  1. Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe he meant they don't sell individual cd's for precal anymore? I don't know.... He never mentioned 1.0 vs 2.0 or upgrading. He just said I could have someone make me a copy since they don't sell them. I'm so mad at myself. I hate to spend $100 on a program I already own. Thanks for your time and your suggestion.
  2. I used teaching textbooks precalc a few years ago with my daughter. I am now using it for my son, but one of my lecture discs is missing. I called teaching textbooks and they no longer sell the dvd programs. They said since they don't sell them any more, I could have someone make a copy for me. If anyone who has teaching textbooks precalc lecture dvd's, would you be willing to copy a disc for me and send it to me? I would pay you for it. Thanks.
  3. Both of my daughters did AP Lang and AP Lit with Blue Tent. It was one of the best experiences in our 12 years of homeschooling. They both loved the classes and became excellent writers. I feel it prepared them well for college course work. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I can ask my daughters for input. Grace

  5. No. We used Chalkdust for Algebra1 and Saxon with Dive CD for Algebra II and Pre-Calc. Geometry was the only Teaching Textbook program we used.
  6. My daughters were good in math but didn't like math. They did Teaching Textbooks. They felt prepared for the SAT and ACT.
  7. Congrats to everyone!! I love reading about everyone's success!! And I love the list from TechWife of the cumulative list of college admissions!! Just wanted to update our list. Both twins were accepted to Southern Methodist University with $10,000 per year of merit scholarship. And we finally heard about merit scholarship from Texas Christian University with the amount of $18,000 per year. Still waiting for University of San Diego, but not expecting that until mid February. Baylor University seems to be my twins first choice.
  8. Yes, they are identical twins and very close. We lived in Texas but moved to California this summer. When we lived in Texas, Baylor and SMU were their top picks (and both less than 1.5 hours from home). Since our move, we had them apply to a few Cali schools too, but told them if they do go back to Texas it would have to be together. It was overwhelming thinking of sending them both to college at the same time, but I don't even have words to describe the feeling of sending both to college in another state. So proud of their accomplishments but so sad to have our 12 year "homeschooling experiment" coming to an end. :(
  9. The scholarships are for all 4 years. Sorry for the confusion. Some schools reported it as "per year" and some as "dollar amount divided over 4 years or over 8 semesters". I did not intend to make the scholarships seem larger than they are. Sorry. I will edit the post to make it clearer. Congrats to your son.
  10. This is one of my favorite threads each year!! Especially this year as my twin daughters are seniors!! They have been accepted to every school we applied to so far: Baylor University with $64,000 scholarship each ($16,000 per year) Abilene Christian with $80,000 Scholarship each ($20,000 per year) Santa Clara University (haven't heard if any scholarship yet) St. Mary's of California with $96,000 scholarship each ($24,000 per year) Texas Christian University (haven't heard if any scholarship yet) They should hear from Southern Methodist University this week and University of San Diego in February. Congrats to everyone!! It is such an amazing accomplishment! Grace
  11. Hi Everyone! I posted a few weeks back about our potential move to California, and now it looks like it is a sure thing. I understand one must fill out the Private School Affidavit in October. My twins will be seniors in high school, and I would like them to take community college classes in the fall. It looks like you need to show the cc the affidavit to apply/attend. I won't have one since school would start in August and I wouldn't file until October. Can I file in June (when we move) even though our "school year" is over? Then would I file again in October? I talked with the CC, but the person I spoke to didn't have an answer. She left a message for someone else to call me back, but I haven't heard anything yet. Anyone know how I should handle this or where to get more information? If it matters, we are moving to Northern California around San Ramon. Thanks, Grace
  12. Thank you for your responses. Looks like the public universities may not be an option for us. I'm not sure what we will do. My twins have worked so hard to get a nice SAT score, so I would really hate for all that work to be for nothing if we went the CC route. I guess I need to start researching some private school options. Thanks again, Grace
  13. Hello, It looks like my family will be moving to California this summer from Texas. I have twins that will be starting 12th grade and a son starting 8th grade. From what I have read, it is pretty easy to homeschool in California. My concerns are for my daughters, who will be seniors. Our original thought was to move this summer, before their senior year, so the following year we will be in state residents as they apply to a UC school. My question is since we did about 21 credits in Texas, we do not have the a-g requirements. They took the recommended classes, but they obviously were not "approved", and we do not have AP or SAT subject tests. Do you know if this is waived at all since we did not live in California while taking those classes? We really have only looked at the UC system because those schools were more in line with their SAT scores. Is the CSU system the same requirements? Before the move came about, he plan was to take their senior classes as dual credit, but it will not be all the requirements. And it looks like UC wont even accept homeschool transcripts. So is this even an option for us? And now for my 8th grade son, how do homeschoolers complete the a-g requirements? I plan on filing the Private School Affidavit. How do I go about jumping through the hoops with him? Is the AP and SATII subject tests or Community College the only options for homeschoolers? And can you start CC in 9th grade to meet all the requirements? Feeling so sad and overwhelmed by all this. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Grace
