Thanks for the replies..

**coffeegal... have you used history odyssey before? I really love the looks of it!!

Jennifer

We're using it this year, and I love it. I ended up separating the children's history, though. Early Modern was at a perfect level for my 7th grader, but too much for my 6th grader, and absurd for my 5th grader. It was either spend a lot of time adapting it up or down, or separate the children's history and deal with 3 different time periods. I did the latter, although I used the 'Try Before You Buy' option before I commited. Each child has been appropriately challenged and my dd now loves history. :001_smile:

I'm still debating some, but here's the tentative plan so far:

Bible/History/Literature: Biblioplan Middle Ages with MOH2, TQ guides and lots of reading - avid reader!

Also, going to do some Kay Arthur studies (for kids)

Geography: Thinking we are somewhat weak in this area and I feel this is important, so I am going to try some Trail Guide to World Geography with Geography with Art or whatever...

Math: Continue Videotext Algebra - he's finished A this week.

LA: CLE LA & Reading 800 - with some Lit guides at end of year.

Meaningful Composition

Science: Undecided - Waiting the BJU Physical to arrive (old VHS Homesat's)- either that or Apologia Physical. He loved BJU Life this year with Mrs. Vick. He will probably read the 8th grade Earth and Space too - for fun - strange child...lol...loves Science.

Latin: English From the Roots Up - hopefully, Vol 1 & 2

Getting Started with Latin ??? waiting to see

Art: Losing our great co-op class - hoping to find another - otherwise not so sure...??? Will definitely be doing a lot of Art History in Renaissance study.

Music: Continue guitar (passion) and piano lessons

PE: Various!

**whining** I don't knoooooowwww!

I think I know, but I don't. So far, here's what I'm sure of:

MUS Pre Algebra

Homeschool Greek

Building Thinking Skills book 3 verbal and figural

That's it, folks. That's all I'm sure about. I normally have it all figured out by now, but I'm so on the fence on so many things.

I did order Writing Strands, and the Jamestown Publisher's Best _________ books for literature, so I am pretty sure I'll use those.

I'm almost sure I'll use BJU's history, but I'm still trying to find history in a box that's not in a box, if you kwim. MCT is tempting, but I don't know. I wont' be able to see it until June. OM's English also looks good, as well as their civics, but if we do civics, we're putting off US history 1800's to the present until 9th grade. Will that matter? Should I wrap up US history next year and start high school fresh? I don't knoooowwwww! Should I do science as geography and health instead of one text for science? These are all issues I'm working to get to the bottom of. I'm just not there yet. And it's APRIL! I'm becoming a homeschooling veteran failure!

My ds will be in 8th grade next year. So far, I'm sure we're doing Teaching Textbook Pre-Algebra and Irasshai (Japanese). He's going to be taking English and an art class at co-op.

Science and history are still up in the air. I have been considering TOG, Sonlight, and TRISMS. I am leaning toward TOG. I was planning to try the new Monarch program for science, but after reading a recent thread, I'm not so sure. I was also thinking of getting the Milestones in Science kit. Sigh. Tough decisions!

I'm still tweaking this, so my plans may look very different by September. But here's what I have now:

Math: Finish up Foerster's Algebra I, start on Geometry: A Guided Inquiry using Math Without Borders teaching CD-ROM

Science: BJU Space and Earth Science using DVDs

Geography: BJU Geography

History: K12 20th Century History

Latin: Lukeion Latin II

Literature: Don't know. I'll probably put together a number of classic 8th grade books that we'll read together and discuss.

Composition: BJU English 8 composition lessons only

English: Rod & Staff English 8

Art: Drawing and painting lessons at a local art school

Music: Choir through our local Christian college

That may end up being too many subjects. She's so into ballet these days that our school day often ends in the early afternoon so she can start Pilates, stretch class, and ballet. I'm trying to decide how to manage this.

I am still trying to figure it all out. Still confused in many areas (as you can see)! And this may all change after the book fair!! LOL!

Math-Finish Algebra 1 w/ Larsons then Geometry with ?

Grammar- Continue Analytical Grammar

Daily grams

Vocab- Vocab from Classical Roots B (?)

Writing- Co-op or IEW American History or Jensens Format or IEW Elegant

Essay or ???????

Lit- Lightning Literature or Co-op with TLP

History- Finish American History w/ CLE

Civics with Calvert

Science- Rainbow year 1 & 2 at home or Co-op Apologia Physical or BJU

Latin- Latin Alive 1

Spanish- Finish SOS Spanish then SOS or BJU Spanish 1

Music- continue Piano lessons and theory

Photography- at Co-op

I am most confused about science. I feel like a good review year would be great but know that dds are capable of physical science. I am not sure what to do.

I love seeing what everyone else has planned!

I'm still researching and praying. I just don't know for sure yet. Here's what I'm thinking about...

Math: MUS Pre-Algebra or Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra (she's always done great with math; we've used Abeka. We jumped from Arith6 in 6th grade to Pre-Alg this year and she has struggled. She's passing, but I'd rather see higher grades; because of that I think we need to repeat pre-algebra. I don't want to move ahead without her really understanding things)

Critical Thinking: Get Me Out of Here! and Logic Spiders (reading comprehension/thinking skills are a struggle. I'm hoping these will help.)

