Fenimine modest sundress

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine is frustrated in her efforts to find a fenimine cute modest sundress. Any suggestions? She is thinking this is too much to ask. :)

It depends on her definition of modest, doesn't it? What are her limits on length, colour, cut, sleeves, etc.?

I think this http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=68334&vid=1&pid=839441&scid=839441042

and this http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=68334&vid=1&pid=839442&scid=839442032

are cute and feminine, and modest (because there's next to no chance of cleavage), but they might not fit HER definition of modest, especially if she wants her arms covered. That said, if she DOES want her arms covered, then she's not really looking for a sundress, and will need to broaden her search to other styles. Or, if length is her issue, she could look at some of the maxi styles.

I buy the layer tee on this website: www.shadeclothing.com

and wear it under these dresses: http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1305152605/ref=sr_gnr_fkmr0?ie=UTF8&node=1036592&search-alias=apparel&field-keywords=Allison%20Britney%20Maxi

You can find the dresses at Goodys for less money and in different colors. The fabric is lightweight. I'm prego and living in a hot, humid area, and strive to be modest. It's a challenge!

I was pleased to notice recently that the maxi sundress style is "in" again this year. The ones I saw varied greatly in style at the arms/neckline, but many looked fine for wearing alone fairly modestly, or easy to layer with a tee.

Trouble was, I had a hard time finding the tissue tee's for layering! Can't believe those would be passé, but I am glad that a poster above provided a link.... off to investigate that now...

Modest= what?

How about the one on the homepage of Chadwick's? http://www.chadwicks.com/chadwicks/

No v-neck?

This one from Old Navy is CUTE! I always think of sundresses as having straps and no real sleeves, though: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=68334&vid=1&pid=839441&scid=839441062

This one is nice, not too short and you could put something under the more modest (IMO) v-neckline: http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=1b62fd4&DeptID=70656&CatID=80145&SO

Definitely more modest neckline: http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=1b40173&DeptID=70656&CatID=80145&SO

I got last year's version of this dress on the clearance page in January fdor $30. I wear a tank underneath, but otherwise it covers knees and shoulders. Mine is a nice, bright spring pring.

Lots of cute stuff here at LAnd's end. I love their dresses!

Is she having a problem because of her size or shape? I see tons of pretty sundresses that seem modest enough, especially maxi dresses, but none or very few that would fit me nicely. If it is a sizing issue, it would help to know what the problem is.

Sears had some cute sundresses plus lightweight shrugs a few weeks ago. I picked one up for a baby shower & my SIL's rehearsal dinner. The whole outfit cost me ~$20. They were modest enough for me paired together (skirt hit just below knee length, high neckline, shrug came to just above my elbow) but obviously everyone's definition of "modest" is different.

A good solution to spaghetti-strap dresses is to wear a shrug (little jacket-type thing) or a scarf. You can usually find shrugs near the dresses or scarfs near handbags & belts in department stores. Or, if you are a good knitter/crocheter you may be able to make one yourself.

Similar to the one here

I got this dress at JC Penney a week ago. It looks more pink on my computer screen than it actually is. It's kind of a bright, orange-y salmon. I tried on several before I found one that fit. Many of the V-necks looked nice on the hanger, but gaped too much when actually on. So for me, it wouldn't look modest, but it could on someone who fit it.

I bought a little white short-sleeve bolero sweater to wear with it. It's cute!

OH, and it is NOT that short. I don't know why it's pictured that way. It comes down to my knees. Maybe the top of my knees, but that's as short as it gets.

This is one of the dresses I tried on. I really liked the bolero, but other parts of the dress didn't fit. I'm pretty sure this one was longer than it is pictured here. This is the petite.

That's a similar style to the one I got from Sears only the neckline was higher and it was black floral rather than white & blue. I can't find the one I bought on Sears' website, so maybe it's only available in store.

ETA: I Googled the brand off the tag and still wasn't able to find the particular dress I bought. But Kohls has a whole bunch of similar ones on sale. You'd need to pair them with a shrug as they are strapless or spaghetti-strap.

Oh, then I probably wouldn't refer to it as a sundress because if you're adding sleeves, need a higher neckline, and it has to be lower than the knees, then the sun aspect doesn't really apply, IMO. LOL The best option might be a peasant dress with an appropriate top.

True. That's no longer a sundress in fashion industry terms. If you are just searching for 'sundress' you aren't going to find what you're looking for given your restrictions on design.

The OP's friend needs to be looking for summer-weight dresses, period, not sundresses. Then she'll get some results for all kinds of stuff (including sundresses, but also including longer, more covered dresses) in light weight materials suitable for summer weather.

You might try looking for shirt dresses -- t-shirt dresses, polo shirt dresses, etc. They come in all lengths and will give a lot of coverage.

I bought this in a tall and it goes mid calf on me (5 ft 5). I plan to wear a layering tee or tank under it. I also have a little short sweater that I can wear over it if I don't want to layer under.

WOW! The links are phenomenol, ladies. She should be able to find something.

I'd like to buy something myself. Ha ha. My friend says that sleveless is OK, no spaghetti straps, not too low cut and to the knee, lightweight cotton preferred.
