  1. My planning side would like to begin, but for now my focus is to finish up this year. I'll save the fun research part as treat for myself at the end of this quarter.
  2. What math curriculum do YOU use and why does it work for YOUR dc? Saxon It works because they do the lessons, and I grade them. One uses the Saxon Teacher and the other just the text. I began using Saxon after reading the recommendation in The Well Trained Mind. A complete program that went through high school was a big factor for me in choosing our math program. It isn't difficult to teach, and the DIVE or Saxon Teacher cd-rom lessons are an added teaching bonus.
  3. :grouphug: We are in a 4 season state, and the dark winter weather gets to me too. I've adjusted by going to bed earlier, eat well, and get out any day the sun shines. Today is 22' and sunny...I've bundled up twice and been out, and I may go out again for a nice walk. I do keep the lights on and the temperature inside warm. That along with the extra sleep and knowing seems to help some.:grouphug:
  4. I have white cabinets in my kitchen. Be sure to use Kitchen / bath cabinet paint that is washable. Also prime and do a good prep before you paint. I find a baby-wipe works wonders for cleanup, and no I'm not cleaning them constantly. (My kids are older btw, and the cabinets and all the wood trim in the house was white when we moved in.) It does help brighten up the place in the winter.
  5. I do this too with many books, as well as all Modern Scholar and Teaching Company items. Check them out, put them on reserve, be a pest and request them...I just try to keep them circulating. Try doing a science, state or country report here, haha they don't bother.
  6. We pay taxes in my state, no tax break and WE HAVE TO TEST here.
  7. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:Prayers.:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  8. I've read them, and recommend them. I've reread a few, and continue to as my children get older. (I even mark up my big copy with a highlighter and notes.:w00t:) The original author is always worth reading imo. The Omnibus edition is easier on the eyes.
  9. Our local middle schools, purchased $8000 worth of copies last year...Decided not to use them, and shredded them instead. The waste of dollars and the shredding of books, got to me. We read it in my 8th grade literature class.
  10. :grouphug:We started back a few days ago. Vacations never last long enough for any of us.
  11. I gag along with you. Our library is now embracing literacy by purchasing countless copies of wii, and PlayStation games. Apparently books just aren't popular check-outs anymore. Like your library, they are culling and selling books to make space for the hot items. Gag.
  12. The Critical Thinking Company, has a number of options. My two liked the Mind Benders and Red Herring Mysteries.
  13. :svengo: Hey now, those were a recommended board / Christmas recipe a few years ago;). They were yummy, but a little rich for our taste, and I don't remember the cornflakes. I think someone even had a crock-pot recipe.
