sixpence1978
I haven't completely decided on what we are doing yet, but this is where I am leaning: Spelling/Phonics/Handwriting: AAS with added games and occasional ETC pages to reinforce. HWT for the handwriting. English/Writing: Leaning toward BJU English 3 and would love to use the DVDs, but I am also currently reviews FLL that I picked up from the library. We also do a lot of language type games since she has some difficulties in this area. Reading: Probably mostly Sonlight readers, but I will add in some BJU Reading occasionally since I already own it. Math: Saxon and some games History: SOTW 1 (Ancients) with the Activity Guide and outside reading Science: I am looking into a group class that meets 2x a week. If that doesn't pan out, then probably BJU Science again. I really like their newest editions. Spanish: The group class mentioned about also does spanish. If she doesn't go to that, then we probably won't cover it and we'll stick with learning more sign language. PE: She takes a wonderful homeschool PE class. Plus lots of playing at the park and swimming lessons. Art: Eyeing Meet the Masters or Draw Squad Music: 9-note recorder and my own self-made lessons Edited March 20, 2011 by sixpence1978 forgot to include math

In2why
I am so out of order lol.....but for my rising 3rd grader. (actually more like 2nd and a half) Spelling--Finish AAS 3 and start 4 Reading- We use AAS for phonics because it works better than any other program we have tried and I think we tried them all. I choose on level books for him to read everyday for at least 30 minutes but I shoot for an hour. History- RSO Ancient history Science- RSO Life We did this out of order and completed Earth and Space this year. I decided to do Life for him and my K'r, but I will require outlines and writing from him as well. Grammar- Growing with Grammar (but only as a filler, not as a core) Writing--IEW based lessons pulled from his history, science, and read alouds. Math - This is where I am STUCK. We are completing MUS Beta, and I am not thrilled. We supplement with Math Mammoth. I used Saxon in 1st grade and liked the spiral aspect, but wasn't consistent with the meeting book and extras. I am going to pull out all three and made a decision. Art- Meet the Masters PE-- He takes swimming lessons, football youth league, B-Ball youth league, and soccer youth league, climbs trees, reads books, fishes, and nerf wars (I think we have PE covered) Edited March 19, 2011 by In2why

mommy4ever
Here is the plan, thus far, we're up to speed in most areas, with restarting first grade last April, so we're a little inbetween in some areas, she is close to being a grade 2 graduate, so we're doing great: Music: Piano via pianimals and basic teaching from mom. In 4th she may start formal lessons, but she is too timid right now. Looking at composer study with various junior biographies from the library and the Encyclopias at home. We'll be listening to music of the various composers thanks to the wonder library we have. Art: She does lessons through a homeschool program that touches onto different artists, cultures, with various mediums. This year she did studied aboriginal art of Australia, constructed African masks, clay sculptures of the Chinese Warriors and a little history, scroll painting. We'll continue that flow at home as well. Science: McRuffy 3rd grade for 1st semester, she is loving 2nd, that works out to approx 3 lessons a week, and with it being nearly all experiments, she's all into it. 2nd Semester we'll start Apologia - Astronomy. Whether we complete it all is not important, we can use it for 4th as well. Math - Math Mammoth 3 English - CLE - LA complete the 200's and continue through the 300's. WWE for writing, as well as starting letter writing to her grandparents, AAS for spelling. Latin - Prima Latina History - SOTW 2 with activity guide. PE - Ringette through winter months, swim lessons 2 sessions a year, wall climbing 1 session a year, Karate year round(if they run a summer program), as well as biking, hiking, walks and general outdoor play. French - Looking at Skoldo out of Europe. I'm liking the examples, and lesson plans. Religion - Positive Action workbook and bible reading/discussion. jenL
I'm still tweaking this, but here is what we're using so far: Math: Singapore 3A/3B Grammar: Rod & Staff 3 Writing: possibly just sticking with R&S 3 or adding WWE 3 - not sure yet. Spelling: AAS 3 (finish) & 4 Reading: I have DITHOR 2/3, so I will probably use that. Or we'll just read & narrate a la WTM. Still pondering... History: STOW Volume 3 w/AG Science: Elemental Science Chemistry Art: Not sure. Possibly classes at the local art museum PE:Taekwondo 3x/week, soccer, and baseball Latin: Not sure if I am going to begin this or wait until 4th grade to get a more solid grammar background in place. Bible: Continue the Team Kid bible work for kids' ministry meetings every Wednesday night (similar to Awana). Weekly bible copywork/memorization of verses for Sunday school. Geography: Rand McNally Intermediate Geography I think that's everything. I feel as if I'm forgetting something though...

DarlaS
Math: Parts of MM 3A/3B and occasional Saxon 54 lessons. Language Arts: ETC 6/7/8 for phonics & spelling, cursive handwriting from StartWrite pages I make myself, Grammar from either FLL 3 or GWG 3, probably WWE2. History & Geography: Story of the World -- finish 1 and start 2. Science: Elemental Science - finish earth & Space and start Chemistry about mid-year. I hope to do a more detailed study on geology in there somewhere. Art: We have a subscription to Mark Kistler's website, plus whatever I pull out from Artistic Pursuits etc. If we start anything new (I'm eying Atelier.), it will be after Christmas or so. Music: piano (either with our teacher or his older brother) ETA: I will also continue doing what I have been doing for art & music study: I've just been picking up random library books on one artist and one composer monthly. We have a book on Mozart and Michelangelo out right now. PE: co-op class, possibly Tae Kwon Do Latin: Might start Latin for Children A this year, but probably not until after Christmas. I am intentionally saving some things for after Christmas this year (or even the dreaded month of February :bored:). I'm hoping that will liven things up a bit during a time when cabin fever can be a problem here in Michigan. :tongue_smilie: Working with this particular kiddo is tricky. I seem to keep underestimating him, and he gets bored. I'm going to try to challenge him this year a bit and move things along a bit quicker. Maybe a little sentence diagramming and some Khan Academy science videos. Maybe some more advanced writing... (ETA: I just remembered I do have IEW--and he'll be the right age for it. Especially in February! :w00t:) Edited March 20, 2011 by darlasowders
