Overheard at the IGA

Recommended Posts

IGA is a small-town southern grocery store, for those of you who aren't from around here.

A friend and future homeschooling dad overheard another customer and the cashier talking about homeschoolers and how those kids should be in school because "they need the socialism."

I couldn't agree more!

LOL:) My kids are really missing out on becoming good socialists, aren't they?!

BTW, they do have IGA in CT, too, so it's not just southern. There is one in the little town I grew up in. For the longest time, I thought it was called "iggah" cause that was my parents nickname for the store! I was arguing with friends one time, saying it was "iggah" and they insisted that it was pronounced by the letters "I-G-A". I went to my mom and dad to prove them wrong. Guess who was wrong :tongue_smilie:

Yeah, I'm sure I've seen IGA north of the Mason-Dixon line as well... hmm..

We had one here (thumb of Michigan) until a couple years ago. They had been in the small towns in this area all my life. They've been closing up like crazy.

Now that building houses a "Grocery Outlet". :ack2: (Not kidding--that's the name of the store.)

My kids call it "iggah"! They even have me doing it now, too! We're in rural eastern WA state - I hadn't seen iggah anywhere else until I moved here. FWIW, I haven't seen any socialists at iggah, either. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough? :)

Yup I live in eastern WA, too, and I also had never seen them before living here.

Mothersweets, maybe we should join up and go looking for those iggah socialists together?
