  1. My 6th grader is really enjoying Runkles. It covers physical geography. He says he feels like he is learning a lot. I like that it is easy to implement. He is also using Mapping the World with Art by Ellen McHenry.
  2. Fort Smith is on the border of Oklahoma. You could look for farm land on the Oklahoma side. Land there is pretty cheap. It's not as pretty as further up north though. I don't really know what it is like to live there so I'm not endorsing it. I can tell you that the Fayetteville area has better a airport than Fort Smith. It also seems prettier and newer further north.
  3. Do you have an LG? We had this problem numerous times with ours. It couldn't be fixed although they did keep trying. When it happened I cooked the stuff that was still cold and then put it in the fridge.
  4. There is also a book for middle school and up. If I remember correctly though, my son found it boring and never got past the first few pages. Maybe he would find the video more interesting. https://www.amazon.com/Beethovens-Hair-Extraordinary-Historical-Scientific/dp/076790351X ETA: I just asked my son about the book. He did enjoy this one. I had it confused with some other book.
  5. Look at separate flights to Puerto Rico and then flying from Puerto Rico to St. Thomas. It might be cheaper. It could also allow you to do both.
  6. Try one way flights. Sometimes one airline is better for getting there and another is better for getting you home. Also try flying into one city and out of another.
  7. Try google flights. There is an option that let's you look at nearby airports. You can also see prices for flights all over Europe at the same time and easily see how changing dates affects price.
  8. I'm not sure which home you should choose. I just wanted to throw out an idea. Could you do a portable induction burner instead of an illegal range in the new construction homes? A couple of those with a large toaster oven could be enough. It depends on what his future cooking needs will be.
  9. I use both programs for one of my kids who needs extra. The biggest change was the amount of problems. It took her weeks to get used to that. I didn't think she would ever stop complaining but eventually she did. It's significantly more problems per lesson. I like that there are more problems and it moves more slowly. I have one that needs that.
  10. I think mine took over 12 months as a 5th grader. That included a several month long moving/summer break. I made him redo several sections and all of the challenge problems for review. He's doing the algebra class online now. I expect it will take a good 12 months again. He'll have a break between the two sections and I'll make him do review. I really like for ability to be strong before moving on. I do that for all of my kids, not just the one that is ahead.
  11. Puerto Rico has history, culture, beaches, and rain forest. It's also possible to get very reasonable flights from the East Coast.
  12. Two of my kids said maybe and one said not right now.
  13. Every once in a while you can find somebody's terrible audience recording on Youtube. It will only be up for a short time though because it is not allowed and they seem to check every few days or so. I haven't looked for a bootleg copy in months. I was able to watch twice this summer.
  14. My 6 year old loves Just Add Magic. You could also look into: Power Rangers H2O: Just Add water Avatar: The Last Airbender
  15. I told my son he might be telling his kids stories about waiting in line to pay when he was little.
  16. If you are talking about the Treat Yourself sale with 500 books, I haven't found a way to sort. I did look through all 500 but I don't recall any juvenile books. There are a few that would be good for tweens and up if you are interested.
  17. My kids didn't like the connectagons which are the cooler blocks you linked. They love magnatiles.
  18. Check this forum for deals https://boardgamegeek.com/forum/10/boardgamegeek/hot-deals It's also a good website for getting game ideas.
  19. I'm almost doing the same. I just haven't been able to fully admit that Singapore is not a good fit for one of my kids. I think Singapore was moving too fast for her. She hated Math Mammoth at first because it was a lot more problems but she is used to it now. She is going back and forth between the two programs.
  20. My son has been using it for a few months. He does it three times per week. My goal is that he can draw each one from memory so he is moving at a glacial pace. I think he is on map 5 or 6. Most of the time is spent practicing prior maps. He has Egypt memorized and maybe Mesopotamia. He has to refer to the book for parts of the other maps. Each time gets better.
  21. Kid's activities are more expensive in a higher COL area. Now you know the bad stuff. What are the good things about the area? Good state universities? Good homeschool opportunities? Great libraries, parks, museums, etc.? It's time to stop focusing solely on the negative.
  22. Costco called me as I was eating the hummus. I felt kind of bad taking it back for the refund because we ate almost all of it.
  23. Would maple glazed pecans be a good substitute? This recipe has maple syrup, salt, and nuts. https://www.google.com/amp/www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/maple-glazed-walnuts-recipe.amp.html?client=ms-opera-mobile&espv=1 If the link doesn't work, it is Ellie Krieger's maple glazed walnuts.
