rbk mama
10 yo DD is in that in between stage where she needs a thinly padded bra, but isn't developed enough to wear a women's swimsuit. The girls' sections in stores only carry swimsuits with zero padding - she needs something more. I ordered an XS women's tankini top that looked like it would work, but the pads are too big. DD tried it on and laughed "I could put a deck of cards in each of these!" LOL She has swim shorts; we're looking for a tankini type top. She wears a size 14 girls normally. Any ideas? itsheresomewhere
I picked up a tankini from Justice for DD. It has nicely lined cups. They had a few styles so you might want to go into a store to see the different linings.
busymama7
Could you layer a bikini top or sports bra style top under a top that fits her?
rbk mama
Yup, I've been considering this - just buying a sports bra and a tank top to layer over it.
rebcoola
My dd wear the regular kid bikini top as a bra under a rash guard.
Amy in NH
No help with the tankini, but we've liked the one-piece Speedo.
ElizabethB
Sports bra in similar color under swimsuit you both like. Most sports stores have a large selection of colors, you should be able to coordinate.
alisoncooks
My tween wears a sports bra under a rash guard. There really should be better clothing offerings for developing girls -- there is always someone asking about clothes for a tween...
Mergath
Does she have to have a swimsuit with padding? I have a pretty average chest- not small, not huge- and my swimsuit doesn't have any padding. It has an inner liner, so two layers of fabric, but no padding. I've never seen anyone at the beach ogling my chest trying desperately to get a glimpse of the outline of a nipple through my suit. ;)
Katy
I second speedos. You can buy them online for half the price of stores. As long as it is lined it doesn't need padding.

Especially if one side is developing faster than the other.
poppy
I picked up a tankini from Justice for DD. It has nicely lined cups. I despise Justice, but, I hear they do make good swim suits.
LMV
Do you sew? Bathing suits are actually pretty easy and so far all of our older daughters have gone through at least a season where that was the easiest option. DD12 is currently about there but she swims competitively now and we've had to work with commercial suits for meets (I am just not that talented!) so I guess she is a bit more adaptable.
Forget-Me-Not
I wish they'd make rash guards with built in shelf-bras (like the type you see in tank tops).
Hilltopmom
Lands end tankini was perfect for that stage! They go up to kid size 16.

zoobie
Oldest wore a quick-dry sports bra under a rash guard after she grew out of Justice. They go up to girls size 20 online, and they have H sizes, which is the next size up width at that size height.
TrulySusan
Another vote for Justice. They have light padding that gives that age the privacy they want. Be sure to wait for a sale!
