  1. WOW! The links are phenomenol, ladies. She should be able to find something. I'd like to buy something myself. Ha ha. My friend says that sleveless is OK, no spaghetti straps, not too low cut and to the knee, lightweight cotton preferred. Karen
  2. I will ask her to give me more details. You're right Audrey. I need more info. Knowing makes all the difference...
  3. :( The title is supposed to be spelled feminine.
  4. A friend of mine is frustrated in her efforts to find a feminine cute modest sundress. Any suggestions? She is thinking this is too much to ask. :)
  5. Thanks for this thread. I was wondering why I didn't like the last tub I purchased. I spend a few hours in the gym every week. I'm not eating A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G that doesn't taste divine. I'm not going to be buying what used to be my favorite any longer, Breyer's French Vanilla. I bought some recently and I thought I just didn't enjoy it because I don't eat ice cream that much any longer. Yuck. The CSR told me they added tara gum, a natural flavor, as a stabilizer so the product sticks together. (I wish I had thought to tell him that it was sticking just fine without the tara gum). He kept cutting me off and I kept cutting him off. I told him, "Well, I don't like it and it tastes different now." He stated that it is natural and comes from a tree and has no taste. I answered that it has a taste and I don't like it and I'm not buying it any more. I told him I had friends that have noticed the taste and they dislike it too. I didn't tell him I was talking about virtual friends. :) I'm sure I'll find something else with the help of this thread. I don't have the space for an ice cream maker nor the time but I'll find something with just a few ingredients again. :)
  6. CinD, I just wanted to clarify, my trainer didn't say that metablolism is increased for up to 48 hrs after strength training. She doesn't give me any info like that. I just follow whatever she asks me to do in the gym with the weights and I followed her advice on making changes in my diet. I actually read that info in an article online. I wish I had the link but I didn't save it. The article actually said that metabolism is increased for up to 72 hours and only 12 hrs after cardio training. Thanks for all your info! Karen Karen
  7. Yep. That used to happen to me when I started walking for 30 minutes to one hour every day in 09. It just goes away if you hang in there. Drink plenty of water.
  8. I used Times Tales for both my boys. I think I took a break from Gamma early in the book between lesson 5 and 10 and did Times Tales for two weeks. That way they learn the upper times tables in two weeks and you carry on thru the book.
  9. I read an article on strength training in which the author explained that strength training increases metabolism for up to three days afterward and cardio only increases metabolism for only 12 hours. I was running for six months and then got injured. After PT for six weeks I joined a gym and started strength training seven months ago with a trainer. I transitioned over to the gym because I wanted to prevent any more injuries. I didn't like being on the bench. My body fat decreased from 26% to 13% in just two months. I had to give away all my clothing and buy new stuff. $$$$ I lost inches and my clothing size dropped two sizes in pants and three sizes in dresses and my bra and panty size changed (decreased) as well. I got more fit cardio wise with running but I saw a total change in my body after adding strength training. I only made a couple of minor dietary changes. My trainer recommended that I abstain from carbs after 3 PM or six hours before bedtime. She also asked me to increase my protein intake to at least 25-30 grams of protein per meal. I usually only have about 25 grams. 30 is just too filling most of the time. I don't know if strength training is an option for you. Perhaps you will see more results if you add that. I only lost two pounds but I lost a lot of inches. I had already lost my weight with walking and running though. HTH!
  10. To those who purchased Wordly Wise, did you buy the answer sheet keys? I would be buying for grades 3 & 5. TIA Karen
  11. I just purchased a book called *Making Sunday Special* by Karen Burton Mains. Sorry I haven't read it yet.
  12. I was going to type them out in advance. I'm not sure the eldest one would be able to read his writing if he wrote on the map. I guess I ought to have him do it and see if it is legible or not. I am not testing for locations right now.
  13. I purchased Avery Clear Address Labels for our LG/UG students to label their maps. I'm not sure that's practical. Should I have purchased a different kind of clear label? Return address labels or file folder labels, perhaps? Hmmmm...
