Mid-life Crisis.

Recommended Posts

I agree with no affair...

But.... I do spin and have seriously checked into the angora bunnies.

Things (Wheels and bunnies) can get quite expensive. Also, angora bunnies require daily attention.

But... with all the time you spend on your bunnies and spinning, could keep you out of a lot of other trouble:)

We did the green acres thing - DH left a corporate executive job, left the big city in WI/ IL, sold everything and moved to a 160 acre cattle farm in AR. Now we're redneck hicks. We love it. Oh, I also had another baby after 10 years. For both things, we've been called crazy by all our friends. Here's my "crisis" baby and DH bathing MY mini-donkey lawn ornament!

LOL I love this picture. It looks like one of those funny Photoshop pictures as if he were really washing a car or something and somebody changed it to a goat. lol Too cute. I love the idea of a farm, but that much actual work would probably kill me. lol

I'm 39 and haven't started my crisis yet, I don't think. When is it supposed to hit? Whenever I think about my future though, I always just imagine that I will finally do the things that I have always wanted to do, but couldn't because of kids/life/school etc. I guess I am pretty boring. lol

I suspect that my MLC is giving up home education.

Husband already had his before I met him. Threw up his corporate job in New York after his first wife instigated a divorce, spent six months travelling through Asia, fetched up in Taiwan where he started refreshing his Chinese, dated a few women, then met his new squeeze (me!). I think that we've both had enough travel and uncertainty in our lives that we are happy to slide quietly through middle age.

I always tease my dh that I'm his mid-life crisis. He got married for the first time at 48 years old and had two kids within 3 years. He jokes around that now that he has a wife and kids he can't afford a mid-life crisis - he did the expensive car, the boat, the trips around the world before he got married.

I think I got it all out of my system after my divorce. I dated a couple of much younger guys, finished school, got remarried, had two young kids and decided to homeschool them. :D Someday I'd like to do martial arts again (last time I did I was 19), a fencing class or archery - does that count as a midlife crisis? ;)

At 39 I ran off with a co-worker, married, and immediately got pregnant. Most would say that was my mid-life crisis - I know my family did! All those years of living quietly single in my nice little house in my nice little suburban neighborhood and suddenly I sell my house, store my belongings, move, elope, get pregnant, and start living here, there, and everywhere, including overseas.

Apparently we are still quite the office scandal 4 years later!

My husband and I are having our mid-life crisis together I guess. First we bought a fixer-upper hobby farm, planted a garden, bought chickens and were planning bunnies as our next purchase. The bloom faded from that rose when we decided we are just too lazy to enjoy all that work!

Now we are in the process of selling EVERYTHING we own, including the farm, buying a motor home, and hitting the road with 2 teens and a tween.

I am actually afraid of what we might decide to do next.

Is THAT why I want a little farm and chickens? I've has such a great desire to move and do that, but I never connected it with midlife (I'm 41). Makes sense though!

Maybe I should just stick to the bunnies and spinning wheel mid-life crisis option. That sounds great! :)

I think I already had mine if donkeys and barn birds are the tell-tale sign!

Adorable donkeys!!

But not the ducks. My mom has those and they are . . .lots of #$%^. They were cute for about 5 minutes when they could swim in the kiddie pool. They outgrew their cuteness.

So now I'm thinking I need a farmette. I want a breeding pair of fuzzy wabbits.

It is FUN!! Except for about a week before each gig. Then I question this craziness and come to realize that playing in front of a crowd is sheer lunacy. Then about 5 minutes after our set is over, it's is super fun again. ;) LOL. I hear the stage fright gets better with time.

I'm only 33 (bordering on 34), but listening with interest. A dear friend of mine turned 40 and got her master's degree in public health, is traveling the country as a national breastfeeding specialist, spent a month in Haiti helping out the families there, especially mothers, is more active in ballet than ever, is a practicing vegetarian (10+ years now) and is a member of the NRA and goes to the shooting range as a stress reliever (former bouncer and cop too), has a blue belt in taekwondo, and helps out as a certified doula. In fact, she's going to be at my dd's birth. She was for my second child too. I met her when ds was 5 months old and she was leading a mother's group. To top it off, she's beautiful, petite, keeps her house immaculate and organized, and a great mom. What an awesome person to know!

My midlife crisis? I thought midlife crises happened in the thirties for women.. LOL. All kidding aside, I'm going to resume swimming weekly in the Masters program, do one world travel a year (which country are we going this year?), get at least my Master's in Developmental Psychology, take ballroom dancing with dh, learn the tango, learn taekwondo (ds got me into it, and his teacher is awesome), take a gourmet cooking class, and sing in local theater and musical productions.

What about you? Got a plan or will you just let it happen.

My husband told me yesterday he thinks I should take flying lessons. I'm pretty sure he was joking but...

He really should think twice before he says these things as I just turned 40, and have kinda always wanted to. I'm actually going to look into it this spring. Might be one way to avoid the TSA! :D

At 51 later this month, I am

1) getting a divorce after fifteen horrible years, and

2) pursuing a career as a midwife.

Finally I have decided what I want to be when I grow up and the kids no longer need me on an hourly basis.

:thumbup1::thumbup::thumbup1::thumbup:

Good for you!!!

4'11" and kickin' @ss, biatch! Just kidding. I am that small though. It's very funny to watch me spar.

Hey, it's a lot easier to do some moves if you're small - just go in low, lol! Of course until I learn how to do that I do tend to get punched a lot. I'm 5'1" and 32, BTW, and just started martial arts 2 years ago. I'm not old enough for a mid life crisis yet, so I guess this is just for fun! :D

I grew up painfully shy. I was still pretty shy as an adult and then for some UNKNOWN reason, took a job as a corporate trainer, where I'd have to stand in front of groups of people talking.

I used to get sooo sick before each class. But after 2 years of agony, it all clicked and I now I LOVE public speaking. Go figure!

You'll probably get there, too, and THEN think of all the fun you'll be having! You rock!
