  1. Giving it a try does not sound like it would hurt anyone. I say go for it and if it doesn't fit your needs you do not need to return...or feel guilt aobut not returning.
  2. Well, I took another job but still will not put the children into public school. Hubby and i split the schooling. We make it work for us though. This new job that i took I took for job security and because we thought that i would really enjoy it.
  3. The lives fleas you saw are less concerning to me then the evidence of the flear dirt. That means that the life cycle has happened and there is evidence of fleas having been around longer than picking up one or two from the vet. Def. keep vacumming, wash pet bedding on hot water, keep your dog on Frontline for at least 3 months!(minimum). if you go on vacation or even away for the weekend and then come home you might start the life cycle again so keep up with the cleaning. Be careful what the groomers bathes the dog with as you could wash off the Frontline with certain shampoos.
  4. They are a protective breed so if you do not want them to growl at people coming over it is probably not the best breed for you. You can socialize them well but part of their nature is to protect and as they age/mature that can/will come out more and sometimes no matter how much you socialize.
  5. English bulldogs are a very stubborn breed so yes, if you devote the right training and keep up with the training then they are trainable. This is a lifelong thing with a EB though, not a one time class kind of training because they will decide when to ignore you so many people will stop after a class or too and then a year later their dog will not listen to comands. They are a very expensive breed to own either purchase or rescue(most have health issues from the rescues or have very bad habits), to maintain as well. Even their daily care which does not have to take long can get pricey. my parents have a rehomed 4 year old female who has very few health issues. It still takes them 4 times a day of cleaning folds and she has very few wrinkles. Drool, snoring, gas. did i mention gas!!!! oh yeah and the gas but they can be very affectionate...with their gas. In the breed you will find some that are very, very head strong and some that are sweet. Some that are very animal aggressive and others who you could take around any critter and never have a problem. Much of it has to do with the owners and how they socialize the dog but the breeders stock also has a large part in how they will act as well. Just be sure to understand that vet costs are frequent and run high for this breed on even the healthier ones, initial cost as well. They are still an excitable dog it is just harder to exercise them properly because they do not have good hot/cold weather control so the play needs to be inside. I encouraged my parents to use a lot of thinking games. Hide and seek, find something in a box or bag to help use of some of her energy. Also the size of the dogs can really vary. They run between 35lbs to 80 lbs so really be prepared for what you might get. Caring for a 80 lbs dog who collapses from heat exhaustion after a walk around the block might be difficult for you. Have fun! I love bullies!
  6. it depends on the reading of the book. We love our stories from our audible connection. They work great and are easy to understand. Most of the ones that we have listened to from libravox work well. I have a fire if that matters.
  7. I boxed for a few years as a young pre teen but just went to a friends gym, never thought about asking them anything special. I would talk to the members if you could, especially other young people. Invest in a good mouth guard!, probably head gear as well but talk to some of the gyms first and some questions might pop up for you.
  8. Give him a few months and he will grow into his guarding nature. You are doing great with socializing though and do not stop it! People still always remark on the beauty of my female, even if she decided she doesn't like the person.
  9. We def. have smaller towns, not to far from small city settings. We do have a fairly large hs population either in Broome County NY, our area(Susquehanna County PA or Scranton PA) Both secular and religious and the mixing of both We do get cool weather in 2 of the seasons but it can get hot in the summer. Lots of museums, events, camps, zoos, farms and fairs around here. I am in Susquehanna County PA and would def. recoomend it if work was not an issue for you.
  10. I am now the mother of a teenager! That is all. Feeling both proud, sad, happy and scared for the future.:w00t::001_unsure::blink::eek::thumbup:
  11. I just tell people I do not worry about it at all and smile.
  12. thanks all. I do not knit but I do sew and build with wood/metal/clay so I will just have to use my creative flair and see what i can come up with!:D I am not signed up for pintinterest so cannot look there, it only tells me to sign up.
  13. We do not have tv service and my children despise commercials and just do not get phased by the tv in general. Now we do get dvd's and shows on netflix so we are not a no tv watching family but the children will go weeks without watching anything. Except for my daughter who gets to watch Dr. Who weekly.
  14. Any great sites that you have gotten things from in the past, or made that were just too cool please share!
  15. Congrats!!!! now room for another dogue and ASD;)
  16. Sorry to hear about your rat terrier :( nope, he is a rattie! All whopping 8.4 lbs of him! He is my son's dog and my daughter is using him in 4-H this year as my son cannot until next year due to his age. His name is Pippin after my son's favorite hobbit. The dog eats just like the hobbit and is very naughty as well:001_smile:
  17. And this was my old avatar picture. OUr critters are so good about being used by us silly humans:lol:
  18. I work part time and basically work part time at the dojo we attend as well. Plus I will be starting another part time job next week. These jobs are all out of the house though so my situation is a bit different. Chores are tricky as we have a lot of pets so no chores can really be ignored. If I do not vaccumm once/twice a day I cannot stand the amount of hair. It is coat blowing season here and the small dog eats the hair:001_huh:. The biggest item I let go are normally any outside work. Hubby normally does it anyway BUT if he helps out extra inside then their is no time for him to finish and we just do not worry about it. The yard gets scooped daily but we are not sticklers about cutting the grass and so on. Find what you do not mind "forgetting" about. i only wash my curtains once a month now and I am fine with that. i vaccumm them daily though when i do the floors. We all have a set schedule and we do very well to follow it. My children know waht to do when they get up and same with hubby and myself. We do not deviate from that schedule or our whole day is off which leads to added stress. It took a bit to find the schedule that worked best but now we are pretty comfie with it.
