  1. My child about that age is reading the Wings of Fire series, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and Percy Jackson currently, and enjoying all of them. Ella Enchanted was fun; the book is much better than the movie. That's also a good age for Little Women.
  2. I found out many years ago that all even numbered addresses are on the North or West side of the street, and all odd numbers are on the South or East. I didn't learn that growing up, but I know it holds true in my current metro area. I wonder how universal this is? I think there are exceptions (angled streets, and certain towns), which confuses the issue, but it can be helpful if it applies to the town you are in.
  3. Maybe a nice keychain? A book you think he will like ... a gift card for some car washes (not through Amazon, obviously) ... Also, whether he *needs* food or not, it makes a nice gift. Gift cards for specialty drinks, his favorite gum, peanut m&m's, fancy jerky ... whatever he likes best. It always makes my boys happy.
  4. These are both vegan* and get a thumbs up at our house. I especially like the chili because of the toppings that customize it, but it makes more work when you are feeding a crowd. https://www.tasteslovely.com/potato-white-bean-kale-vegan-soup/ https://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/quick-vegetarian-chili-with-avocado-salsa *If you don't top the chili with sour cream or cheese.

  6. Been there, done that. My unexpected baby was born when I was 44. It was a huge shock and terrible timing. She's been a joy, and I wouldn't trade her for the world! Big congratulations to you. May this end up the best surprise you've ever received.
  7. There are many vendors selling custom weighted blankets on Etsy. Maybe you could find one to make you exactly what you want. I know you can choose your own fabric with many of them.
  8. I've made it a few times. I like the recipe that comes on the Jovial box (and their website). It's not a fluffy sandwich bread at all; it's dense and chewy and it's yummy when it's toasted and buttered. I seem to be the only one in my family that likes it, so I make an occasional loaf just for myself. It's super easy to make! This is the one I've made: https://jovialfoods.com/recipes/easy-100-whole-wheat-bread/ But here's another one I've been meaning to try to compare: https://jovialfoods.com/einkorn-wheat-bread/
  9. For my son who had frequent nosebleeds, he needed to have a blood vessel cauterized. We made a visit with an ENT, the procedure was done in-office, and he has never had another nosebleed. He had never had nosebleeds as a young child; the problem arose in the teenage years and gradually got worse over several years.
  10. I have this one and have been happy with it: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MWT0N6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The difference in the two sizes is that the larger one is a bit easier (slower revolutions), but both work for exercise. You need some room all around you, especially with the larger one. Weighted is the way to go! It's a lot easier and more fun.
  11. I've ordered a box. It went very smoothly. Takes longer to arrive than Prime items -- about a week if I remember correctly. Everything is set up to make the returns easy. At the time there was a 20% discount if I kept $200 worth or more, but I'm not sure if that was a limited time offer or not.
  12. If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, we find the whole milk/full fat Greek yogurt in the blue and white container very mild. My kids prefer it with a drizzle of honey, but it's quite easy to eat plain.
  13. This is just slightly over your budget, very pretty, and comes in all the sizes you need: https://smile.amazon.com/Kivary-Bateau-Homecoming-Dresses-Emerald/dp/B01MQKGDEO/ref=sr_1_50?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1523577319&sr=1-50&nodeID=1045024&psd=1&keywords=bridesmaid+dresses&refinements=p_n_size_browse-vebin%3A2343355011%2Cp_n_size_four_browse-vebin%3A2445372011&psc=1. Reviews are generally positive, but the beading sounds a bit fragile.
  14. Our Casio Privia was in that price range brand new (on sale) and has served us well for a young/beginning student. Our didn't come with a pedal, but there are options for adding on.
  15. Felting Stained Glass designs Dog agility (there are competitions but it is competitive in a supportive sort of way in my experience. Not sure if that works for you) Search and Rescue dog training Raise a guide dog puppy Furniture refinishing/repurposing
  16. Be sure to also look at whether you are able to open the car door once you are parked. We have a three car garage, but can only park in the 2 right hand spaces, because there is no room for the driver to get out if we use the third space. Some houses are built with a wider garage, so they would be fully usable for parking.
  17. Arepas could work in place of bread in many cases. Different, but good. https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2012/04/venezuelan-style-arepas-recipe.html For a pasta replacement, shirataki noodles (aka miracle noodles) might work. There is a bit of a learning curve to working with them .... they smell bad until rinsed/heated, and have a slippery texture, but they are ZERO calories and many people like them. https://miraclenoodle.com/collections/all/products/angel-hair-pasta That's a tough combination of allergies : (
  18. You could eat as many circle shaped food items as possible in a day and work the math for each of them. Pancakes, apples cut transversely, carrot coins, a pie, etc
  19. I live in the desert and there are roses and other flowers blooming right now. I don't know where the OP lives, but eventually it will be an appropriate suggestion!
  20. Flowers picked from your yard and set in a vase An offer to run an errand for him (might count as acts of service, but if it's unexpected it can be a gift) A lipstick kiss or a heart drawn on his mirror Setting up a warm epsom salt foot soak on a night you notice he is tired
  21. Whoops, guess I didn't catch that as a child reading the books myself :crying:. Sorry about that! SaveSave
  22. You could go old school with the Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. My daughter recently finished (and loved) the Wings of Fire books mentioned above.
  23. Not common, but have heard it multiple times and used it myself a few times.
  24. I would find a good pulmonologist. I had two doctors (internal medicine and pulmonologist) misdiagnose me with asthma, and prescribe prednisone, when I actually had mycoplasma (walking) pneumonia. It does't show up on x-rays. Luckily the third doctor caught it. It took two back to back courses of Zithromycin to clear it, and then I found out through further testing that I had also developed allergies and I started hyposensitization for that. I wouldn't have done well just sticking to the first two doctors. The pred didn't help me either. Good luck!
