If my daughter gets it, I'm going there and maybe even bringing her home.

I hear you. His post it says she had asthma and was left in the dorm room, which means she was getting telemedicine. Given where she was at, I don't know if she would have had access to therapeutics like Chris Christie got. Each college and university has their own policies on how they are handling this, but it's pretty clear the policies didn't get her to the hospital and didn't get her to the level of care she needed. What a horrible situation.

Spanish and French video lessons, great for homeschoolers. Very affordable and an unusual presentation. https://www.theulat.com/

We ALL love his videos. My kids really enjoy them (ages 12, 14, and 15). And since he talks about his family and has pictures of his family, it makes us feel like we're in his living room. DS15 has emailed him a number of times when he's been confused about something and he gets back to him right away.

that is so tragic as I have 2 kids in college right now.  I am just curious....where was she going to school at?  Policies vary from state to state, college to college....and this is so not ok that she couldn't get the level of care as an asthma patient should receive.  My heart breaks from their loss.

Peter, your assumptions are wrong, as you are missing important details.  It would have been best not to speculate without personal knowledge of the situation. (Steve Nesbitt)

We're all very sorry for your loss. We only know what was shared in the media and many of us here also have kids in dorm settings. Would you like to share what did happen?

Yet, I understand.  This has been a frightening time for all of us and we like to assure ourselves that we can control every variable and keep our families safe.  We cannot.  Thankfully, our God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love.

If it helps.  She could not come home (nor did she want to) because of our age and health issues.  (Bethany was the last born of our 9 children when we were already 46  and 43.)  Her mother, an RN, has health issues that obliged her to retire and, were my wife to contract COVID, statistics indicate that her probability of death is 30%.  Bethany's death was totally unrelated to asthma.  She was not solely dependent upon telemedicine, as you concluded.  One of dozens of students quarantined at that time in their dorm rooms, she was both visited by a nurse and had a doctor's visit.  We drove six hours to take an oximeter to her, along with medication recommended by a pandemic specialist, and her mother followed Bethany's readings multiple times a day.  Bethany was within 48 hours of the end of her quarantine period, her fever had ceased and the doctor who saw her assured her that she was recovering well and said, "If I were going to Vegas, I would bet on you."  Twenty-four hours later, as Bethany lay quietly in bed, a blood clot went from her legs to her lungs and ended her earthly life.  More could be said but, if you are concerned for your children, should any become ill with Covid, consult your physician as to what measures can be taken to prevent blood clots it can cause.

I understand that this has been a frightening time for all of us and that we like to assure ourselves that we can control every variable and always keep our families safe.  We cannot, but God can and has in Bethany's sake.  (Isaiah 57:1,2)  There are far worse things than death that can happen to our children and God, who is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love, has thoughts and ways that are far above ours and yet, for those of us left behind to grieve, He tenderly walks with us through the water and the fire. (Isaiah 43:1,2)  If you have not seen it, it may help you to get a bigger picture of God's sovereignty if you read my son's article found at:  https://theathletic.com/2257503/2020/12/25/bethany-nesbitt-grace-college-covid-death/?source=emp_shared_article .  May God always keep your children in His care.

Beautifully written.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

This verse was a comfort to me, that there is greater hope through this sorrow.  1 Thess. 4:13

That a beautiful article and a wonderful verse. Thanks @Steve Nesbitt for sharing. It actually had me reliving the pain of losing my son, my oldest. We got the unexpected news of his death in another city just 19 days before my daughter gave birth to my first grandchild. The pain, the sorrow, the joy all mixed at the same time.

I am so sorry for your loss.
