Just a vent, no need to agree with me-

I wish for a single doctor to look at the whole picture instead of sending each different thing out to a different doctor.  I am getting beyond frustrated with the whole not able to look at the whole picture and think maybe it is all related.  Treating each symptom as if it is completely its own problem is just baffling when it could be related to another.  Another day, another specialist………

I hear ya. I had a pinched nerve last fall that wreaked havoc on my posture. That resulted in a massive escalation in TMJ symptoms. The spine doctor wouldn't comment on the TMJ and the TMJ dentist wouldn't comment on the spine and posture. And they wouldn't talk to each other either. Meanwhile I'm the clueless patient dragging around my x-rays and begging these so-called experts to help me figure out what I can do to be in less pain and stand up straight. Argh.

The whole not taking to each other thing is annoying.  Perhaps, if you talked to each other the patient could get better treatment.

My kids doctors have better communication skills with each other than the adult doctors.

Yes, we are in the middle of the doctor issue. My DH had cardiac bypass surgery in December, only caught by our general practitioner because he was having shortness of breath. But...now the cardiologist, nephrologist, and endocrinologist are just not in the same boat about medication and no one consults with each other. It leads to some scary situations such as medication dosing and even simple things like fluid intake. The kidney doctor gets flustered when my husband reminds him that the cardiologist wants severe fluid limitation but the kidney doctor says no, that's not good. Then, medication dosing: The cardiologist doubles the diuretic dose but the kidney doctor scales it back! And they are in the same hospital but different medical organizations. The heart surgeon was very good but doesn't see patients after recovery. And the diabetic doctor refuses to listen to my husband about her insulin dosing being too much. So, it's very frustrating. No one listens to anyone else. And our general practitioner has been absolutely no help at all in these issues. Each specialist looks at only their specialty and not the WHOLE body.

Oh, gosh. This. Happened with my FIL 15 years ago, too. It has not gotten any better. Quite possibly worse. Sigh.

A functional medicine doctor will look at the big picture. You will likely still be sent to others if you need a specialist’s eye, but there is someone (ime) looking at the entire web of my health.

My vent is my back. It is twinge-y lately and slowing me down. Such a bother.

Dh has some weird allergy that is affecting his eyes that just started a couple months ago.   One or both of his eyes will suddenly swell shut.  This has happened several times and it happens so fast that he has less than 30 minutes to drive home before he can't open his eyes.   He looks like he took a punch without the bruising. We have been to urgent care several times, the ophthalmologist twice and they just give him some drops and told him to take Benadryl.  He has never had allergies in his life.  There appears to be no rhyme or reason to why this is happening or what triggers it.  If the swelling doesn't go down quickly, we may have to miss a concert tomorrow night that he was really looking forward to.

I wish we could have one but the one in the area is not taking new patients nor do they take insurance.  It is ridiculous

I’m on work placement right now and the things that I’m expected to get ticked off in 18 days are basically impossible. I have worked so hard to study for two years around the edges of homeschool and work and I feel like I’m going to fail because the objectives in the practical stage are so unachievable, especially in the workplace I’m working in which is so busy and a bit chaotic.  It would be ok if it just required me to do a crazy amount of work but it needs other people to do a crazy amount of stuff as well.

I’m all in on the doctor vent. I have an antibiotic resistant infection that just keeps getting scarier and more painful. Three docs on it, deferring to each other, and we are spending a small fortune to see minimal results. It’s disheartening.

Also — we are just in a week of chaos. DS had oral surgery; I am in pain and can barely leave the heating pad; FIL is in hospice and rapidly declining; and to cap it all off, our dishwasher died and the repair guy was booked out for ten days. I am the designated dish washer since kids have allergies to some foods others eat, and DH has a bad burn on one hand, so we are falling behind on dishes. Aaaaagh!

Thanks, @Kassia! We all have our trials, and I’m trying to stay positive, but man — it’s hard some days.

We are trying herbals now, since I’m allergic to all the abx to which this beast is susceptible. Fingers crossed!

I sure hope you get your thing worked out soon, too. And all of us venting here!

You've been through a lot.  It's okay to not feel positive all the time.  ❤️  Hope you get good results from the herbals very soon.  I'm sorry about FIL too.

Yes! Bouncing from one to the other is nuts. Coordination of care is wholly up to the patient.

Can I vent?  After a month of a bad cold that ruined my chance to see ds on Mother's Day, I have pneumonia.  I'm miserable.   This past month I was dx'd with a rare blood clotting condition and have to take meds forever and wear compression socks.   And I may have a 2nd condition.  I'm about ready to throw in the towel.  😭

That sucks - I hope you're able to get stuff ticked off or appeal to the supervisor. It's crazy the expectations for people who are so busy already.

I have had the worst week with health stuff for family and Drs not talking to each other leading to an operation being cancelled at the last minute. And now my main casual worker has resigned so the planned holiday we were going to take later this year might not be able to happen. Ugh and argh.
