Bedtimes for pre-teens and teens?
HayesW replied to mamakelly's topic in General Education Discussion Board
In my house, all the children go to bed at 8pm. My girls, 11 and 13, read and turn off their own lights when they are finished. 11 year old is usually out by 8:30, and so is my 13 year old. There are nights when someone is reading a very interesting book or just can't sleep. Wake up is t 6:30. -
My 13 year old 8th grader loves them.

I know there have been a couple of recent threads, so I wanted to toss in my two cents! We returned on Wednesday from a trip. The National Aquarium was a waste of money. It was small and dark. The Spy Museum was lots of fun. All the kids enjoyed it. My favorite place was the Newseum. A ticket is expensive, but you can use it for two days. It was 6 floors of amazing. They had exhibits on the Twin Towers, Oklahoma city bombing, the Mob, Pulitzer Prize photos, elections. They had Ted Kazynski's cabin. They had a book of Aristotle's writings from 330 BC. I could have stayed for two whole days. As it was, we stayed for about 5 hours with all six of our kids. Their gift store was really cool.

what do we do? Bullies at the playground
HayesW replied to kfeusse's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Call their parents. Sounds like kids trying to see what they can get away with. My 4 youngest are boys and they sometimes play rougher than other kids. I don't allow it, but I also don't always see it. Call Mom. Talk to her. She may have NO IDEA. -
Nope. That should be plenty!

The thread about the 5 year old who is driving Mom crazy Someone asked,"Does he go out of the way to annoy others?" My 5 year old does this. Is there something I can do to make it stop. He is driving us all insane. He has some ADHD tendencies, and I have ADHD. I have found lots of ways to cope with this, but not the annoying!

Dr Hive . . . exceptional ear pain
HayesW replied to Sweetpeach's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You may have developed a fungal (yeast) infection in your ears. If you used antibiotics, it could have killed the good stuff as well, allowing for yeast to grow. I hope the ENT has answers for you! -
If your BooKs resemble the unabridged OED...

How big? DD and DDD? I ordered one from Land's End. Also, Athleta sells some with bra cups in larger sizes. -
Covering the tummy while nursing
HayesW replied to Moxie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I wore a white tank everywhere! I cut the neckline low enough to nurse in. Belly bands left over from pregnancy work great too. So does a baby sling! -
Over the last few years, I have been learning that I am sort of backwards. For years, I tried to fit God into MY realm of consciousness. I've tried to understand God and Christ and the Spirit in the ways they relate to me. I've made the mistake that the Isrealites and Jews made, I have tried to the physical of God. I can't do it! God Himself is supernatural. He is not constrained by my puny mind or the simplicity of this world like time and space. He sits above the circle of the earth. It has sort of changed how I think about God. There are things that have already happened, but haven't happened yet. I can't wrap my mind around it, but it's true. Just a perspective issue. I need to focus on the spiritual more and not the physical.

Ok, I read your replies, so I will try again. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. The ability of the Bible is not the physical. It is the spiritual. It pierces not the body, as a sword might, but to the division of SOUL and SPIRIT, able to judge the thoughts and intentions. How powerful is that? 1 Corinthians 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. we cannot know what another person is thinking, unless he or she tells us. The Bible is able to know not only the thoughts, but the intentions of man. 2 Timothy 3:14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Wisdom unto salvation. That sounds powerful, and active. In an interesting correlation. Christ is also the Word of God. John 1:1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 [a]He was in the beginning with God. John 1: 14 And the Word became flesh, and [k]dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of [l]the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. Christ is the Word. Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. If Christ is the Word, and Christ lives in me, as a Christian, then I too am the outward manifestation of the Word in this world, or I should be. Through ME, the WORD of God IS living and active and powerful.

Maybe a vocabulary lesson is what she needs. "Supernatural" simply means above or outside of nature, not constrained by the laws of nature here on earth. Examples would be miracles: parting of the Red Sea, turning water into wine, healing a man blind since birth. There are also lessons of angels and heavenly beings. Elijah shows his servant the heavenly armies of God. Angels spoke to joseph and Mary.

you don't HAVE to add the "s" after the apostrophe. However, as a person whose name ends in "s" I like the apostrophe and get mad when people don't put it there. As I child, I felt slighted when someone wrote Hayes' book.

I have 2 little ones in preschool. Recess time is lost for misbehavior, with a penalty of ONE MINUTE per infraction. If it is something really bad, then maybe 2 minutes out. Losing ALL of outside time to do MATH for preschool is not cool.

How would you handle this? (CC)
HayesW replied to Dustybug's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If you want to address it, you need to do it scripturally. Go to her as a sister in Christ. If she doesn't repent, then take two or three with you as witness. If she doesn't repent, then you need to distance yourself from her. I am so sorry this is happening. We've had things happen in our congregation like this, but never within our family. Feel free to send me a private message if you'd like. -
Tuscaloosa, Alabama, what's it like there?
HayesW replied to Bang!Zoom!'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
Housing is inexpesive there. It is a college town, so keep that in mind. University of Alabama is a LARGE college too, lots of extra students. HS cover is super simple. My SIL and her family live in Northport. -
How long could you take a trip without a baby
HayesW replied to plain jane's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I once left my nursling for 6 days. He was just over a year old. Went back to nursing with no issues. -
Me! We don't celebrate Easter. We celebrate Christ's resurrection on every Lord's day. Bethany, your explanation makes perfect sense! We will be traveling to visit my family for lunch, but it is mostly because my sister and her family will be in town. We will attend worship services, just like every week.
