  1. The Well Trained Mind, is most likely free at your library, and would give you the lists, plan and questions you need to make history work with library books. Time lines can be very inexpensive to make at home. http://donnayoung.org/history/timeline.htm http://thehomeschoolmagazine.com/Homeschool_Reviews/reviews.php?rid=422
  2. We use Mel's method and mix here with good success. We did try to tweak the mix with just organic soil mix and it didn't produce nearly as well, so we went back to mixing it. His system was and is easy, the first year was the most expensive, but now that I have the boxes the cost is much less. The raised bed, scissor method and no weeding work well for my back:001_smile:. This will be our 4th growing season and I'm really looking forward to my garden. My library has a container garden series this month that I'm hoping to make for more ideas, and to meet some fellow container gardeners. I do have to contend with squirrels that get around my necessary rabbit fence. :tongue_smilie:
  3. :grouphug:I hope and pray you're feeling better this morning.:grouphug:
  4. Yes we have a 2006 World Book set, purchased in 2008. I found a great library/school dealer on eBay. We do use them even with internet access;). My ds almost always has one or two in his room.
  5. I'd toss the socks after cleaning with them, so you'll both be happy. I mean how clean does something have to be to clean up cat v or poop? Disclaimer....Some feet are gross and I would only use socks from happy feet. I shudder remembering a friend's dad's feet from hs:tongue_smilie:. They smelled with shoes on...I think I'd have to burn them:001_huh:... or I guess you could bleach them.
  6. It's windddddy and we're digging out. The temperature is 7', but the windchill is -10', and we're expecting more snow today. We ended up with 12 new inches on top of the old snow. It's pretty, but I've no desire to go out there.:chillpill: I'm so glad dh is home today and was able to take his time with the snow-blower, and that the power stayed on.
  7. Learning to eat only until you are 75% full and satisfied can be a blessing. It's hard, but it will work to retrain you to healthier portions. And you'll get to eat all the yummy stuff.
  8. Note taking can be done in different ways. It sounds like she is making adjustments herself at the desk. A slant board might help her. 1. Record the lecture and take notes later 2. Type them Handwriting accommodations such as typing/computer or verbal answers are possible. It is often hard for someone with dysgraphia to focus on both handwriting and content at the same time.
  9. Thanks for linking the article. We were discussing this here and sadly came to the conclusion that...College is the new high school.
  10. Roof Rake...I'd never heard of one until we moved here, they have a super long handle. Have water on hand *Make sure your outside hoses are not attached to the spouts Boiling water will up the humidity inside and help it feel warmer if you don't have a humidifier
  11. :grouphug: You must be about to burst waiting for the news of your grand-baby.:grouphug: Keep us posted. I think D.C. is always culture shock:001_smile:, but you are going to love a lot of it.
  12. toilet paper Kleenex paper towels bathroom cups paper products of all kinds if you use them. plates, napkins, etc. (They get nice seasonal ones in for parties cheeses butter cottage cheese frozen items books video games tax program yearly cereal real maple syrup;) coffee & tea we don't drink them anymore though popcorn vitamins shampoo conditioner Dove soap some medications glasses printer cartridges tv's I buy some produce at Sam's, but only US grown
  13. I'd say yes, but a program is not necessary. WEM and TWTM have excellent reading lists, discussion and writing questions as well as how to do it.
  14. :iagree: with the others, you've made it work. Your system sounds very logical and easy to implement in other areas.
  15. I think you did the right thing for the right reasons, and that is always worth while.
  16. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Will the flex total be lowered with your plan? Ours was due to the new bill, and I do.not.like.it.one.bit. We are also hit with the prescription reg...
  17. I've always been open to an hour outdoors if they want it. However, mine are older now. My ds might enjoy going out, but dd...is 16 and it just isn't that tempting anymore. They grow up so quickly:grouphug:.
  18. Your happiness shines through. Congratulations.
  19. I'm wondering the same thing here. We currently have a two-story four bedroom with an extra computer room/den and a full basement. One story will be a must, and I'm thinking of a small ranch like my mom and dad's. Their home is a three-bed, two bath and I think we (family of four) could live comfortably there now. I'll also want a smaller yard with minimal maintenance, so a warmer climate without snow-blower and shoveling would be really nice too. (I would rather keep the 2 &1/2 baths though.)
  20. Stay safe everyone.:grouphug:We'll get the blizzard part, but the ice is below us.
  21. One more reason they should still call it child-care or day-care as it was for years, and not school. Poor kid is only three and punished for being a kid.