Bible: Who Is God? (maybe...still thinking about this. We usually read and discuss together, but I feel like she needs some worldview teaching)

Geography/History: Trail Guide to World Geography, Geography Through Art, Eat Your Way Around the World, Student Notebook CD, Answer Atlas, Usborne Internet Linked Geography Encyclopedia. Adding historical ficition based on countries/continent we are studying. (I am seriously considering taking a year off of history this year and focusing on geography. We loved Sonlight this year and I will probably pull some of their historical readers to read along side with geography this year.)

Writing/Composition: Write Shop or IEW (we bought Write Shop, liked it and used it until our support group offered a "writing class" this year (we only got through a few lessons in Write Shop). She really liked IEW, what she used in writing class, so I'm torn. I already have Write Shop, so since I'm spending more on science and geography. I may use the Write Shop.)

Grammar: Still up in the air. Probably Shurley 7.

Spelling: Megawords??? (We've been using Spelling Power, but she still isn't as great a speller as I'd like. I have seen a lot of improvement this year, but I've been reading the posts about Megawords and am leaning that way.)

Vocab: Not sure yet. (Can English from the Roots up be used for this?)

Latin: English From the Roots Up (with notebooking pages)

Science: Not sure. (I'm trying to look at Rainbow Science, but am having trouble with the website. It's more than I have to spend, but we have find something that works. Maybe I can find part of it used.)

Typing: Typing Instructor Deluxe

Piano Lessons

Hmmm....I really don't have it all figured out yet. Which is not the norm for me. ;)

So far here is what I am thinking:

Bible: Completely undecided.

History: TOG Y2, Units 3 & 4 & Teaching Company's Early American History

Geography: TOG Y2

Literature: TOG Y2 plus some added books of my choosing. I may also reincorporate CLE's Reading 700 back into our week.

Math: Continue BJU's Pre-Algebra w/DVD and CLE's level 700 and then begin BJU Algebra 1 w/DVDs.

Writing: Classical Writing

Vocab: Undecided. Either MCT or Wordly Wise, or???

Grammar: Undecided. Either MCT, CLE, or BJU. Leaning towards a combo of CLE and MCT. Love BJU though. Hard decision.

Spelling: CLE if we use CLE for Grammar. Otherwise, undecided.

Science: BJU's Space & Earth or BJU's Physical Science (undecided...I own both and have both sets of DVDs)

Language: Pretty sure we are dropping Latin and picking up Spanish. Not sure what program to go with yet.

Logic: Thinking Toolbox and then afterwards a more structured Logic curriculum. Undecided on which.

Music: Continue piano lessons.

Here's the plan:

Oak Meadow 8 Civics and English

Figuatively Speaking

Physical Science (either OM, Rainbow, or Apologia)

Second Form Latin

Runkle's Geography (This is his choice. I think it will be too much, but he is determined.)

Thinking Toolbox

Electives (gym, health, art, industry and technology) at the PS junior high school

I think I have about 7 hours of school time at home in addition to his outside classes but those are what he considers his free time. He also plays football, runs track, and is a member of 2 other clubs at the school. We work from 8-12 then 6-9pm. It is a long day but he has his whole afternoon off for his extra curricular activities.

History: K12 History The Human Odyssey vol. 2 & 3

A History of US

Looking for Government resource

Last month I would have said "yes" to this question. Now, I'm not sure about some of it. Here's what I do know:

Grammar - Analytical Grammar, Season Three

Science - PHSE Physical Science

What I am not sure about:

Literature: Lightening Lit 8, Progeny Press or ??

Math:Chalk Dust Algebra I or ??? or Math U See?

I am not sure if we will do:

Logic - The Art of Argument if we do

Electives - DS has been doing fine arts (guitar, drawing and various co-op classes, but I think he wants something different. I don't know what.

It seems like I am suddenly missing stuff, but I don't remember what.

Ugh...my son is such a mixed bag!! Think gifted but *very*penmanship challenged, and mildly SPD. Here are some *thoughts* (that may change) about our 8th grade

English:

Outside writing class, paragraphs (once a week, teacher uses IEW/writeshop style) - in stone..we're doin it.

Grammar - CLE 8 (my choice, we've done 7 this year, I love it, son hates it), *maybe* switch to BJU, or analytical grammar?

Lit - waffling between BJU, LL8, or CLE. Love the lit analysis of BJU and CLE, like the real books of LL

History: At this point, I think a mix of BJU 8 American matched up with NROC US History I & II (very audio/visual....he loves having things on the computer). Grade level "output" mixed with the higher level "input". Got the BJU free, and the NROC is free also....yay!

Greek: keep plugging through Elementary Greek (we need to finish green level this year, have gone through Hey Andrew level 4 previously, so it is lots of review so far)

Math: Geometry (maybe all the geo chapters in NEM) along with Kinetic Books Alg 2

Science: "Earth Science" on the record...either BJUP Earth & Space, OR Apologia Physical with the dvd lecture guy that is pretty lively. Might be able to coop together with a friend.

Misc: finish up Fallacy Detective and Art of Argument (will be our "Informal Logic" elective on the transcript), Piano lessons (hard core....Certificate of Merit level 7 this year), Theater, PE with homeschool coop, Boy Scouts

yeah right :o)....like we'll get all that done...but I'm unfailingly optimistic! For the record, I'd love to put the kid in a Art of Problem Solving class this summer, but I'm scared he'll totally freak out at writing out loads of problems.....which might be a good thing....but might also drive me up a tree and cost me money for headaches....oy.
