the vegetable drawer. Mashed with chicken stock instead of sour cream, with lots of garlic.
  23. It's about a 15 minute walk. 20 if you are enjoying a beautiful day.
  24. Yes. My oldest, who just completed his freshman year of college, complained often about the lack of social opportunities and friends who homeschooled high school. My daughter has similar complaints. I was a bit of a trailblazer in my area. Once high school hits a lot of kids go back to school for sports. Or friends. A lot of parents didn't feel up to the challenge and put their kids back in school. Plus, as others have said, if you are on a college track the academic demands take more time.
  25. I haven't seen a slip in the store in decades. I still have mine from a few decades ago and still wear them on occasion. I usually wear slip shorts.
