I am making jeans this year to see if they will last just a wee bit longer. I got 6 yards of denim at Joanns the other week and now I need to cut it out for my little guys. I hope to get at least 6 pairs of pants out of it, if not more. I really would love to get 12! But I may be dreaming with that one!

Thanks! I took my son to the local store and they happened to have one pair in his size that had been returned (he needs husky, which they don't carry locally). After we confirmed the fit I ordered online, and snagged a Ninjago hoodie that will thrill him as well!

Does anyone else patch jeans when the knees go? Just curious.

I have. I try to catch the jeans before a full hole develops because that can be uncomfortable inside a patch. Then I find a nice piece of study fabric, acceptable all parties, and pin it over the worn area. Then I stitch a continuous series of Z's as wide as the patch from top to bottom. The edges of the patch start to fray right away, but it looks good along with the patching. Generally, by the time the patch has almost frayed away, the jeans are too small.

That is helpful, I'm still working on my techniques for jeans.

Well I have to tell mine not to wear the patched ones out so I guess they don't care. It's hard for me to get my head around throwing away jeans after half a season wear, but I generally have to pay a but more than $6 for jeans and the kids are farm kids.

Mine don't go to waste.  All holed jeans turn into cut off shorts come summer.  The same thing happens to the ones that are too short but still fit at the waist.  I also remember the scratchy patches my mom used to use, so I have never attempted a repair.