  14. Me too! I'm so excited too! I feel like I have been homeschooling all these years without exhaling. Now I can exhale!!! What year are you doing? We're starting with Year Two. I showed my 5th grade ds what he needed to read and accomplish this week. As suggested by Marcia Sommerville in one of the summer webinars for UG students and older I had him write out his own schedule. I didn't think he could do it. I thought he would balk and whine and say he couldn't write small enough. He amazed me and did a great job figuring out what days he would do everything. Just wow! ~Karen~ -Karen
  15. I think this blog post may be helpful to you. http://homeschoolblogger.com/teacupsinthegarden/category/tapestry-of-grace/ -Karen
  16. Never mind. Ha. I made an executive decision.
  17. I would look into Great Books for Boys & Great books for Girls. Both books are written by Kathleen Odean. These books list varied subjects that interest boys and girls in a topical fashion. I borrowed them from our public library and bought the books later on Amazon. ~Karen~
  18. Angela, I loved reading about your daughter. My daughter is five and it sounds like she writes as much as your daughter. Thanks to the posts in this thread, I realize that this is a gift of hers. I'm going to make her a cardstock covered book today with lined and blank paper. She will love that. -Karen
  19. I saw a lady more than 100 pounds overweight in the running store the last time I was there. No one was laughing at her. Most of the staff in running stores are runners. People who are runners love it when anyone begins to run. We know what may be in store for you down the road. Running changes your life. Please don't add a fourth day to your C25K program. You may set yourself up for an injury. Please don't run without running shoes. If you get fitted at a running store you may even be able to purchase a pair that is being discontinued. Shoes that are being discontinued will be on sale. An expensive pair of running shoes is less than the cost of an injury. :) I agree with everyone else. You may have poor posture or not wearing a supportive enough bra. You may also have a weak core. Can you swim on the days or use some weights you're not running? If your core is weak that will help you strengten your core. Be careful on that treadmill. I don't have experience running on one but I think you're not supposed to hold the rails while you run. I would commend the book Courage to Start to you by John Bingham. I'm so proud of you, Julie.
  20. Thanks to everyone again. The swim class is going well. I've lost weight and I bought a new swimsuit a couple of months ago. I thought it fit well. Apparently it it may suffice for sitting by or in the pool. It is no good, however for a person learning to swim. I learned this when I heard my swim teacher say, "Uh oh. Swimsuit malfunction.". She helped me get it back onto my chest and shoulders. Oy vey! Needless to say I went out and purchased a smaller suit tonight. Besides that I'm doing well. I'm not terribly afraid of the water. There's a lot to learn though. My teacher is very kind. She taught my daughter to swim a couple of years ago. She is a mom of nine. Interestingly enough, she's a runner. She has run many marathons and done triathalons. I made the move to learn to swim because I injured a thigh muscle. The daily pain I was having has decreased about 90%. :) I have some*other areas that are just sore. I suppose that's just the gift of using my muscles in a new way.
  21. Now I feel bad after reading this message. My daughter is five. I have a speech evaluation scheduled for her this week. I didn't realize until last week that things were not improving organically and that this was more than I could handle. She has difficulty pronucing her Ks, Gs, words like str in strong and the x in box. Hmmmmm. Karen
  22. I would have sent them an MMS of an iPad as a reply. :) I'm an Apple lover. Did you search for reviews of both? I think people have posted threads here on the WTM boards about the Kindle vs. the Nook. ~Karen~
  23. I'd like to thank each of you for your encouragement. Photo Ninja, thanks for your post. I definitely plan to do whatever I'm asked to do. This is only the second year our center has offered adult lessons. Most of the teen instructors felt too intimidated in past years to teach adults. I'm so grateful that they're offering the lessons. I hope my desperation to get off the bench helps me to learn. The young lady that signed me up to swim told me it would be much harder for me to learn because of my age. I didn't take her opinion to heart though. I'm motivated. I'm a Type Aer and if I don't get active soon I might chew someone's arm off. Joking. :)
