  1. bathing them with simple shampoo would be fine but if you bath them with a stripping agent such as Dawn you then washed off/removed most of the Advantage that you had applied/. So yes, baths are fine with a normal shampoo.
  2. but if you are bathing the dogs in blue dawn then you washed all of or most of the advantage off of them.
  3. You still need to be checking the incision sites daily and if you notice any swelling or colored discharge you need to call and have them examined asap.
  4. I disagree with the above. Most/many pets will over indulge which is why so many end up with health issues or surgeries to correct. If you are feeding a commercially prepared diet then i would check the sodium content of the food before ever adding to it! It could be something as enjoying a taste of something on the skin as well as a behavioral issue. many dogs/cats will lick to show a sign of nausea but also nervous habits as well.
  5. because food can also "hide" things that they are looking for in the radiographs so having an empty system helps with that. Food can also mimic different findings so in order for a great proper view npo is best!
  6. Type 1 Diabetes is not related to diet. Nothing you eat will make this disease develop. Also decreasing insulin is not the goal for a Type 1 diabetic as their body does not produce it anymore and they WILL DIE without it. However, controlling her blood glucose numbers is what is keeping your mother from needing more insulin. if her blood glucose numbers were higher or she was eating higher grams of carbohydrates then she would NEED more insulin. As for the op, i would recommend you speak with your doctor and find out what they want you to do about her "pre" diabetes control. Also what type of diabetes do they think she is predisposed to? I am assumming Type 2 as you cannot stop type 1 from happening with diet.
  7. failed foster home here as well. some just have to stay, you know. We have still successfully fostered many others but sometimes you meet the right ones when you did not know you were looking ;) She is a cutie!
  8. praying and just a heads up on the toxoplasmosis. She could just as easily get it from eating contaminated food or digging in the dirt. http://www.cdc.gov/parasites/toxoplasmosis/epi.html Hopefully the info helps! :grouphug:
  9. Exactly. We only use long leads to teach tracking and recalls/comes though but i do know of people who want their dogs to explore the world and still be on a leash so these in my professional opinion are the preferred. I have assisted in too many surgeries involving flexi leads:crying:
  10. Retractable leashes can be very dangerous due to lack of control but also do to wrapping around limbs or appendages and causing damage or amputation. Long leads(they come in varying lengths from 10 ft -50 ft) are a much safer option. They can still go out and sniff and it will still be diffiluct for an owner to control the dog if they are out at the full length but have a much lesser chance of injury all around.
  11. :iagree::iagree::iagree: yes, i would call. It might not amount to anything but it will def. not hurt anything!
  12. Isis. Those eyes really do stand out and a history lesson on myths at the same time!
  13. My mother in law was accussed of staring at people the other day and my sil let them know that she is legally blind and could not actually see them to stare at anyway. So she might just have been looking. i really never think about it if someone is staring or not. If I feel bothered by it then i would ask if there was anything that i could do to help her.
  14. You would not need to move out of state but yoh would need quite a big of money to get an already trained one and then spend the time staying at the trainers so you can be trained to use thd dog. Also you could find a trainer who js willing to assist you but it is very hard work. Have you thought about a cgms?
