  1. I feel like I am missing something but I believe this is our final choice for 9th. It is what we have started anyway. English: R & S LLFTLOTR Math: Jacob's Algebra Science : Biology Miller/Levine Social Studies: AAH I & II Gov. Amercian Gov. + Original Documents Reading Lit list from this time period For. Lang : Lukeion Latin I Rolling Acres German I Computer: KidCoder,TeenCoder,Office Mavis Beacon Phys. Ed: Cardio kickboxing, HHA, T25 Art: Pastel School, Intro to Oil Painting/Acrylics Electives: Woodworking Extra : Dog 4-H, Dog training/kennel club work/Dog showing Karate, studying and teaching
  2. So after asking about my daughter doing dog training and extras involved with that, it was decided to make Dog training an extra c. For a rehash she is involved in Dog 4-H which meets weekly, numerous dog training classes per week, studying to be a dog trainer, shows other peoples dogs in confirmation,Obedience and RallyO right now. So with that thought, should I also make karate an extra c. instead of PE? She teaches class, assists with demonstrations all over the state, free classes for the community and writes for our monthly newsletter. She will still have 3 hours per week minimum of cardio kickboxing, she does Hip Hop Abs 6 days a week plus walks the dogs and we hike. She also swims, plays volleyball when we have enough people around, etc which I thought produced a well rounded PE credits. My main problem is she wants to study too many items, mainly involving well everything. I am struggling where to draw the line. She wants to continue with latin and is starting Lukein Latin but she wants to continue with German and would like to start again with ASL. She has valid reasons for all of those languages and I am struggling with how to fit everything in. I can give more details but how do you slow down the want for learning when you do not want to slow down the want for learning!!! thanks!
  3. We are doing the 2 programs together and counting that as 1/2 credit. That is the plan anyway, will have to see how things pan out though as she is only 2 chapters into the first course.
  4. My daughter is using AAH 1&2 and supplementing with the extras written up in the book. It can def. be geared for High School level if enough lit is read, discussions/papers.research is done. She does reports, write ups about important people. Def. doable as a high school course. The tests/maps are geared towards middle school grades but if you add in some essay questions easy to use for high school. She is 9th grade right now. For end of high school she will be using Paul Johnson's book
  5. Very not true. Our dogs kill many rabbits in our fence every year because the rabbits feel that the other 8 acres of unfenced property is not enough so they come into the fenced dog area. Stupid critters. For the op, you could contact a pest removal service and ask for some advice.
  6. I plan to line lit up with the history but have not yet. When I get around to it I will try to remember and share it!
  7. That is a personal choice of that particular dojo or whoever runs the classes. Tournaments are not a requirement everywhere though for advancement.
  8. She has been training and showing since she was 8 years so awhile now and will continue with it regardless of if she gets credit for it or not. So extra curricular it is then. Thanks all, Allene
  9. My daughter trains dogs for a minimum of 3 hours/week in outside classes in a variety of styles. She also uses a variety of dogs for the different classes. She also reads up on the different styles as well as participates in Dog 4-H. So, my question to you all is do I count this as an elective, extracurricular or just not mark it and count it as fun??? Again the min. of 3 hours/week is outside of the house training. That is not counting time in the house training which is much more. Thanks!
  10. No but it sounds good. let me know how your son likes it please. Allene
  11. lafebervet.com has some wonderful info and videos as well. First find out what type of birds these are. Most of the heavy dander birds WILL affect your asthma even if it did not one day. It is not quite the same as an allergy to a dog or cat most of the times. Although many people are allergic to birds. Once you find out what species they are get ready to spend money on larger cages and possibly play stands, etc. Many people keep their birds in too small of cages. Toys, they need many but can be very picky with what kinds. There are many unsafe products out there for birds also. Cleaners, most chemical cleaners will affect the breathing of avians and can potentially kill them quickly. Please research cleaners/chemicals/candles/cooking,etc. Find a vet BEFORE bringing them home. The last thing you want to do is try to find a vet for a bird after an emergency is occurring. not all vets will examine birds due to not having the proper equipment, staff or knowledge of.
  12. Thanks all, it was Paula's Archives! Will happily check out the other lists as well. We adore reading!
  13. A few years ago someone had posted a reading lit that was set up by time period. It was the list that I worked from for historical reading but now that my computer has died and we got a new one I have been trying to find this list again and have yet to be successful. So does anyone remember a premade list of historical fiction and non fiction. Thanks!
  14. Veterinary Technology, still working in the field and teaching it at a college as well now.
  15. Unless you know the parents you really do not have an idea on size. Beagles can range from 15lbs-30 lbs. Wire haired terriers can range from 12 lbs- 50 lbs depending on the type of terrier. Breed wise, beagles are hunters who follow their nose/ terriers can be very head strong and have high prey drive. What are you looking for in a puppy? What sort of activity level, training requirements, etc?
  16. right now the 9 th grade plan is: Rod and Staff English Finishing LLFTTLOTR after that Excavating English personal writing 2nd Form Latin AAH 2 then HO level 2 Modern Times PH Biology Miller/Levine then The Brain and A & P American Government Key To Percents(need to finish) then Algebra Jacobs Algebra Art History PH with some extras Music: a variety of sources Gym: karate/cardio kickboxing Dog training classes I feel like I am missing something but that is all I can think of without my list.
  17. Trifexis does nothing to control ticks or stop ticks in any way. http://www.trifexis.com/default.aspx It is a monthly heartworm, fleas and intestinal parasite control only. Something else must be used for tick control when using Trifexis.
  18. we watch Dirty Jobs and Mike Rowe always says crap so crap it is.
