I have 2 great, great grandfathers who served in the Civil War on the Union side - does that count?

Although not a direct blood relation, my grandmother's cousin was in WWI as one of the Doolittle Raiders who attacked Japan. He survived 3 years in a Japanese prison camp. He died earlier this year at the age of 95.

Both of my brothers served in the military - one in the Marines and one in the Army.

My nephew served in Iraq with the Marines.

Thank you to all the families who make sacrifices for our freedom.

My aunt's brother - Air force

DS10 is at the ceremonies today with his Cadet troop, and was in awe of all the medals on the senior veterans jackets, now that he is in cadets he is starting to figure out what all those medals stand for and what those veterans had to face to get them.

Father - US Navy & Coast Guard - 26 years - Vietnam

Uncle - Navy - I don't know how long - Vietnam

Uncle - US Navy - 3 years - Vietnam

Uncle - US NAvy - 3 years - Vietnam

Uncle - US NAvy - 20 years - Vietnam

Hubby - US Navy - 15 years - Gulf War

BIL - US Air Force - 10 years - Vietnam

BIL - US Air Force - 10 years

BIL - US Army (I think) - 20 years

Ex - US Air Force - 10 years

I think that everybody. I was a military brat, my first dh was in the military and my hubby was in the military. When he first got out I was lost. I had been military my entire life and lived overseas quite a bit. I had no idea how to function in civilian life. My kids have no experience of military life. They just know that their dad was in the Navy and like to look at his pictures and medals. I recently showed one of my girls a picture of their dad in his dress whites and they said, "That's not dad. It's Tom Cruise!" I don't particularly like TC but I did think it was quite the compliment. Their dad took it the same way. By the way, my hubby is very handsome. :) And in his dress whites? Can you say, "Hubba, Hubba"?
