Terabith
I’ve got the flu or bronchitis or some nnnspecific upper respiratory infection. One feature is a bad cough. It’s productive, and I’m taking musinex, but it just doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Any advice? I feel lousy.
Kassia
I wonder if you need antibiotics if it's bronchitis or an infection. 😞
Jaybee
When oldest ds was young, he had a propensity to respiratory infections. Our pediatrician always had me cup my hand and do percussion hits (?) on his back and on his chest to loosen up the phlegm. I'm wondering if it wouldn't help to use a percussion massager on your back and chest.
Terabith
I saw GP yesterday, and he didn’t suggest anything then.
mominco
I am at the tail end of this(tested negative for flu,Covid, strep) and the only 2 things that helped are antibiotics and inhaler. I got sick on the 10th and I still have a little cough left but the cold symptoms remain. I hope you can get the DR to send a script out asap. Hugs, there is so much of this going around.
Brittany1116
Percussion, rebounding, epsom baths, plenty of fluids and decongestant to thin it and move it out.
TheReader
Mine started improving when I started using Vick's vapor rub at night. The cough is more productive now than it was before. Could just be progression of the illness, so....who knows. Also, plenty of fluids, to keep thinning everything out. Steam. Hot tea. How shower. Etc. It's miserable.
gardenmom5
Include electrolytes in your liquids. Even just a couple a day is helpful at thinning/allowing the mucinex to be more effective. vicks on the bottom of your feet, and the back of your neck. try it. . .
Drama Llama
Another vote for lots of hydration, and steam. Can you sit in the bathtub and aim the shower if you are too fatigued to stand.
Katy
Shower steam. Antibiotics after 10 days. When you’re no longer sick aerobic exercise that makes you gasp and cough helps clear your lungs but you don’t want to push it when still sick. AmandaVT
I drink lots of very hot water with honey and lemon in it. That seems to help and it's also very soothing. Steamy showers- as hot as I can stand. Feel better!!
Terabith
Also prescribing an inhaler.
kbutton
The inhaler should help. You might Google how to huff cough.
Spryte
Inhaler should help. More votes for steam, hydrating. What about Mucinex?

Shoeless
I used to get bronchitis very frequently. It took about 6 weeks to fully resolve each time, (sorry). The inhaler will help a LOT. I'm glad they are prescribing one. Lots of water, rest, hot showers. I never felt much relief on mucinex; in fact, I think it made the coughing worse most of the time. YMMV. Lucy the Valiant
An alternative to showers is a DIY steam tent w/ towel. Sustained deep breaths of concentrated steam can really help out all the other things you're doing.
plansrme
N Acetyl Cysteine. Google it, but we've found it helpful for what you're describing. It thins the gunk, or something like that. Good for anything bronchial.
chocolate-chip chooky
A respiratory physio taught us a simple trick. Blow out steadily for as long as you can. When you think you're out of air, keep blowing for a few more seconds. This opens up your lungs right down deep, and stimulates really good coughs to clear your lungs. I hope you feel better soon.
