  1. My dd had Mrs. Richman last year and said it was "one of the best classes ever" and this is coming from someone who does not like history. I don't know much about the other teacher(s), but I'm sure they are all pretty good.
  2. Options, different degree programs and honors programs available, locations, etc.
  3. No, but we visited most of them. We ended up visiting one right after DD started the application process.
  4. DD applied to her #1 choice ED and found out last month that she was accepted.. She had 4 other applications in process though - 1 middle and 3 safe - which she promptly withdrew.
  5. To clarify, our counselor letter went in the counselor section, and our teacher recommendation was uploaded in the teacher section. They were two completely different letters. HTH
  6. We uploaded one in the counselor's section as well as the teacher's section.
  7. I would actually like to know the answer to this one as well. We will have a letter from a coach. Anyone?
  8. Yes, a hearty congratulations to you both! I too will feel a huge sense of relief once my dd's first app is submitted. We see the light at the end of the tunnel right now. :)
  9. We purchased a Logitech headphone with mic from Best Buy and it seems to work just fine (no static, earphones are cushy and comfortable, good mic). My dd also uses it with a Macbook. On a side note, which online French class is your dd in this year? My dd is taking French III with Madame S. at TPS.
  10. Thanks! This is great. Just printed a copy of the data sheets.:)
  11. So far, we have had two smaller, private LOCs request course descriptions. We also had a meeting with a public university rep who said that course descriptions were very helpful in being to see/compare the rigor of the classes.
  12. Sure. My younger dd's school has them take physics, chemistry, and biology in that order.
  13. Wow, Faith! I will think of you whenever I am feeling stressed out during the next 5 months. Chin up as my mother always tells me. :)
  14. The ball is rolling a little bit here. DD has started Common App. and essay, and letters of recommendation are forthcoming. I am almost done with the course descriptions. The homeschool profile and counselor letter are a lot more work, but I have a good idea of what I want to say for each one. One school has already asked for the syllabi for any outsourced classes, and fortunately (thanks to advice from WTM moms) we saved all of this information so it's just a matter of making copies. I feel we are in a good place right now, but I can see things slipping through the cracks if we are not careful. I will definitely use Kareni's spreadsheet idea...thank you!!
  15. Another vote for Madame S. at Potter's School. She is a wonderful teacher.
  16. Okay, I only read the first couple of posts but I think I can add a tiny bit to the discussion. My dd has been swimming competitvely for 8 years now. Believe it or not, this is the first year she actually had to get up at 4:30 AM, as all the other years had night practices. When her coach brought up the whole morning practice thing, she also thought it sounded fun. We decided to give it a try. Here is my pros/cons list. Pros - gets it over with early in the day pool is not as busy or noisy because fewer kids want morning swim workouts are harder (only really dedicated swimmers attend) no traffic to deal with Cons - really hard to adjust to this schedule as a teenager can barely keep her eyes open between 2-4 PM sometimes can't get to bed early enough because of other activities/deadlines getting up at 4:30 AM in February when it's really, really cold outside is not fun sleeps in later on weekends which throws whole schedule off the following week These are just a few of the things that immediately pop into my mind. I think the biggest disadvantage is beginning this kind of schedule at 16 when your body is already used to the nighttime practices. It's really difficult. However, all that being said, I think swimming is a terrific sport for the body and mind. It requires hard work and discipline and all of that spills over into schoolwork. The jury is still out as to whether or not she will be swimming in the AM next year.
  17. My dd just finished both of those courses. Her AP Language exam was yesterday and she is so happy to be done. I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said. As long as your child is motivated, fairly organized, and independent then two AP classes is not a problem. I had no qualms about registering her for 3 APs next year (she chose Physics, Economics, and Calculus AB) based upon this year's performance.
  18. Just curious as to why you don't seem to want to use PA Homeschoolers?
  19. I agree with everyone else. Let her continue to move up the ladder at her own pace. The science and technology high school in our area has many kids starting pre-calculus in 9th grade and they don't seem to run out of math options. Every year there seem to be more and more options for homeschoolers, so I would definitely not worry about it.
  20. Perfect timing! This is great! My dd and I were just discussing note-taking yesterday and now I have an example to show her. Thank you.
  21. We also just finished up with National Driver Training Institute. It was a solid course, however I'm not sure whether or not you get any kind of insurance discount. Probably depends upon the company.
