Grr. He complained Monday about this. He got something in his eye at work, I' m sure. Here it's Friday and he comes home from work and finally admits he needs to go to the dr. Dh takes him to urgent care. Two slivers of metal and the dr. can only get one out. The other is too deep. :/  He sent him to an ocular surgeon at large well-known hospital nearby. That's where they are headed now. I am going back and forth between worried about his eyesight and mad that It takes 5 days to go to the dr. when your mom tells you to. Ugh!

If it is in the white of the eye it is unlikely to affect vision. My only concern would be infection but I imagine the doctors will do what is necessary to prevent that.

Glad he is going to a surgeon though.

I was afraid to ask because dh said the urgent care dr said something about his vision.

I wonder if colloidal silver would be good in aftercare. Praying he's okay. I had some weird junk happen to my eyes before and didn't have vision issues. Not the same thing but I am optimistic for him. One was a day after trying a face mask and all the dr could conclude was that I must have gotten a chemical burn from it, but he couldn't see or do anything for me (supposedly). I think it took a couple of days but then everything felt fine.

They got home at 4 am. It was in his iris, right on the edge. ::shudder:: The dr, was able to remove it.

Hugs for you and your son.

My dh has had slivers of metal In His eye a couple of times. ( in the white) Apparently the rust is not good. He has had to have part of his eye scraped to make sure there was no rust left. He has only had metal in the surface, not imbedded though.

There was a ring of rust surrounding it so he needs a recheck or yeah, they have to remove it. Fun.

ETA: I changed pupil to iris. Duh.

If it happened at work, work should be covering the medical. Did he tell anyone at work after it happened? I know nothing about California workers' compensation, but notify the supervisor and HR immediately.

I hope his eye is okay. :grouphug:

Of course he didn't. He is the type that doesn't want to make waves. We're going to have to talk.

When Eldest was about 4 or 5 we had just moved into our current house.

He got a very small piece of rust in his eye. It could only bee seen with a magnifying glass. The hospital sent him to a specialist. The specialist had a sander. He had Eldest sit in a big chair and told him to hold very still and open wide and look up into the corner. He then taped his eye with the sander. (Meanwhile I'm freaking out in the corner, I don't even like getting eye drops).

To this day it only comes up when we are at the eye Dr. and they take one of those fancy highly magnified pictures of his eyeball. They then point out the line the sander made.

I doubt he even told the Dr where he got it.

When one of my children had an expensive ER visit from an at-home accident our insurance company hounded me for months trying to get information about anyone else they might be able to sue for payment; they threatened to terminate our coverage if we didn't send back the forms they requested with details of where and how the accident happened.

He really does need to inform his employer, it is not optional.
