fairfarmhand
My kids are constantly annoying one another with singing. One dd will sing the same dumb tune over and over again. DS gets annoyed. So he makes up a song about how "Sisters smell like poop all the time. " Dd starts singing the same tune, but makes up different words "Boys can go to the moon because we don't like them." I say "Stop making up annoying words." So they go back to singing. Louder and louder to drown one another out. I say. "Okay. That's enough. Stop singing." So they start HUMMING!! GAH!!!!!
SparklyUnicorn
That happens here too.
Kerileanne99
I have a singer too...but I actually WISH she would make up some words! Instead she sings the same 5 words of songs all day long. I have a thing about repetitive noises and it just kills me! I have actually tried printing out the words of her favorite songs thinking that she just needed to learn the words-nope. She just likes the repitition😣 How is this child mine?!
Suzanne in ABQ
My brother used to do that to me when we were kids. He made up a song using the nickname he called me, and he would repeat it over and over forever until I cried. Then he'd laugh. I wish someone had made him stop.
Junie
You're not the only one. Whistling is banned in my house. Even a few notes can give me a headache. And my kids aren't allowed to make up words to a song. Sing it right, or don't sing it.
KungFuPanda
My kids tried to ban me from singing. #tonedeaf
ikslo
My son and I make up new words to songs all the time. We try to outdo each other. Now he makes up his own songs to remember history facts.:) If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! (to the tune of 12 days of Christmas, partridge in a pear tree line) And Carthage fought against Rome (then chant: In the Punic Wars!) Whenever an annoying (to me) song gets in his head, I just start singing one that will help him learn instead... Washington, Adams, Thomas Jefferson...
ErinE
Sounds like it's time for all the children to go outside!
Elfknitter.#
Bust out with Let It Go? Don't have that problem so things like trying to get them to dance or join in on Uptown Funk or songs from movies works well.
Pippen
If it were my house, every time it started up I'd be inclined to blast something that would get their attention, like Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas. Or opera.
SebastianCat
That happens at my house all the time.
RKWAcademy
I think I might prefer that to what I hear all day long. DD6 - Let it Go DS6 - hums the Imperial March from Star Wars ALL DAY LONG. And I'm the fool who taught him. I created a little Star Wars monster. My nephew did teach them some annoying Christmas songs (think Batman smells, robin laid an egg) but those have faded now.
Jenny in Florida
DS6 - hums the Imperial March from Star Wars ALL DAY LONG. And I'm the fool who taught him. I created a little Star Wars monster. My son used to like to create musical mash-ups. One of his favorites was blending the "Imperial March" into "The Hall of the Mountain King" from Peer Gynt. It was cute the first time, not so much the 475th. Of course, he still creates mash-ups. It's just that now he uses them as dance accompaniment. So, I guess it's a good thing I didn't squash his creativity, even if it did drive me crazy at the time.
Slipper
Anytime there's weirdness with singing in our house, I turn up the music loud and sing songs that make them cringe while I enthusiastically tell them how lucky they are to have such a "hip" mom. Currently my favorite song is "All about that Bass" and I belt out "I'm bringing booty back!" (If they're being particularly annoying, I throw in a few dance moves.) They scatter (especially my teenager - I'm guaranteed of good behavior when she's around her friends so I don't start singing). As a side note- I would never embarrass her by actually singing in front of her friends, the closest I've come is to tell her friends that I consider myself a "hip" mom. DD13's eye will usually twitch and she straightens up.
sassenach
This AFV video made my family laugh, because the singing sibling problem is a real thing. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L1mp21PxDb4
J-rap
Well this is a little different, but when my kids were younger and in community musicals, we'd all get songs (the ones from the musicals) stuck in our heads that we could NOT get rid of. We'd belt them out at different times during the day even though we had begun to hate them, long after the musical ended -- :). But, we couldn't seem to stop singing them. We finally put a jar in a central area, and anytime anyone was caught singing one, they had to put a quarter in the jar. Of course it was mostly for fun, but it worked! Lara in Colo
I don't ban singing altogether-- I put up with it --mostly, But I ban Christmas songs -- they sing them all year long and I can barely tolerate them during the all ready way way way tooo long Christmas season-- so, after Jan 1-- I will tar and feather anyone that attempts to sing, hum or tap a pencil to a Christmas song
Mom22ns
I used lots of limits. I used to say no whistling in the house, no singing at the table, no singing during school (which was only enforced when someone was driving everyone crazy). I sing a lot and not particularly well. I don't like discouraging it, but I will protect everyone's sanity and I will not allow singing insults either.
