  1. Snort...Me too. I'm glad you are all okay, but real sorry about the flooding. Floods are just so devastating for so long.
  2. Poor baby, I hope he feels better soon. :grouphug: I remember having to pinch the nose shut to swallow.
  3. See if your library has a copy of Squarefoot Gardening, by Mel Bartholomew. We use his soil mix. (The NO Weeding!) We tried another box with good organic stuff from the garden store last year, but the yield was much, much less, and the savings weren't that great, and the weeds were plentiful. We will just amend the big box we have this spring and reuse it again. Your library may have container gardening classes, and they are a great place to share seeds, ideas and meet people sharing your interests. Another veggie option is to find a local CSA. Some will let you work for the produce, by hosting a pick-up weekly at your home.
  4. None of the links worked for me. Did it say if the seller or buyer would be paying the tax?
  5. I'd be in bed all winter with an indoor temperature that low.:grouphug: You poor thing... Inside the temp is set 72'-74' because 73' is comfy here. Our home is a two story with a basement and the temperatures vary from room to room and level to level.
  6. I've only got one mom and dad. Given an ultimatum, I would have been uncomfortable and indirectly addressed them as you do. That was imo, a terrible way to welcome someone into the family. My stubborn side now, would call them by their first names.
  7. They can label it what they want, seasonal depression, cabin fever...It can and does drive many us a little nuts. :grouphug: I hope y'all melt...soon.:grouphug: Tammy...Not lovin my winter wonder land...except when it actually is snowing...That part is beautiful...as long as it isn't a blizzard or ice. We aren't melting here anytime soon.:tongue_smilie:Today is a balmy 1' degree.
  8. Ah, winter... We're there, doing that:glare:. One little suggestion to preserve both your sanity and his, is to break up your couch time. Go over the lesson (in something easy for you) and send him to work on that single subject while you read through the harder or newer to your mind subject. Then begin again. I think their minds are clicking away much faster than ours, and many are frustrated and distracted by more direction than they need. kwim? What you mention will also work, but don't let his independence be a punishment of sorts. He may be ready to work alone in some subject more than others. Find a balance and work from there. You two will find your groove again. I'm busy here tweaking our schedule. I'm realizing my ds needs me know when he needs a push and is ready to do more on his own. Even if he grumbles... Winter is a drag here too. I cannot wait for spring. Good luck...I must run and get dinner on the table.
  9. :grouphug:I feel for your family, and I'll be praying for all of you.:grouphug:
  10. I understand your position. Just to be prepared, document the conversations and such in case you need them later. Hopefully, your dd will feel welcome in the classroom. That teacher sounds pretty set in her beliefs, and adept at making them known.
  11. :grouphug: Your dd needs to behave in class, but I would be sure to only allow your dd, to be held accountable for her actions in class, not any others. She isn't the first to be loud, boisterous, disrupt, talk and not raise her hand, but she needs to learn. kwim? She's still a work in progress, learning, but she shouldn't be belittled in front of her classmates. That conversation would have flummoxed me to have, but do regroup and don't allow her to spoil your dd's experience in class. Imo, she is way out of line to make those generalizations, and project them onto your dd, and homeschoolers in general. Lots of people from public school to homeschool fit the criteria she mentioned, and your dd was simply being 12;). You may need to talk with someone in leadership, because my feelings are the teacher will continue.
  12. Rice Cooker Toaster Oven Canister Set Toaster Can Opener Butter Dish Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer Bowl of Fruit Mail Sorter That list is longer than I thought it would be. Hmmm, time to rethink my use of counter space and declutter a bit.
  13. :grouphug:Christine:grouphug: You're in my prayers.
  14. The best curriculum choice is the one that gets done, day after day. The work is what works;). Use what works for you, and free yourself of worry and guilt. Hope you feel better.:grouphug:
  15. Fear of sticking delayed my switch to stainless steel pots and pans, but man I love them. You can use oil, butter, or spray and most things don't stick...And so what if they do, scrub them with a Brillo pad, green scrubby, knife, fork...You can't damage the surface. If something sticks, I fill it with hot soapy water and scrub a little and waa-la.
