Farrar
Dh likes to eat the giant Costco sized bag of tortilla chips down to the dregs then dump what's left into the next bag and start anew. Because what are you supposed to do with penny sized bits of tortilla chips? Except, I often then end up in the situation I'm in now, with what amounts to a pretty huge bag of tortilla chip bits. I'm sitting here with some guac munching on them but it's not a particularly satisfying way to eat chips and dip. Anyone have a recipe that actually uses tortilla chip bits? Or maybe crushed tortilla chips? I can't imagine breading anything with them, but maybe there's a casserole they could top?
kiana
I think they'd go really well on top of any casserole with a south-of-the-border flavor -- how about a hot'n'spicy mac and cheese?
Rebel Yell
I pour them into a mesh colander to shake out the excess salt, thenn into a zippy bag and crush them finer. I use them as I would bread crumbs to top Mac-n-n cheese, or any casserole.

Farrar
It seems weird to put it on chicken or mac and cheese... maybe I'm being old fashioned about bread crumbs though... I like the idea of taco salad. Or chicken tortilla soup. Or migas... Maybe I'll turn them into migas tonight and see how that goes... Violet Crown
I mix them with scrambled eggs, cheese, leftover black beans, and some jalapenos or salsa for a quick meal of migas.

skimomma
Taco salad? We use them all the time as "croutons" on salads and in soups. Any soup, really....does not have to be tortilla soup.
Frances
We use them as a topping on taco pizza after it comes out of the oven, along with lettuce and hot sauce.

wendy not in HI
I was listening to a cooking show in NPR on Sunday. They used crushed tortilla chips in chili, for flavor and as a thickener. The chips soak in and disappear into the soup.

Farrar
On top of chili is a great idea. Okay, I think I've got uses for most of this bag... migas for lunch tomorrow and there's a batch of lunch chili in the freezer that we'll have for lunch the following day - topped with lots of tortilla chip bits. And then I've got ideas for the future. I'm totally trying those tex-mex meatballs and that tortilla soup.
MiMi 4under3
I put salsa or guacamole on a fork then scoop up some chip crumbs, and eat it just like that. Sometimes I mix the crumbs with the salsa or guac in a bowl first, then eat with a fork.
Vernal
Theres also a casserole called King Ranch Chicken that has crushed tortilla chips in it that's delicious. I don't have the recipe, but I know it on allrecipes.com.
